What time of the year? I was there in May (Memorial Day weekend) and all of the tables inside the bar were full. There really isn't any host/hostess for the inside area (that we saw) so it was first come, first serve. There really aren't that many tables inside the bar area. We were hungry and we didn't want to wait (no one looked like they were getting close to the end of their food/drinks), so we headed over to Tangaroa Terrace instead.

I go to Trader Sams quite frequently and have never had to wait in the afternoon (actually Shaun & Craig from the podcast gave us their table on my last visit). With 5 it will be more difficult to get a table but you should still be able to find seating at the bar.

Like Figment said, there aren't many tables and there's no line. You stick your head in, see if there's a spot and if there isn't you can just hang around outside and wait for someone to leave, sit outside, or go somewhere else. It's very small. I don't remember the tables being very big either so you'll probably need to drag a chair over from another table to have room for 5.

Anyone know what time they open for lunch? I don't see the hours on the DL site.

There are only 4 tables that seat 4, and at 3 of them it would be difficult to add a chair. I can't say I've ever seen them do it inside. Your best chance is to get there when they open, which I think is 11am.
