Trader Sam's, under 21's, and special glasses?

Hi everyone,

My daughter (17) and I are heading to Disneyland in October. We have heard so much about the experience of Trader Sam's at the Disneyland Hotel; we think that we would like to go for a snack and non-alcoholic drinks. But we need some advice.

I have read that under 21's are okay until 8pm (that's fine, we were thinking of lunch). Has anyone taken their older teen there?

Also, which non-alcoholic drinks are the best? Can we get the specialty drinks without the alcohol?

And one last question: Do the drinks come with any interesting take home items (like cups or ice cubes)?

Thank you,
AussieCaribou

OP, I can't answer your questions, but wanted to thank you for posting. DD and I are going next month. I thought Trader Sam's looked interesting, but assumed we couldn't go because DD is under 21. Kind of excited we might be able to do it after all!

Immantini, you most definitely can take those under 21 to Trader Sam's. From the Disneyland website: 'Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar welcomes children until 8:00 PM but is restricted to Guests 21 and over thereafter.' So, go and enjoy! And then you will be able to answer my questions. lol

There are usually at least one or two non-alcoholic drinks available in special tiki-style mugs which you can purchase with a drink (and most you can purchase without the souvenir mug/glass as well.) They have the light up ice cubes for the Krakatoa punch and the servers have always seemed willing to toss one in a different drink even if it isn't specifically noted in the menu. Totally fun place for a teen or anyone else with or without alcohol...read all the stuff on the walls...there are letters from Jungle Cruise skippers and Indiana Jones, and look for the glass jug labeled "Paradise Falls" from the movie "Up" on one of the shelves. A fair amount of the soundtrack is authentic tiki music from the 40's and 50's. Just watching the "show" that accompanies the order of certain drinks is fun even if you aren't drinking it yourself! Someone is bound to get the Uh-Oah, prompting the whole place to start chanting, accompanied by lightning and thunder, and the presentation of a shareable drink on fire! Enjoy!

Thank you so much for asking this. DH and I would love to check out Trader Sam's but we'll have our three DDs with us (all under 21). Now maybe we'll try to fit it into our plans for arrival day.

I took my 18 year old daughter there last time we went and we all had a blast. The food there is delicious, but kind of expensive. They did have non alcoholic beverages there and my daughter enjoyed the drink she chose. If you like the whole jungle cruise theme you'll love the decor in here.
