Hoping someone can confirm / correct my plan….

We decided today to hold off on our fall 2021 trip and head to Aulani in spring 2022. While I am beyond excited, I am also keenly aware that finding a room there in spring will take some creativity given that I do not own there.

I think my best bet would be to find someone to trade points with - do people actually do this and if so, where do I find that person? I was scanning the rental rules and it says not to use ‘in search of’. Is there an outlet I can tap into?

thanks for any advice you have!

Hey there - very interesting question! I own at Aulani. I’m not sure where you might own, but I’ve had similar thoughts on getting into some other resorts prior to the 7 month window. I don’t know all of the ins and outs of actually trading the points and how that would work. Or if say we traded points can I then use those points to book at the home resort from the original points.

i don’t have answers but am interested in how this works as well!

So, because you can only do one transfer per year, in or out, a trade would really be like a rental, where two owners make a booking for each other. Neither person would control the booking for their own trip.

It would take a LOT of trust. Because if the trips were far enough apart, one owner could take the booked trip, then cancel the booking they had made.

I also think two members can do a transfer of points on a 3-way call to MS. But since you are allowed only one trade in or out each year, one person would give their current UY points and the other person would give their next year's UY points. At least that's how I understood it from a question I had here on the boards recently, but I may still be a little confused about it all. We decided not to do the transfer so I didn't really pursue it, but I'm sure someone on here will correct me if I'm giving wrong information.

From a practical perspective, you're better off renting out your points and renting the points you want. The odds of finding someone with the exact points you need who also wants the exact points you have, all in the applicable use years, is exceedingly small.
