*~Trading Snow & Slush For Pixie Dust~* Jan PTR - 1/17 - Photo Challenge Complete!

Day four will be our earliest morning of the trip, and it will find us at my overall favorite park.

Stitch's class has a meeting time of 7:45am! I still haven't decided if I'm going to attend with him or just drop him off; because he's a teenager he's allowed to attend by himself and is excited by that prospect but I'm not sure I want to miss it. The experience goes through Test Track and Mission Space and both components sound really cool to me, especially the NASA tie-in at Mission Space.

2000151240051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

In the end I'll probably let him have his independence because that sort of thing has been big for him lately. And the alternative for the morning isn't too shabby either...

Since we'll be at the park that early, I figure there's no reason not to book an early breakfast. Besides, getting in our princess time for the girls while Stitch is busy elsewhere sounds like a really good plan!

We've done the pre-opening breakfast at Akershus once before but the morning didn't go as planned because of a stomach bug running through the family. I didn't get to enjoy the empty park photography the way I'd hoped and Ken missed it entirely, so this would be a very welcome do-over. The food wasn't anything to write home about - we mostly ate cheese and berries from the cold buffet - but the interaction was fun and the photo package is a nice bonus, especially with a bigger group since we get two.

2702043630051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

With Stitch occupied for so much of the morning our plans are pretty loose. We'll probably hit the Character Connection, grab Soarin' FPs, maybe catch the Circle of Life film (a first for us), and spend the rest of the time in the Seas pavilion since that's Pocahontas' favorite place.

2839255090051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

The class should wrap up by 11 and the plan is to meet at Test Track. If the waits aren't too bad we'll ride both that and Mission Space while we're in the area; otherwise, we'll ride Mission Space and grab Test Track FPs for later.

From there we'll hop a boat across the lagoon to Morocco.

2923678400051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

I'm hoping we'll have time to catch Aladdin & Jasmine before lunch since we missed them last trip.

(The outdoor meet & greet just doesn't compare to the old setting, does it?)

2264801550051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

We're doing something really unusual on this day - three meals. We generally don't plan three meal days because they're too much food but knowing that we're not going to breakfast for the cuisine and that Stitch will certainly want something substantial by lunch time, I made a lunch ADR in Japan.

2355064350051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Teppan Edo is a favorite of both my kids so it was an easy choice. They love teppanyaki dining and the food is consistently good.

After lunch we'll double back through Morocco to France.

2119651370051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

My girls both love that Marie is out for meet & greets and none of us are big fans of the desserts at Teppan Edo so we might stop at Boulangerie Patisserie for a little sweet. If the Beast is out we'll stop to see him too, but if Belle is on her own we'll skip her as well as Aurora since we'll have seen them at breakfast.

Then we'll reverse direction again and make our way around the World Showcase. Along the way we'll pick up a Kimmunicator to do a mission or two. I would love to do the one in Japan!

In Morocco, I'd like to catch MoRockin and Pocahontas will certainly want a henna tattoo.

2667732000051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Back in Japan, I have to take Stitch through the anime exhibit in the gallery, and I am planning on surprising Pocahontas with a pick-a-pearl. I'll order the cage in advance so we can add it to her charm bracelet right away. Mitsukoshi is my favorite place to shop at Disney so I'll probably do a little damage to the souvenir budget too.

2420374140051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

In America, we have got to stop to see the American Adventure. I've never seen it and it is on my must-do list this time.

Italy and Germany are mostly walk-throughs. A quick stop for a glass of rosa regale in Italy and a snack credit excursion in Germany are all that's on the list unless we get one of the Kim Possible missions in those countries. If we didn't see Snow White at breakfast we'll stop in for her meet & greet as well.

China is home to another must-do - the new acrobats. We really missed the old troupe on our last trip and I'm looking forward to seeing their replacements. The girls will probably also want to meet Mulan.

2513644040051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Back in Norway I'll leave it up to the group on whether or not to ride Maelstrom. Stitch liked it the last time we rode, which was back on our last Jan trip in '08, but I'm not sure anyone will be all that interested now.

And that brings us right to where we need to be for dinner - Mexico.

2587756020051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

If we have time we'll see if Mariachi Donald is out and ride El Rio del Tiempo, but if not that can wait until after dinner.

2971555900051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Our ADR is at La Hacienda, which was without a doubt the best 1 credit meal of our last trip, and I'm really looking forward to a repeat.

After dinner we'll head over to use our Soarin' FPs and then call it a night.

2416079680051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

We'll be back later in the week on an EMH night, so we can catch Illuminations and the lower-demand attractions that we missed then.

It'll be a long day to be sure. Epcot days always are. But the girls were fine going rope drop to close on our last trip so I'm hoping they'll do okay with it again. Boo still likes to shut out the world in her stroller when she's tired so I'm pretty sure she'll be happier with stroller naps than with leaving the park. :cutie:

Day five will be another long one. It is off to Studios and Studios means rope drop, for just one reason...

2209338070051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

There are two things I want to accomplish before we split up for the morning - Toy Story Mania and Phineas & Ferb. Everyone wants to do those and early morning is the only way to do them without really long waits. I'll grab a few muffins from Starring Rolls to have breakfast while we wait for P&F. After that, we'll go our separate ways until lunch.

My brother is a thrill ride junkie so I'm sure he'll want to hit Rock N Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. DH, Stitch and Pocahontas will definitely go off in that direction as well, and I'll probably join them at least long enough to ride Tower of Terror once since I've missed it on so many of our trips for one reason or another.

2624063450051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

With those two attractions done and FPs gathered for later, they'll head to the 11:30 Indiana Jones show.

DM will take Boo off to see the Little Mermaid, Disney Junior, and meet some characters if there is time. I'll catch up with them for the 11:30 Beauty & the Beast.

2635149540051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

After the shows it will be time to meet up for lunch at 50s Prime Time.

We should be done with lunch just in time for the Ridley Pearson presentation. I'll take Pocahontas to that while DM takes Boo to do more character-hunting and all the boys head off to Lights, Motors, Action.

2523614820051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

I figure it'll be 3ish before we meet up again and decide what to do next. The Great Movie Ride, Backlot Tour, and Muppetvision are all maybes based on what everyone is most interested in and what we actually rode on our EMH evening. We should have at the very least a set of TSM and either RnR or ToT FPs to use, and I suspect Stitch will want to hit Star Tours again as well. But basically the afternoon will be very loose - time to fit in anything that got skipped in the morning and the lower-demand attractions that don't have to be done early on.

I just changed our dinner ADR for the evening. Instead of a late dinner at Boatwrights after we get back to the resort we now have a closing-time ADR at Sci-Fi. Their new menu is a vast improvement over the old dinner menu, the kids love the old movie clips, and since it was one of only two TS meals my brother & I had on our very first Disney trip I thought it would be a good fit for this one.

The park closes at 7 and dinner is at 6:50, so I don't expect we'll have an especially late night. Since the plan for the next morning is to sleep in the boys might head over to Downtown Disney for a couple of hours at Disney Quest if it isn't warm enough to swim. Otherwise we'll end the night at the pool.

Day six will be our second free morning of the trip and the plan is basically the same as on the first. What we do will depend entirely on the weather - maybe a waterpark or just swimming at the resort, or if it is cooler a morning spent at Disney Quest. And like on our first free day, we're planning a few hours at the EMH park in the evening for a little late-night fun.

This time, it'll be off to Epcot!

2972913910051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

And straight to Canada...

2931592420051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

For dinner at Le Cellier. :woohoo: We'll see how this works out, because to get the reservation I had to book us as two parties (4 & 3) but I'm interested enough in checking out the new signature menu to accept splitting up if they can't seat us together and both ADRs are for the same time. The only problem is that the kids will fight over which one gets to sit with Grandma and Uncle B!

After dinner we'll hit the last few World Showcase countries that we didn't get to on our full Epcot day. The main draw in both Canada and Britain are the bands; Off Kilter is probably my favorite Disney World musical act and I'm looking forward to seeing the new Brit tribute band for the first time. I'm not a huge Beatles fan so I like the idea of a more varied group than the old Beatles tribute act.

By now it should be getting close to time to stake out a spot for Illuminations, so we'll head over to Italy for our favorite Disney adult beverages - rosa regale for me and Peroni beer for DH - and find a place to watch the show.

With our World tour complete, we'll head back to Future World after the fireworks to hit a few things we missed on our first day.

Figment is a must-do, and he provided the inspiration for Boo's outfit for this day. Boo will almost certainly want to ride more than once because this is right up there with Small World in its pre-school appeal! We'll spend a fair bit of time playing in the post-ride area too because she loves the musical toys.

2157892780051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Captain EO is a must too, because Stitch is a total Star Wars geek and I know he'll love the vintage, pre-CGI Lucas.

2622779260051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

From there we'll head over to The Land, but not for Soarin'. I know it is DIS-sacrilege but Soarin' really isn't a huge family favorite so riding once on our first Epcot day is enough. We'll be heading to Living With The Land, which is a personal favorite of mine. I just love the greenhouses!

2454841420051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Depending on how the lines are and how everyone is feeling there are a few places we might go from there... Back to Test Track/Mission Space for a little high speed fun because TT looks like it would be fun at night, down to The Seas if the pavilion is open (it is sometimes, even though it isn't on the official EMH list; the times guide for the week will tell us because if it is open the Turtle Talk showings will be listed), over to Mexico for Boo's other favorite Epcot attraction and maybe one of those blood orange or passionfruit margaritas I've been drooling over, or maybe we'll just call it a night.

No matter when we leave, SSE is a must-do on the way out and I'd like it to be with a little time for exploring the post-ride area because that's something we kind of rushed through on both visits since the big rehab.

2990983720051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

It'll be a late night and I'm sure we'll be off to bed to get some rest before our :sad1: last day in the parks.

Loving all of your amazing photos, they look FABULOUS!! Especially love Beauty and the Beast! And yo uKNOW I want that Figment outfit...for ME!!!! :cloud9::love::cloud9:

Can't believe you're almost on your last park day! We leave in a few days so I'll have to catch up when I get back.

Thank you. :) I just love your sparkly graphics!

I had fun with that Figment outfit, it was the first hand-painted design I've done in years and I forgot how nice they come out.

Have fun!!

Before I get to the plans for our last park day I wanted to share a few Halloween pics. We had fabulous weather, relatively warm for this time of year and dry, and the kids had a blast!

I made Boo's costume as usual, and I just love how it came out. She decided she had to be a witch because that's what Minnie Mouse dressed up as in the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Halloween episode. :cutie: She did wear boots, by the way... She just doesn't like shoes so I let her do the posed pics without them since it was so warm out during the day.

2341978580051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

She even had a Mickey & friends trick-or-treat bag that I think we picked up on our first Disney trip way back in 2005 when we went to the very first MNSSHP of the season. Not the greatest pic of her or DH, but you can see the bag in this one.

2251851430051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Pocahontas' costume was my challenge this year. Somehow it always is. This time she wanted to be Elizabeth Swan, but not in simple pirate gear... it had to look like the outfit from At World's End. The final product wasn't as elaborate as the movie version, partly because I ran out of energy before painting up the sleeves, but it came out rather nice. And she had the best idea for the armor/belt - that's all done with duct tape and she and Stitch handled that part while I did the sewing on the jacket.

2026616490051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Stitch's costume was easy; he wanted to be a soldier because a neighbor has been giving him a ton of old Army stuff, including working walkie-talkies and a camo jacket. He made his weapon himself, from paper towel rolls and camo duct tape.

The whole crew together:

2230741730051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

I love years like this, where the fall is long and mild and we can cover the whole town on Halloween without anyone getting cold. The kids are drowning in candy!

Colleen you are so creative! I can sew sequins and decorate a tutu throw bits and pieces together for a costume but I never learn't to sew and I don't have a machine. I love Pocahontas' Elizabeth Swan outfit. If I had that myself I would wear it to my next fancy dress party. I usually go as Princess Leia.

I'm in awe at how you plan your days. The detail is mind boggling. I'm tempted to do the same but I know my DF wont want to come to the party. They will just want to go with the flow.

BTW I'm definitely going
over to Mexico for... one of those blood orange or passionfruit margaritas (you've) been drooling over
:thumbsup2

So to distract myself from the temptation to try to make the later dates work out, I've turned my attention to our day two plans instead.

I love being able to both start and end a trip with the Magic Kingdom, and the park hours worked out just right for doing that this time. So on our first full day in the World it will be straight for the heart of the magic!

We plan to be at the MK on this day as well - maybe we'll run into each other

I'm all caught up...I just can't get over how much you have had to change over the past months!! Glad to see that everything seems to be falling into place with the sports schedules and all. I love those Halloween costumes...love that your kids are creative too!!

What is this??????

As part of their homeschool days/opening enrollment, the YES program is hosting a seminar with the author of the Kingdom Keepers books. Pocahontas is a HUGE fan and we've read all four books in the series so she's really looking forward to it.

Cool. :) My girls are usually pretty easy to spot with their matching outfits, and I'm tossing around an idea for the stroller decorations this year that will make us REALLY easy to spot after dark.

It always thrills me when the changes start to pan out for the best, and that's where we're at right now. Our Nov dates would have had us in FL right now and going anywhere with as busy as we've been and will be for the next couple weeks would have been ridiculously stressful. And besides, the weather has been so mild this fall that I don't want to get away yet!

We might end up with another short non-Disney trip report to share over Thanksgiving break... Our high school's football team won their district title on Friday and are two wins away from going to the state championship game at Ford Field (the Detroit Lions home field). I promised Stitch that if they make it we'd go down for the game, and if we do we'll stay the night because I'm not going to drive home after a 7:30 game on Black Friday, knowing that I'll have been up since 3am.

I love that the kids are creative too. It really makes them easy to keep busy. ;) Stitch has actually asked for cardboard and duct tape for Christmas this year! :lmao:

I love the cardboard and duct tape!! I don't understand how anyone can shop on Black Friday! I used to have to work that day when I still lived in the States and was working in retail....:scared1: But you should see them all get so excited here in Ontario...:cool1: I avoid it like the plague!! But happy shopping to you!! And good luck to Stitch...it's good to see all their hard work pay off!!

I love Black Friday but we steer clear of the really crazy places like Walmart and Best Buy. We hit the craft stores and a big mall that's got a great Disney Store and a bunch of smaller brand-stores; Black Friday is fun when you're not chasing the One Big Thing that thousands of other people are looking for!

It isn't Stitch's team yet - he's only 7th grade right now. But since the high school varsity players coach the youth program in our town, the younger boys are very invested in following the high schoolers' progress and high school games are a HUGE deal in the middle school social scene. Its all very "Friday night lights" and was a bit of culture shock for me as a city girl - where I grew up, the only people who go to high school football games have kids on the team or in the marching band - but it is fun in a odd small-town way. 4000 people live in this town and attendance at playoff games is usually around 2000!

Finally... The plan for our last park day, such as it is. And it just so happens that the park hours worked out perfectly to end the trip with a bang!

2518675360051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

With the later evening at Epcot, I expect we'll sleep in a bit this morning. When we do get to the park, we'll stop to see Mickey in his new home before checking in for an early lunch at Tony's Town Square for lunch. Although it doesn't get the best reviews, Tony's made our must-try list this time around for two reasons - first, it is the only MK restaurant that we haven't yet tried, and second, Boo has been obsessed with Lady & The Tramp since our stay in the Lady building at Pop Century in March.

My plans for the rest of the day are pretty loose and will depend on how much we got done on our first MK day.

2962092680051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Haunted Mansion is a must, and doesn't it look so creepy through the winter fog? We missed the opening of the new queue by less than a week on our last trip, and Pocahontas is dying to see it (pun intended ;) ).

I'd like to see Hall of Presidents because it has been years since we saw it and I know Pocahontas would appreciate it more now. She was 4 the last time and fell asleep. :rotfl:

2943617410051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Characters will probably play a bigger part in this day, at least between lunch and dinner, and we'll likely spend a bit of time on some Fantasyland favorites as well.

It'll be a fairly short afternoon because we have dinner plans over at the Poly - an early seating at Ohana, with plenty of time to get back to the Magic Kingdom for the evening entertainment.

2751434440051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

After dinner we'll head back to the Magic Kingdom and stake out a spot for the Main Street Electrical Parade and Wishes.

2074190800051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Once the post-show exodus has eased up a bit we'll venture deeper into the park to finish up any must-dos or repeat requests.

2286753070051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

The park is open until 11 and in our experience those cooler January evenings really keep the crowds low, so I figure that will be the perfect end to the trip - staying until the park closes to get in "one last ride" on our favorites before heading back to POR for our last sleep at the World.

2933684840051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

And now all that's left is the sadness of departure day.

Actually, we never seem to be all that sad to leave. A week is long enough to be away from our dog and our home and our friends and extended family, and there's always another trip on the horizon to look forward to.

I keep departure days deliberately low-key because getting to a park and back in time for our Magical Express pickup always seems like a hassle. Since we're going to be at Port Orleans this time, we're planning on taking advantage of the proximity and boat ride to Downtown Disney to burn any leftover snack credits at the candy store and use a few meal credits for an Earl of Sandwich dinner to take with us to the airport. If it is warm enough DH, Uncle B, and the kids might stay behind to swim while DM and I go shopping.

Our Magical Express pick up should be around 3 if we fly from Detroit or 6 if we fly from Flint. I haven't made up my mind yet because the Flint airport is so much easier but the times in/out of Detroit are more convenient. Coming home we'd land in Flint at 11:30pm and have a 90min drive home, potentially in bad weather/road conditions so I think once again we'll be putting up with Detroit metro instead. :headache:

Next up, the to-do list... :scared1:

Your plans and pics always give me such great ideas. As a WDW novice I have no idea about logistics so I love reading the plans of experts :thumbsup2

Awesome, I've bought all the books for Tyler, he has yet to read them but I however have finished them all in less than 2 days each

You always have the best updates..excellent pics!!

Thanks. I've got about 3000 Disney pics on my hard drive from our trips and I'm always looking for an excuse to share them!

Your plans and pics always give me such great ideas. As a WDW novice I have no idea about logistics so I love reading the plans of experts :thumbsup2

I think that's what I love best about the DIS... Even with half a dozen trips under my belt I don't really feel like an expert, and I'm still always getting ideas from other people's reports and plans.

Awesome, I've bought all the books for Tyler, he has yet to read them but I however have finished them all in less than 2 days each

Pocahontas is my reader; her book clutter rivals mine and she's getting an iPod Touch for Christmas because she's been asking for an e-reader. She got the last two books in the series for her birthday in August and had them both finished before school started.

Rumor has it that the author took a Disney cruise a few months back as research for the 5th book, so we may see DCL in the next installment.
