My family (sibs and their wives and kids) are spending next Xmas in Orlando. I've got a reservation at OKW. My sister has points in a timeshare, I think it's called Vistana.

Questions:

:earsboy: Can she trade into ANY of the DVC resorts? Or just certain ones?

:earsboy: Would she have a prayer at Xmastime?

:earsboy: I would hate to trade OUT of WDW BUT: ARe there any Vistana resorts in Orlando that are FANTASTIC? Or other resorts we could BOTH trade into?

DVC blocks other Orlando resorts from trading in to the WDW DVC resorts so no chance unless they can trade something else like Westin St. John or Atlantis. DVC doesn't deposit premier time. So I'd say the chances of getting DVC at WDW with Vistana at Xmas is zero.

Assuming she has starwood points, I'm not sure how their system works. With some points systems you can deposit other resorts and might be able to trade in at other times. With others, any deposit will reflect the home resort. She would also have to be a member of II as Vistana trades with both II and RCI.

I'm not a timeshare expert but her ability to trade is based on what type of program Vistana has in place. If they participate in Interval International then I think she could attempt to trade into Disney. I'm not sure whether or not a specific resort can be requested. My guess is that it would be extremely difficult to get a trade at Christmas. Getting a trade at any time from an outside timeshare is very tricky.

DVC does not do trades with Vistana. There are no Orlando resorts on our trade list.

Others here could give you the ins and outs of arranging timeshare trades on your own. Vistana is located sort of near to the Crossroads Shopping Center. Not bad for an offsite location but I can't imagine why you would want to trade on-site for offsite?

You can't trade out for Orlando resorts. If you want offsite, see if you can arrange a private trade, starting with your sister. Or she might be able to get multiple units at another resort that doesn't have a regional block, maybe on of the Marriott's. If she has starwood points, maybe you could trade her DVC points for the Westin St. John or Atlantis.

My intent is that we all stay at the same resort. If she can't get into a DVC resort, then I would have to try to rent at her resort. Sounds like I would probably have to pay cash. It would kill me to have to stay outside DVC in Orlando, but it would also be nice to have the family together.

Since you already have the OKW reservation, I would have your sister join TUG and try for a private trade into OKW first.
