I posted this in perhaps the wrong section so I'll try to make this short.

Love Disney ... of course!

I own a non-Disney vacation club in Cancun Mexico. I'm a member of RCI and we can trade just about anyplace. We go to DisneyWorld about every 3 years ... our next rtrip is NEXT MONTH! :cool1: We traded a week to stay in a beautiful non-Disney resort condo for a very low transfer fee. (Much lower cost then staying at a budget on property resort like the Pop Century.) Of course we don't have the Disney atmosphere but since the length of stay passes don't exist anymore seems to me all we miss are the extra hours. (We NEVER use Disney transportation opting for a rental car even when we stayed on property)

Long story short ... via e-mail I contacted the DVC and asked if we could trade into a Disney resort using RCI. The sent me a form letter saying they can't answer my question and i need to call them. .......... Seems like a simple question to answer to me but apparently they want me on the phone to try to sell me into the DVC. ............. Not gonna happen! ;) I plan to move to FLA in 5 years when I retire (snow bird) and don't need a second vacation club ownership..

Sooooooooo the very simple question perhaps you can answer for me is ... is there a way a person affiliated with RCI or another vacation club can trade weeks to get into a Disney Vacation Club room for a week. (I'm not talking about a private trade with a stranger to use their points, i'm talking directly through RCI and the DVC.)

Thanks in advance for your answer.

The email you sent is likely to the sales staff. DVC exchanges through II, not RCI. DVC also has an arrangement with Club Cordial and Club Intrawest. There is no way to trade in to DVC using your timeshare through II. You could try for a direct exchange with a member though I doubt any member would trade anywhere near evenly given what you've posted. DVC used to be an RCI member many years ago.

Thanks for the information ... I wish DVC would have simply told me that! ;)
I love my vacation club and because Cancun is always high season (I think if it were an actual time share it would be RED season ... what ever their most expensive block of time is) we get to trade anyplace at anytime ... on season or off season. But obviously a place like Disney, being the most popular tourist destination in the WORLD can do things their way. It's unfortunate for me because i love the Disney atmosphere ... but I'll happily go to Disney staying in an off property luxury two bedroom apartment condo for less than the price of staying a week in one room at The Pop Century. I wouldn't ask a DVC member to trade with me ... we could argue the value but there's no sense in that. ;) My weeks are only cheap for me because I'm fully paid for my vacation club. The cost to me is simply a transfer fee, I haven't calculated in the pro-rated cost of being a vacation club member. When i go to my five star home vacation club right on the ocean in Cancun the room is totally paid in advance ... and we have no upkeep fees. I wouldn't ask for a member to trade with me because I simply wouldn't feel safe (no offence to ANY DVC member) doing something like that with total strangers.

Again thank you very much for the information!! Guess I won't be staying at the DVC but I WILL be coming to Disney World on November 15th ... next month! YES!!!!!!!!!

Glad to help. I'd suggest that while Cancun us red time most of the year it is only truly peak season week 51-16 or 17 with a secondary peak mid summer. You might consider the Hilton resorts, Fountains (new water park on site), and a couple of the Marriott's trade with RCI (Cypress Harbour and at least 2 of the Marriott Palms). Don't kid yourself on the trade power of Mexico, it can be good but is never at the top but you don't need top trading power to get a great resort in places like Orlando, Gatlinburg or LV. Also, Vacation Club IS just another word for timeshare in this context. Enjoy your ownership and your trip. Though DVC members, we also own with both Interval and RCI resorts. We're staying at the Hilton Grande VC in a few weeks and I just got (this am) one of my staff a 2 BR at the Marriott Horizon's resort for next March as a gift.

So as DVC members you can "trade out" through RCI but as an RCI member I can't trade in to DVC? ... if thats true that kind of stinks! (From my prospective)

DVC members can not trade through RCI. DVC uses II as the exchange company.

I see ... thank you for clearing that up for me! .... Oh well ... I may not be able to experience the DVC without being a member but thank God I'll still experience the exact same wonderful Disney parks ... and that's why I go! I'll use my VC in warm sunny Cancun in the middle of the cold new england winter! ;)

Thanks again for all the valuable information and I'll see you DVC and forum members in the parks next month! :cool1:

As noted, DVC only uses II. I also own non DVC II resorts and non DVC RCI resorts. Have a great trip, we leave in 2 weeks.
