I have traditions tommorow, what is it like?
Is it just a class or is it participation and stuff? Its business dress so should I wear a tie?

ive never been to traditions (will be there in august) but business attire is a button down dress shirt(with button down collor or collar stays) tucked into nice dress pants, nice belt, dress shoes, and a tie (im sure you knew that but might as well be safe but def wear a tie) and make sure your not wrinkled and matching. If you got all that you look sharp and good luck at traditions.

you will take a bus there, and wait in the lobby of disney U, then they split you up into a couple groups. You sit in a room, and someone will talk to you about the history of disney, and what is expected of you as an employee. you'll watch a couple videos, and play a couple games, sort of team building type stuff. all to get your mind into the roll of a cast member.

IF YOU ARE A MALE, MAKE SURE YOU SHAVE!!! otherwise, they WILL pull out out of line, hand you a razor and make you shave in the bathroom.

oh, and you'll be there for about 6-8 hours.

Traditions is a class that serves to explain to new Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort Cast Members the legacy and history of their respective resorts, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and The Walt Disney Company and Affiliated Companies.

The concept was originally conceived when Disneyland Park opened in 1955. Walt Disney had a high level of expectations of the Employees who would be working his newest venture. They would be different from Amusement Park Employees of the day - namely friendly and well-kempt.

To this end, he recruited Van Arsdale France, a Training Consultant, who helped to found the University of Disneyland (the precursor to the modern Disney University) and develop the first Disneyland Park Employee Orientation Programme.

France realised that, in order to acheive Disney's goals, new Cast Members needed to be aware of the big picture, to know that they were doing something bigger than themselves. As such, the first new Employee Orientation Programmes focused on the idea that Disneyland Park Cast Members represented Walt Disney to the public, and that, as such, they needed to conduct themselves in a manner that would not only reflect well of them, but also of Walt Disney himself, as well as all of the Disney Organization.

However, after the untimely death of Walt Disney in 1966, and with the impending opening of the Walt Disney World Resort in 1971, it was felt that a different approach was necessary to address the new situation that the Company found itself in. As such, the idea was changed to focus on the fact that Walt had left behind a series of "Traditions" which would continue to guide the Company and it's actions despite his absence.

It is these fundamental ideas, things such as quality, attention to the details, and creating happiness and making dreams come true for our Guests and Clients, that continue to form the basis for the modern Traditions class and form the backbone of everything we do at The Walt Disney Company.

As to the dress code, all Walt Disney World Co. Cast Members attending Traditions or any other Company Class are expected to be in full compliance with the Non-Costumed Cast Member Guidelines specified in The Disney Look.

While Male Cast Members may choose to wear a tie in this instance, it is not required, and I certainly have never have worn one while attending a Company Class.

a tie is not required, but if you choose to wear one, that's ok ... My Trad class was a long time ago, I seem to remember about a 60/40 split ... with 60% of the guys in no tie, and 40% with a tie.

Tie's are hot. If you have one wear it ;]

and dear God... 6-8 hrs. Can we eat? lol

I had traditions this morning and it was only 4 hours long from 8am-12pm. We got 2 small breaks and we were able to eat in the class.

Are you allowed to bring your lunch or do they have place where you can eat there?

You really don't need to bring lunch, or eat in the cafeteria as there is a morning traditions from 8-12 then a afternoon traditions from 1:30-5:30. There were people in my class that had snacks and drinks.

What only four hours.. last time I took traditions it was a full day like 8 hours we were there. I am happy that next month when I take it again its only four hours, that's doable on only a few hours of sleep.

The CP one is now four hours - if you hire in full or part time its a full day.

How many people are there usually in each group? And also what kind of games do you play? Do you take a tour of the park as well? TIA!

I'd say about 40-50 people per group.
you sit at tables of about 5 or 6, and the games are things like "how many disney characters can your group name"

OK Next person in Traditions...tell me if there's a video with a Magical Moment in it, it's the Dino Dance in Dinoland. They told us the day they filmed it that they were updating some things for Traditions and were getting guests to sign off on waivers. I'm curious to see if it's happened yet (as a photo from that day has appeared in the CM dining facility near Dinoland and I'm in it!)
