Anyone know what the process is for getting the Christmas Tiki mug at Trader Sams? I'm heading in this weekend and can squeeze in a few minutes to grab one when they open at 4pm. I read something about needing a wrist band on tikiman's site? Is there a line for these at opening or should I hope they're just available? Or is this too much of a hassle for NYE weekend?! :)

when I did this in the past, they sold a fixed number of mugs each day until they ran out. The procedure was to get in line before opening and about an hour to a half hour before, they issued wristbands until they had wristbanded as many people as they had mugs to sell that day. Each wristbanded guest could purchase one mug and you had to enter and buy the mug plus drink. I got two drinks because I was sitting next to somebody who only wanted the mug, not the drink, but it's required to buy the drink.

I would think showing up at 4 is too late. Having done this once, I likely would suggest arriving no later than 2:30.

Thanks - I'll have to play this one by ear then. My flight gets in at 1 on Sat when I was going to try to do it - but I've got "openings" around that timeframe each day of my trip.

While I'm sure things have changed since we were there last Friday, but they had just gotten in the Christmas mug for this year with the brown elephant wearing the Santa hat and our server said she had yet to sell one all day. We sat there having drinks for several hours and didn't see a single one get ordered. They were also selling them athe Tiki Terrance, which opens up about 30 min earlier...so you might try there first (they also hadn't sold any while we were there).

I don't think there is the demand for the Grog Grotto Christmas Mug (the brown elephants) that there was for the Halloween Mug (the red Hitch Hiking Ghosts). They say that it is limited to one per person, but from what I understand, there aren't the lines to get wristbands before they open. I've heard you can just get them at the bar.

Thanks! Hopefully I can bounce in at 4 and grab one.

Now if I can just get outta the frozen tundra on time! :)
