Can a person trade a valid MYW pass toward a new AP and pay the difference for the AP?

Thank you.

Yes and no. It depends on when you do the transaction. If it's prior to or within 14 days of first use of the MYW ticket, then yes. If it's after 14 days (even with the no expiration option purchased), then the answer is no to the question as you phrased it.

After 14 days, you can apply the remaining dollar value of the used MYW ticket with no expiration towards a new AP but you cannot get full credit for what you paid for the ticket. THat means you will pay more than just the price difference between the AP and the original MYW ticket.

There's another catch too. The new AP will expire 366 days after the date the cashed-in MYW ticket was first used rather than the day on which the new AP is purchased or first used. Maybe that's obvious, but I thought I'd bring it up.

So let me get this straight... If we buy a package with an eight day ticket included and we use the first three days then decide to get an annual pass will the entire cost of the tickets go toward the AP?? Also, how will this affect the dining plan if at all?

Thanks to the OP for posting... I was just pondering this same exact question!

Only if you trade the ticket in within the 14-day window.

If you have a ticket that is partly-used, and you hold on to it for 13 months, you can still use it for dollar credit toward purchase of a new AP and the new AP will be good for 365 days from the date you activate it.

How do they figure how much credit to give you. Do they go by what you paid or current pass rates?

And if the MYW pass that you are using has Magic Plus options on it, you will only be permitted to upgrade to a PAP, not a regular AP.

If you purchased the tickets from an outside vendor, they may not be "worth" what you paid for it. When you upgrade the ticket to an AP, they only use the value disney was paid for the ticket.

Random Example: Disney sells a ticket to "Joe Bob's Ticket Outlet" for $10. Joe Bob's Outlet sells the same ticket for $12. You want to upgrade the ticket to a $50 annual pass - but to Disney, the ticket is only worth $10. Thus, to upgrade, you would owe Disney $40.

Here's my question. For our upcoming trip, me, DH and DD5 have a MYW package with dining and 10-day, non-expiring park passes. Would it be possible for only me to upgrade my ticket to an AP or PAP (DH and DD would not upgrade theirs)?

It's based on what DIsney actually recieved for the pass, not what they're going for now.

That means that tickets from a vendor like TicketMania or Maple Leaf would not be worth what you paid for them, but what the vendor paid Disney for them (vendors buy tickets in huge blocks at a discount, which is why they can sell them cheaper than Disney does).

Exactly.

Vendors buy tickets in bulk ( hundreds at a time ). They generally get a 15-20% discount off the tickets. They pass some of that savings onto you. They make money, and you save a couple bucks off the "gate" price of the tickets.

To disney though, those tickets are only worth the "true" value of the ticket, not the "gate value"
