I was looking at the dinner menu posted on Allearsnet.com and I must say that I was quite shocked. I didn't see traditional Mexican dishes, such as Burritos, Enchiladas, Chimichangas, Fajitas, etc. Are these items available?

Regards,
Scott

There are many types of Mexican food. My family is accustomed to Tex-Mex which is tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. A slightly more traditional form of that is served in Mexican resorts cities like Cancun. San Angel Inn is more Mexico City authentic cuisine thus using more elaborate combinations. Seafood, pork, soups, chicken mole while although I'm sure some love just doesn't appeal to me. Chicken with chocolate.? The tacos al carbon aren't bad but were skimpy when I ordered them. Not the place for me but everyone has different tastes and likes.

Actually the foods you mention are not traditional Mexican dishes but rather Tex- Mex American food. :goodvibes
But anyway, no, I don't believe they are available. Athough the counter service Mexican place outside has things like nachos and tacos like how we are used to. And yummy margaritas!

The lunch menu and dinner menu are different. The more "Tex-Mex" items you requested show up more on the lunch menu. You should review both menus on-line, and then make your decision on if/when to eat there. We enjoy it.

No, they don't serve Tex-Mex (American-Mexican) type foods. It's more like the food you get in Mexico. I do think they had chicken fajitas on the kids menu when we were there in Dec, but that's it of the foods you've mentioned.

The food was really very good. Our family tried all new things (to us) and liked everything we ate. :sunny:

go to www.wdwig.com and under dining click on menus in epcot and you can check out the menu. We have been twice and enjoy it, my family not being very adventurous stick to nachos and things like that. Honestly this restaurant is known for its ambience more than its food. I thought the food wasnt bad but we go for the ambience. I say its a must do atleast once..

I saw a burrito on the Kid's menu. I wish they offered those to adults.

Chicken mole is gooooooooood! It's not sweet chocolate at all....give it a try!

I agree!
There is absolutely no chocolate taste to it.
I have never had it at Disney but I will certainly try it now.
Try it!!

I agree with Rafikifan. The food at San Angel reminds me of the food we had in Mexico City -- actually very different from what we think of as Mexican in the SW United States. We found San Angel to be quite tasty and enjoyed our meal there.

From what I read in the menu, the food look very Mexican! Not tex-mex at all :cool1: ! I am from Mexico and now live in AL. I love mole and ceviche! also the carne asada con chilaquiles sound yummy and i dont even eat meat! I would try it! It is not as spicy as people think (neither hot nor spiced up). All the food that is spicy-hot comes from the salsas. I think people who eat tex-mex would think authentic mexican is a bit bland. May be i can convince my mom to make ceviche or mole... :rolleyes1
i just read the lunch menu!! I am sooo hungry now

The lunch menu at San Angel is more what we think of in America as "Mexican" strip-mall chain food (tacos and etc). The dinner menu is authentic Mexican cuisine. We ate dinner in June and they had added one combination Americanized Tex-Mex dinner to the traditional, authentic Mexican offerings.

We ordered the two house specialties and they were delicious.

OOOOH that's one of my favorite things I had when I lived in Mexico City. I actually took a day trip to Puela, where mole sauce originated. I ate Mole Poblano in Puebla.... :cloud9:
I haven't tried this restaurant for two reasons, the Cantina San Angel wasn't authentic nor was it good and my kids are picky and don't eat Mexican food. There are alot of misconceptions about Mexican food I think, even the local "authentic" restuarants that have great food cater more towards americanized tastes. If you order a "taco" in Mexico City you will be given 2 corn tortillas together with a serving of grilled beef on it-that's it. Spicy comes from sauces. Tacos al Pastor have more ingredients, like onions and cilantro, to go with the pork and corn tortillas. The chilaquiles tempted me, I had them once in Mexico City for breakfast and I loved them but haven't found similar ones in the US. I dunno maybe I'll get a chance to try San Angel Inn someday

We had dinner at San Angel during our trip in July, and it was the most disappointing meal of the trip. For desserts, we had a choice of rice pudding, vanilla ice cream, or flan. I kept thinking there had to be more.

We haven't and aren't planning on going to San Angel because a)we live in Austin and can get Mexican food whenever we want, and b)I'm sure my grandma's is better anyway.

I love the San Angel Inn soley for the atmosphere. It's a must-do every trip. I'm sceptical about this trip, though, because I am a very picky eater and the ONE item that I use to order is not on the menu anymore. It was queso fundido which was basically meat and cheese that you can roll up into a tortilla. YUM. I'm going to try to see if they can make it for me even though it isn't on the menu. It seems easy enough!
