Trading Airmiles Pass for an Annual Pass

I am thinking of trading an Airmiles pass for a DVC Annual pass when I go to WDW in January. Which Airmiles pass would be the best deal in terms of use of Airmiles for the value I would get to upgrade? Any ideas/advice from those who may have already done this?

The DVC Annual Pass is $348 + tax.

A 7-day MYW ticket is $219 + tax or 2170 Air Miles

A 5-day MYW ticket is $215 + tax or 2105 Air Miles.

It really would seem that the 5-day MYW ticket is the best value to apply as an upgrade to the DVC Annual Pass. 65 Air Miles can take forever to put together, but $4 + tax is nothing.

Word of advice -- use the MYW ticket at least 1 day before upgrading to the DVC Annual Pass. This is even just a matter of entering the park with the ticket, and immediately going to Guest Relations and upgrading to the DVC Annual Pass. The value will be locked in at the WDW gate price instead of the Air Miles wholesale price.

Thanks very much! Sounds like great advice. This would not decrease the 'credit' towards the new pass would it? Does this also mean that my annual pass would be activated? I would want to use the annual passes next year.

the pass would be activated from the first time the original pass went thru a turnstile.

If you get the 5 day MYW ticket through Air Miles and use it once, then (by all recommendations I have read on the Disboards) you will have the full dollar gate value of the 5 day MYW ticket. If you upgrade to the AP prior to using the ticket then apparently you will only receive the wholesale value (i.e. the price Air Miles paid for the ticket).

Brilliant!! Could I go this route to renew my annual pass too? I actually already have a 1 day pass to apply to my renewal. Would I be able to use my 1 day pass and say a 5 day airmiles pass too?

You are not able to combine the value of more than 1 ticket to an upgrade.

Would this apply to any upgrades? We have 7 day passes from Airmiles, but want to upgrade when we get to WDW to 10 day and possibly Park Hoppers. Should we use one day first before upgrading or is it just a matter of paying the few extra dollars from 7 to 10 days and the extra $45 for Park Hoppers?

Hey there nora in winnipeg! There are quite a few Winnipeg/manitoba people on this board!

I would use the pass first, then go to upgrade. I have done this a few times now and using the pass first eliminates most hassles that may occur when upgrading. Some CM's at guest services are really knowledgeable about how this is done, others not so much. If a CM says they can't do it or the price they give you is higher than you thought it should be, politely move on to another CM.

Have a great time!
