Hey all,

I've been to Trader Sam's at the DLH a handful of times on past trips to hang and have a drink or two from time to time. However... I've never really tried the food there! We plan to stop in around lunch time after we get in from our flight. What is the best of the food options there? I've heard good things about the panko-crusted long beans... why? I'm not sure. Wouldn't be my first pick but perhaps I need these things in my life?? I dunno... but certainly open to trying new things!

As for drinks. I'm not huge into too strong of alcohol but I drink occasionally. I think I've tried the Shipwreck and Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum and some of the Skipper Sipper's (no booze). HippopotoMaiTai and stuff like that...

Is there something else (that's delicious, mind you, it must taste good and not just be a stiff drink) that I should give a try??

I tried posting photos of my favorites and I had issues with the new updated version of DIS.

Oh well, I highly recommend the wings. They were sweet and very spicy, absolutely yummy. The pork dumplings were really delicious too. I really enjoyed the Hippopotomaitai myself. We went for lunch so there was no line. Perfect.

When we went last year we really enjoyed the shipwreck nachos. In fact we are going to stop by there again this year (even though we aren't staying at the DLH) just to have them again. I liked the Hippopotomatai but there was another one we tried that I liked even better but I can't remember which one it was. I know it was blue, or had a blue layer in it? It might have been the Piranah Pool.

I liked the Pu Pu Platter. As far as drinks pretty much most things on the menu are good at TS. Some of the Skippers can make items off menu, such as a Jungle Bird so it's worth asking if they can/will.

The person behind the Enchanted Tiki Bar on facebook posted this, the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl. It is not on the menu, I plan to give it a shot when I'm there in a couple of weeks.

Kills me they got rid of the tropical slaw that used to come with the wings. Those as a combo were one of my favorite things.

The platter is good to get a sampling of things, though our favorite on the menu is probably the nachos. As for drinks, we're no help, we prefer the strong ones (I'd stay away from the Swizzle or Pago Pago at least for sure).

I thought the Piranha Pool was incredibly sweet. We got 2 to get a mug for ourselves and a friend. I could barely down the first one, even with help from my husband. He took one for the team and drank most of the 2nd one. The long beans are very good, and I think I liked the Tangaroa salad. Hippopotomaitai and TikiTikiTikiRum is good. I like the Krakatoa too. The mojito is probably mild. I think we had the La Florida too and liked it. I don't think it was too strong, but stronger than mai tai, tiki, or probably mojito.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks! If anybody else has anything to discuss or suggest... keep it coming!!

My favorite thing to order to drink when I'm with a group of people is the Uh Oa! Who doesn't want a drink that gets lit on fire before you drink it!? :rotfl2:

Hmm... I just might have to share that with my partner on our second trip to Sam's, when we sit down for dinner. I've always been curious about that... even though that drink's theme fits more in-line with WDW with its ties to the Under New Management version of the Tiki Room. Not to mention the Uh-Oa animatronic up near the ceiling. Could also save that to try on our WDW trip in 2021...

The Piranha Pool seems like one I may try if I just order for myself.

Decisions, decisions...

HippopotoMaiTai is my go to drink.
