Hi,

Has anyone used the trails end to go take out option at the Fort and if so, is it a counter service credit under the disney dining? Also, is it worth the price of a counter service credit for the amount of food you get? We are heading to the Fort in Oct and are trying to plan our dining, Thanks for your help in advance.

I was just there and no you cannot use counter service credits at the fort anywhere.. just snack credits and table service credits!

The take-out menu is very limited at Trail's End. There is a fried chicken dinner (individual sized or family sized) and a take-out pizza option. You don't get to load up a take-out box from the buffet.

I've had the chicken take-out and it's fine but not spectacular. It's chicken, fries, and biscuit(s).

There are also some appetizers you can take out but that's about it. Trail's End is a place to get an inexpensive buffet (lunch is a good value) and like most of the food at WDW it is good but not great. The meals all over Disney, IMHO, used to be better before the dining plan "sanitized" all the menus. The staff is great, it's convenient, and if it's supper time you can always slip into the HDDR for a few minutes pretending that you can't find your seat to see part of the show!:bounce: Not that I've ever done that  .

I love the Giddyup and Go (take out Chicken). They are supposed to be adding more take out items fruit and sandwich but don't know when.

Yet another reason for FW to add a counter service option, like that offered at the Roaring Forks in the WL. You could eat your burger/salad/sandwhich in or take it out..whichever you prefered. I think a good many people opt for the dinng plan, even when staying in FW and not having a counter service option is an incoveninece. Just my opinion, but with all the renovations planned for FW ...I hope an improvement in the dining options is one of them.
While Trails End is fine....there better options out there.

And whats with closing the TO GO window at 2? i couldn't even get a sweet tea to relax on the porch with!

We were able to use counter service at the Meadows pool snack shop when it's open. They had salads, nachos, chips, fruit, desserts, and drinks.

I second that and we snacked off the leftovers for like 3 days :goodvibes

Hey Donna..welcome back! :thumbsup2 How was the trip?...You know I live through others that travel to FW...where's the trip report? We're waiting...

I also wonder with all the renovations in the works for FW.. does anyone know if there are any plans in the works to offer a real counter service location..including an area for the refillable mugs? I've only eaten at Trails End once...and it was fine. Only I wouldn't see us eating there on a repeat basis. Where as with a counter service you can grab a burger one day..and a salad the next. There just seems to be more variety, as opposed to the same daily buffet.

it was WONDERFUL! well, my husband got injured in the room pretty bad but other than THAT, it was a nice trip! spent some time at the fort just relaxing. ran in to tiggerinbama and her daughter and we chatted quite awhile. i am already homesick, back in 46 days though but not staying at the fort. we'll be staying AKLV concierge! i told my friends we must eat at trails end though!
my report is on the DVC aol boards! do you get those?
let me know if you want the pics sent over!

Sorry to hear about the hubby..hope is doing okay. No..I'm not familiar with the DVC aol board..I'll have to check into that. Would love to see the photos.

Thanks LarryJ! I lurk so much for information from the "experts" here that I forget there is an entire site of info already available.:)

*whew*!! When I read the subject line for this thread, I was thinking "Huh? Trail's End is getting gone?? Oh my!"

Thank goodness we're talking about takeout.... sheesh!

Yeah, I second the family chicken dinner. for $20, ($16 with disney dining experience card) it's a meal and a lunch for two of us... yummy!

We always get the chicken dinner to go. It is the best thing they have (in my opinion).

wow you see.. I never knew this!! I always went by the little dining plan signs and never saw any on those items so I thought that you could not use the dining plan to get them!! Thanks for the info!!

The chicken dinner take out at the marina is a family tradition for us.
