so my mil said that her sister said there were trailers to rent...that they stayed in one. Do you know what she was meaning? I'm not sure how long ago...just curious - never seen them before.

First there is a Camping forum here but they could be referring to either the permanent Fort Wilderness Cabins they have that sleep 6 or trailers/RVs that you rent from off site companies where they setup the camper for you on your campsite.

The Fort Wilderness Cabins and before them Fort Wilderness Homes have been around since I think day one.

The cabins are, essentially, glorified trailers. They're nice, of course. But they're basically trailers dressed up as cabins. :)

yes...I've seen the trailers - I was wondering if there has ever been anything else she could be meaning.

BTW - are the teepees still there? Or did I dream them?

No tee pees but the only other thing then was like I posted. They rented an RV from an outside company.

They used to be actual mobile homes, but I think now they are manufactured homes that were made to look like log cabins. We stayed in a mobile home a while ago, and it was great for our family of 5 (three little kids). Only one bathroom though.

These look very cool!

We just got back from a week. 10 people in two cabins. They were absolutely great! Cant imagine staying anywhere else. And they are priced RIGHT!

The Fort wilderness Homes were before the Cabins and were all replaced by 1999. They were leased from Fleetwood and when the lease was up they were all replaced. Currently the old Homes are in a nearby 50+ snow bird community.

The old homes were laid out somewhat like the current Cabins

We stayed in the original Fleetwood Homes on our first trip way back in the 80's. At that time they were the cheapest housing option on site. There were neither moderate resorts nor value resorts at that point. We were a family of 5 with 3 little ones, and the Home was wonderful. I actually prefer them to the current cabin decor.

1. Yea back in the day there was only the Poly, the Contemporary or Fort Wilderness. We stayed at a campsite in a pop up.

2. In what way? From pics in looks like they had a different layout. It looks like the kitchen was in the front. To me they look smaller.

I thought they used to have Airstream-type trailers long ago.

Maybe before the homes when they just opened up? :confused3

From here http://www.disneydrawingboard.com/WDW/MKArea/Fort Wilderness/FortWilderness.html

When Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground opened in 1972, there were two comfort stations and 232 campsites. In 1973, Fort Wilderness expanded by adding more campsites and 10 Airstream trailers. Also in 1973, the Wilderness Line Steam Railroad was introduced and ran through 1977.
