I Have been keeping tabs on the on going construction at The Polynesian Resort at WDW. If you haven't heard what is going on the Poly is going under what seems to be a massive renovation this year and will be completed sometime in 2015. 20 DVC bungalows are going up around where sunset pointe used to be. Disney is also converting other rooms to DVC rooms. Right now all walkways to the longhouses are getting redone. The GCH is going to go under a massive renovation starting in April which will get rid of the large water feature, rumors are there will be a water feature in the new GCH, but will not be as large. The Volcano pool is also going to get a lot of work, supposedly the pool will lose its volcano but will keep the slide and they will be adding a hot tub. Captain cooks is currently under renovation and is getting a temporary location in the lobby while its getting worked on. The parking lot is getting redone right now also and they are very strict with only letting guests who have dining reservations and hotel reservations park in the lot. A lot is still rumored about this on going project and one of those things is Trader Sams.

Trader Sams is a restaurant/bar that is at DTD in Disneyland and it looks to be that it may be coming to the Poly nothing has been confirmed for sure but Tikimans sources say it is coming. Tikiman has a website and Facebook page that is updated regularly on all things Poly. If you want info on what going on that is the guy to go to. He has a full timeline of events and I will link to that below. For the next year or two the Poly is going to be a mess with construction.

I really hope that it is coming. Like I am wishing on stars and believing with all my heart that it will come true. =)

Great post - we're staying at the Poly this June despite the construction.

Just a small note - Trader Sam's is at the Disneyland Hotel, not Downtown Disney, although everything is so close at DL that it might as well be. Definitely stop by and order a Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum.

Oh thanks for clarifying I know that everything is right next to each other at DLR so I thought it was at DTD.

Hate to hear about the construction. I'll miss the old Polynesian I grew up around. But, I always try to make myself look for the best in change, as it always frustrates me when people are afraid of change just because it's change.

So, I'm confident it will be better. The lobby really was not keeping up with the crowds, as beautiful as it was.

Since DW and I are newlyweds and can't freeload to Disney off my parents anymore, we can't afford Poly anymore, anyway. I do hate that we won't be able to do our usual trip to Poly from our resort for a breakfast or late dinner from Captain Cook's outside. I really wonder how they're going to make Captain Cook's work in the lobby.

Captain cooks is in the lobby temporarily right now and it's part in the lobby and then they have also converted the CM cafe room as part of it for more space. No dole whips are available at this temporary location.

Say it aint so!!

Any ideas on when the dole whips will be back?

Ahh ok- if tikiman's sources are correct- it looks like summer of 2014, if nothing slides.. Thanks!

I would say that's why there is no definite date for opening. The GCH construction has been pushed back quite a bit and something changes at the poly everyday. It will be a very different hotel when all is said and done.

It looks like trader sams is still on the schedule and will open next February according to the tikiman. It will be located next to captain cooks by the outdoor patio area.

According to the newest tikiman update trader sams will be going in where the arcade used to be!

I just went to Trader Sam's at the DH last week for the first time. Wow.

If they're building one in WDW then are you guys ever in luck. Get to know which drinks do what. If you don't know what I mean by that, then I won't ruin the surprise. You won't have to be in there more than 15 minutes before someone orders a drink that does SOMETHING.

You all are in for a treat with Trader Sam's! One of my favorite places in DL and it's a must-do for every trip!

I would love Trader Sam's to come to WDW. :thumbsup2
They need another venue that is separated from Ohana.

Has anyone noticed that in the concept drawings for Trader Sams at the poly seems to have a 20,000 leagues under the sea theme. There is the octopus arm extending out of the wall. The drawing shows on the back bar helmet with a ship inside like the bottle with the ship inside at Disneyland. The two kids sitting at the bar are drinking out of A Nautilus collectible drink cup. Also the bartender is retrieving what looks to be a new drink served in Pearl from a giant oyster.
