We have a 2 Bdrm timeshare with Interval that we are trying to use to book a week at one of the Disney DVC Properties starting Nov.28, 29 or 30 for one week.

I was advised that Disney DVC members get "first dibs" on any transfers before they open up to Interval.

Any thoughts on whether we will be successful in getting something, and if so, what timeframe the weeks would open up?

TIA!

someone is pulling your leg. DVC members can NOT register with II -so II has no idea who we are.

DVC has a corporate membership to II not individual

so yes I think you have an excellent chance.

just don't expect a 2-bedroom - but you have a good chance of finding a 1-bedroom or studio

there were out on Dec 24 - probably all gone now - but go look for yourself

Dec. 20-27, 2008 (doubtful

I know these are not the times you want and those are probably weeks my traders couldn't touch.

look in Sept and May - if you find a DVC resort then but not any other months - the your trader is not good enough.

Funny, but I was told on two occasions by two different agents at Interval International, once two years ago when I tired to get a trade and once again yesterday that DVC openings are first offered to DVC members before being offered to members of Interval International, the timeshare trading company.

They didn't seem able to advise me when DVC openings would be released, i.e 11 months in advance of ressie (as with DVC home base members), or 6 months in advance (as with DVC trading members), or whether, like Interval International the bookings could be released anytime.

I have no idea how this works - I assumed that all DVC members also had the option to join Interval International in order to trade points for a vacation at a non-Disney owned property.

As as for the reference to my "trader", I have no idea what you mean by this. All I do is call Interval Internation and speak with an agent at a 1-800 number anytime I wish to do a trade. Is that what you mean by my "trader"?

What I have read on these boards indicates that it is difficult for other timeshare owners to trade into Disney Resorts any time of year. The dates you indicated start with the day after Thanksgiving Day and I think that would be almost impossible. DVC Members themselves have a difficult time getting availability and guaranteed there will be waitlists for Members for this time frame too.

That is what I thought. I figured my best shot was a check-in Sunday night (Nov.30) after the Thanksgiving crowds are leaving.

I already have a ressie at CBR but if we can get into one of the DVC 2 brdms that is our first choice.

I have our request on the system at Interval International so I guess I will wait to cancel it until our cancellation period for our CBR reservation comes up.

What they probably meant by 'first dibs' is that DVC owners have 11 month priority in booking reservations for their home resort, and 7 months for the others. This is all internal to DVC and really doesn't affect II at all. When DVC opens something up to II, it is generally available to anyone trading in via II.
What Spicey probably meant by 'traders' is the trade value of the week you own. II has internal priorities, and a low value 'trader' week may not pull a DVC week even if it's available, but a high value 'trader' week will.
DVC owners do not have an individual membership in II (unless they own some other non-DVC timeshare). They use a corporate membership, and all trading out must be done through DVC member services. DVC then takes the points from the member and makes something available to II.

What members get means nothing in this scenario. II only gets units representative of what DVC members trade out to II, usually no more than 3% of the inventory. Still, for certain times of the year, including this week, your chances are pretty good. As noted, your chances are far less for a 2 BR but not impossible. If you have a lockoff unit and can deposit two separate weeks (1 BR and studio), you will have a far better chance of being successful by trying to get a 1 BR or smaller. If not and you can make do with a 1 BR, I'd certainly make that clear to II. IF you must have a 2 BR, put in the request then at a much later date, as late as 1-2 months before your travel, you could open up to other off property options like the top Marriott's.

What resort and week are you giving to II as that will make a difference in your chance of success. Good luck, I hope it works out for you. I've traded in many times, it's not as difficult as some would like to think.

Thanks everyone for the info.

We actually have a 3 Bdrm unit but I am not sure what the "trader" value is. If truth be told, it is my MIL's timeshare that she is giving us.

Last year we traded into the Mystic Dunes (formerly Wyndham Palms) and it was great. However, for obvious reasons my first choice is Disney.

Thanks again for all the help. I think I will sit on our reservation until August and then as suggested open it up to one of the other dozen or so other acceptable timeshares in the area.

This is what I have always gathered from these boards as well. Then, my best friend who has direct access to II asked me what I thought her chances of trading into BCV would be. I totally laughed at her. Said no way....not a chance. Maybe SSR or OKW, never BCV. She had it within a week. Go figure.

Different resorts have both a trade value and resort quality score. Both are important and somewhat independent. Trade value is based on the demand of the resort, demand of the SPECIFIC week, unit size and how far out it is deposited. Knowing the specific resort and week would help me give you a better idea of your chances. Just realize a 2 BR is a long shot at best while a 1 BR is very workable and even if trading a 3 BR, that would be essentially impossible as DVC doesn't deposit that unit other than in a couple of unique circumstances.

Oh make no mistake - I never even contemplated getting a DVC 3 bdrm. Aren't they sold out for over $2000 a night????

I just have a 3 Bdrm unit to trade. And not one that sells for what probably a 2 Bdrm unit is sold by Disney for!

Thanks for posting that...allows me to keep hoping!

Just for reference, I just got an II trade into SSR 1 bedroom for the week including Halloween.

I personally didn't think my resort had much trade value (also a gift from MIL) and after paying $$$ for a 1 bed at VWL this past year, I jumped at the chance at any 1bed at DVC.
I did have pretty low requirements (any DVC/any 1bed or greater) and wide open timeframe (kids can miss a week of pre-school for Disney!!), so I'm sure that helped.

Your trade sounds much more valueable, but are limited in timeframe.
Just wanted to let you know don't give up. Also, call every so often. I got a message shortly after submitting my request that there was nothing available but I should call to check other resorts in the area. It wasn't what I wanted so I was just calling to ask for the request to stay open. In the process of the call they checked again and we lucked out.
Good Luck!
Jeff.

Thanks! I was just about to call tonite to finalize a reservation at the Mystic Dunes (where we stayed on a trade in May), but I think I have renewed hope and will hold off for now.

I think if by 5 months before our trip I still haven't secured at DVC unit (and unfortunately we will need a 2 bdrm) I will make another reservation then.

Thanks again!

I lucked out last year and was able to trade-in my 2 bdrm Interval for a 1 bdrm at Vero Beach in May. I just kept checking back every day. It wasn't a Disneyworld on-site property but it was still Disney! We had a great time!

with your MIL permission - register online. then you can see if a DVC comes up for you at all.
www.intervalworld.com
you need her II number.

remember that DVC does not do a lot of batch work to II. so the DVC unit would generally be by itself (and therefore easily missed). So check carefully.

if nothing then change your dates. Right now you are looking to see if your unit can get any DVC unit.

remember most of the places send II alot of their business. Disney does not. So they can be hard to spot.

Thanks for the tip! I will try that!

And will also keep calling every day that I remember...that is how I secured a last-minute Breakfast ressie at CRT too!

Actually the best thing it to look online by resort ID every morning starting at about 6 am and trying periodically until at least 6:45 Eastern. Just save all the ID codes in this format, SSR, DVO, DSS, BCV, DWL and put in your start date.

Actually, I'd suggest calling.

When I got mine at SSR, I checked on line first then called and they had one in the system that I couldn't see on-line. I love the ability to do the on-line search to see what is potentially available but I do not believe it is the complete list.

Jeff.

OK - I guess I am going to be both calling AND checking online - LOL!

I can tell you that I would just about be on :cloud9: if I was to get into DVC for this Trip so any time spent on this will be worth it!

Thanks again for all the tips!
