Trading Spaces fans -- let's post

I would hide from Hilde I think she is mean. She is like an 8 year old. no one can tell her anything, She retorts with well I am the designer.... She is obnoxious. Doug sometimes does great stuff. loved the kitchen the other pm. I was very surprised he actually took imput from the homeowners, he is usually more I am the omnipotent one. Like Hilde...Hated franks Red room he ruined that furniture. I would never do this I am way to picky. However my faves are Vern, he seems to want to please the home owner and he is considerate of the people who work with him. Same holds true for Frank. I would run from all of the rest. I would scream if I saw Kia coming. That episode where she did over the sewing room into an outdoor garden. With the bed like a grave, was the tackiest thing I have ever seen in my enitre life.

Frank and Gen were my favs for al ogn time. Now I'm really lovign the things that Laurie, Vern and Doug does. My fav Gen room was the one she said was "her" style, it was the basement room that had a lodge/rustic look. I love Vern's kitchens, the tiny one inspired by the color of a pear was great.

I loove Trading Spaces but haven't been able to watch as much as I'd like this year. I'd definitely want Vern to do my room and I'd want to work with Gen, I think she's the greatest! She was doing a book signing here in the city and my dad knew but didn't tell me until a few days after. :p I still can't believe Ty's almost 40!
I got the DVD over my spring break and love it, it's really fun to watch. Don't have the book yet.

I think DOUG has MELLOWED WELL!!! I used to be scared of Doug and Hildi.. but now.. just Hildi.. that Child just wears out her welcome.

Frank and Vern LISTEN to the homeowner.. that is why I feel that most of their rooms are well received by the HO's.. VERN would be at the Top of my list
Edward... hit and miss but he has some style and seems like such a kind man.
Gen.. lately has been off the wall with some of her ugly stuff and the RUSTY PAINT LOOK HAS GOT TO GO!!
Kia.. I love to watch her, she seems fun and nice.. and I think she has some wild style but functionally.. I just am not sure... and the grave bedroom was hideous!
Doug.. Love his style and functional approach this season
Hildi... NO WAY No HOW would I let her in my home..
Laurie.. only if she promised not to bring in one can of mocha, chocolate, tan, beige, BROWN paint... I also think she does the least physical work on the room of any of the other designers.

I think the best part about Trading Spaces is that it sparks ideas for me.

Funniest reveals-oddest designs.." the Grave Room "by Kia
The "its my face" room by Hildi
The " I HATE brown room" by Laurie ( I thought it was a 70's nightmare)
The "Lime GREEN Frat house" by Doug... oh man that was ugly...
The "FLOWER POWER bathroom by Hildi.. oh geez that was the absolute worst!!
Thanks for asking.. this show is alot of fun.. my whole family enjoys watching it!

did I read somewhere that Laurie is the only actual designer on the show?

That Vern has an architechure degree and Hildie's degree is in finance???

I thought I read that here though I could be mistaken :)

Actually Laurie has a background in marketing and theatre. Doug also has a theatrical background as does Kia. Edward designed wedding dresses. Gen is a graphic artist.

I just started watching this show about 3 weeks ago and I'm already hooked! I don't think I've even seen all the designers, yet. So far, I like Vern the best and I wouldn't let Laurie anywhere near my house. Does that woman use any other colors than brown and orange?!

I just saw a room by Frank that I liked, I'd like to see some more of him. Was Doug the one who just did the Caribbean kitchen? I loved that! But the same guy did an orange bedroom and I hated it.

I don't know Kia or Hilde. I saw a room by Genevieve (I think that's her name) that I liked.

And I like the woman carpenter better than the man.

You'll know Hilde when u see her, lol. Did anyone else see that episode where she wore that wee little hat on the top of her head? Oh.. and that one with the Jungle Bedroom! It's one thing for the kids playroom or something, but a jungle as the parents bedroom!!

I'm sorry to invade your thread, I'm actually not a huge fan, but watch TS sometimes. I do know that I do NOT like Hildy! What was up with that blue plaid basement room? ICK!

Your post about Trading Spaces reminded me that I know one of the women that will be on Saturday night's 9pm show. Trading Spaces is in Orlando and the woman I know is a Disney CM.... she has short dark brown hair (boyish haircut). When I met her in February, they hadn't filmed yet, so she didn't have too much to say about it except for that it isn't too hard to get on the show.

I hope they did something Disney!

I love watching this show and wish that my parents would trade spaces with someone to add some oomph to their house. My DH and I are very particular in our tastes and very traditional. If anyone ever tried to paint our sleigh bed, I'd have to kill them. It would be a justifiable homicide, I'd think. ;)

We also have typically spent more than the allotted amount when redoing some of our rooms. I couldn't imagine buying a rug for inside the house that was made for outdoors, just because it was 27 cents per square foot, like Laurie seems to do.. alot. Plus, one of our good friends is an interior designer and an architectural engineer. She has helped us alot, and I have listened and learned from her. We recently remodelled our kitchen and I designed it on my own. I can't wait for her to come over to see everything we did. I know that she'll love it.

So, if I ever want to turn a room into a gravesite, I'll definitely look up TS. Until then, I'll live wildly through those who choose to be on the show.

Having said this... I have a room in my basement that is the only room we haven't done anything to yet. It has furniture that is borrowed or handed down from other rooms. I really wouldn't mind winning the Swiffer sweepstakes so Vern could come over with $3,000 to help me redo that room.

A theatrical background must be a big boost. Christopher Lowell has a theatrical background too.
A few years ago one of my friends took a Christopher Lowell cruise. She had a blast. As a cruise guest, they were allowed to ask for his advice on one room of their house.
She had re-done her entire house so she was generous enough to offer to let me have a room of MY house *helped*.
Too bad he was no help at all.
The room was plain and needed painting (off white walls, etc). I sent along photos, graphs, paint chips, my likes/dislikes, etc.
He obviously spent no time looking at it. He just scrawled two or three BRIEF (partial) sentences across my sheet. One said "Paint!"
Well duh.
My friend said there were only a few guests out of the whole CL cruise group he actually spent any time on at all to give suggestions.
But she still had a good time.

I like Frank because he is just so nice and listens to the people working with him. I like country but sometimes he goes a little too cutesy. Vern is great too, he seems very professional. His sketches for the carpenters are gorgeous! I think you guys are giving Laurie a bad rap. She has used some beautiful fabrics in her rooms. I like that. I love both carpenters, wish DH had some of their skills! I would never let any of the others near my house. Really, if I could pick any designer to do my house it would be Micheal from "Designing for the Sexes." But that's another thread! Right now I am most in need of some "Curb Appeal."
