Hi everyone

Tried to search the forms for this info...but I get an error message saying this function is not supported. Weird

Anyhoooo

Wondering if any locals apor trader Sam regulars can answer this for us.
We plain on visiting the grotto on our day at Wdw between Dcl cruises.

Really want to buy the souviner mugs and other items...but here the issues....

I'm allergic to alcohol and all the drinks that come with the souviner mugs are alcoholic versions.
We read way back when the grotto opened that they were not allowing anyone to just purchase the souviner items. You must buy them with the drinks

Wondering if this is still true or not
Or, if I can speak to the grotto cast members and explain my allergy and if they would make a virign version. Or, if we can buy the mugs alone.

Don't really mind too much if we still have to pay the price with the alcohol drink
But simply get the cast member not to make the drink
Bit of a waste I know...but might be the only way???

Though if that's the case might do some pixedust and simply give the alcoholic drink to another party whilst keeping the souvenir mug. But I think most people want the mug as wel
But then again turning down a free drink might be hard to do

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh ps
We do see eBay has all of these items
But living in Australia the postage from the USA is crazy expensive now. and these type of items usually arrive damaged no matter how well they are packed.

We sat on the outside patio of Sam's last night. When you pay your bill they provide a receipt that you take to the Sam's cashier who gives you new mugs in a box. Worse case you could just buy the drinks and just not drink them. Pay for the drinks get your receipt and get your mugs.

We were just there. We did buy the drink and wanted the souvenir glass, but when we were done they just handed a receipt and we picked up a brand new glass on the way out. It was already in a box and ready to go, so I would guess you don't really need to drink the drink. Good luck! It's such a fun place to go!

Thank you!

That makes sense that they give you a new one all wrapped up on your way out.

Not to highjack this thread but how were the wait times to get in? Will be spending a couple of days at the Poly from Feb. 23-26 and would like to be able to have a drink at Trader Sam's but have heard some long wait times. Trying to plan.

I have worked many lounges and can't imagine them turning down a request for a "virgin" version. Clearly the one they light on fire won't work as it's the alcohol that burns, but I can't see them saying no! Any actual experiences about this?

I've read on other posts on here they won't make Virgin cocktails in the themed glasses as it can then look like a minor is drinking alcohol and that makes it hard for servers to check if minors are drinking alcohol.

But if you are ID'd as an adult I don't see the problem? We need a CM's view??

From what I understand there are no alterations or substitutions available for the drinks served in souvenir glasses.

I do not know if things are different when they are asked to accommodate an allergy.

I couldn't see them even trying to make a virgin specialty drink at Trader Sam's. The flavor appears to be all in the alcohol, not added in natural fruit.

I haven't tried it at Disney World but at Disneyland they would not let me buy the virgin version in one of the souvenir glasses. They basically said my option was the tiki and that was it. The glass comes with the drink and so I guess that is part of the whole process. I think if they started allowing substitutes they would see too many people ordering this glass with that filling and it would get to be too much.

There aren't any substitutions for allergies. I have an allergy to Rum and was shown the 2 options they had not made with Rum. Neither came in a souvenir glass.

It is my understanding that you could get the drink and not want the glass, but that it would still cost the same. So just reverse that and toss the drink out, it is still the same price either way. If that makes any sense...and yeah, it is a waste of alcohol but if they can't sell it any other way I guess that is what you gotta do.

They charged us less in DL when they were out of the glass that our drink came in. Not sure if that was only because they were out or because at DL the glass you keep is the one you are served in.

I'm betting you could find a patron who would be happy to consume the drink for you, maybe even toss a couple of bucks your way. It's a chummy kind of spot. :earsboy:

no worries.....

we are also wondering what the wait times are like. We will be there Dec 19 2015 (it's really the only thing we have planned to do) since we are killing a day between cruises.

are they still stamping peoples hands that arrive early (so you don't have to wait outside prior to doors open)?

we booked a room at the Poly...thought that might help our chances of getting "in". Since we would not have to worry about traveling to/from the Grotto

any tips/strategies would be greatly appreciated
since we have not been to the Grotto before...we want to sit inside and get the full experience

This must be their policy

as everything we read 'they will not make virgin cocktails with the souvenir glasses'

we have also tried years ago at DL Trader Sam's and were told no.

so we just bought the drink as per normal and pixedusted a nice couple with the actual alcoholic drink. As we don't mind having to pay the normal price..but at least the drink does not go to waste.

I too was refused one of the cocktails as a Virgin in trader Sams in DL :( bummer for those of us who can't drink but wanna partake in the fun
