Trade in Pal Mickey?

I read some where that you can trade in "old" pal Mickey for a new one?? Is this true? What is the cost to "upgrade"? If so, where do you do this?? Would love any new info! TIA!

I had an old one and it was not working properly, so I went to one of the stores at AK and they tried to fix it. Told me to come back in an hour, apparently they could not, so they gave me a new one. So I got a free upgrade.

Hope that yours does not work when you go...LOL

We got ours in 2003. What is different in the newer models? Will the old ones still download the park info when you go through the gates?

Even though I would love to get a new Pal Mickey I could never part with our old one- we love him!! He's been with us on every trip. It would just be too sad to trade him in.

Our Pal Mickey was "crazy". This was before the new models came out. We were in the photo shop at MGM and were fixing to get a BRAND NEW one. The kid had a total meltdown--she's senitmental and did not want to part with the nasty, dirty, crazy Mickey! So--They worked on him for awhile and he worked better after that. I could have killed the kid!

On our last trip in Dec, we were in a shop at BW and the lady asked if we had him updated lately. I said , um no - what do you mean? She told me to take him to the pal mickey store on Main St at the MK, so that is what we did the next day. They stuck Mickey's nose in some gizmo to update his chip. I'm not sure exactly what was updated, but they said he would receive more information in the parks. Our Mickey is about 2 years old.

Pal Mickey is a stuffed Mickey that has a computer chip in him. He will tell jokes and play games, but the best part is that he will tell you about things happening in the theme parks. As you walk by a certain area, he picks up a signal and tells you something about it.

When he starts to vibrate, you squeeze him and he talks. For instance, he might tell you that they are about to start a particular show.

He cost $69.23 with tax.

One more question.
I heard that the new Mickey is supposed to interact with a gold celebration pin or signs in the parks. Is this true?

I believe it is trur that the new Pal Mickey will interact with the gold pins. Any store in WDW that sells Pal Mickey has the ability of updating them.

That said I happened to spot an older version at the POP store back in Oct2005 and questioned the CM about why they had hidden an older Pal in the display. He told me that you could "trade in" your older one for the new one but I don't recall the price.

The new HCOE (Happiest Celebration on Earth)Pal Mickey DOES interact with the pin, sorry the exact name is escaping me. I don't have one and I think that if I were to press the hand with the metal icon (unremovable and annoying to me) it will make the pin light up. They had those pins for the 100th I think too. But they do interact.

The new Mickey can't be updated at a store. As he enters a park that "update" is really only telling him which park he has entered and then the signals thru that park tells him what he needs to say from what he was already preprogramed to say. Old Pals can not say what the new one does like singing or about Soarin'. By the way the HCOE Singing is just too cute!!!! I love that and wish I could get him to do it when I want him to but he only does on his terms They both play games and do tell some same jokes.

Also, they are now selling 4 outfits (FINALLY!) but I was last there over Marathon Weekend so I don't know how widely they are available now. When we were there they were just being released and only in a few stores. They have the traditional yellow poncho, a pin trading vest, safari outfit and mickey mouse fan club set. Cute They've been spotted on eBay if you want to see pics before buying them, sadly I haven't loaded pics of ours to their site yet.

I had to laugh about the little one who had the meltdown. That would have been me at that age, heck that would have been me Sept 2004 when my original Pal freaked out, found out he only needed batteries

Our two are here to stay. They are part of the family as they are so woven into our trips and daily life (they are not-so-hidden mickey's in photos at home for birthdays and post-race celebrations).

My Mom has a set too, back in Oc2005 her new HCOE on his 1st visit to the parks wouldn't work. I think she said she went thru 2 or 3 new HCOE's before getting one that worked. It appears there were some bugs (tech bugs not real!) So they can't be updated with info, either they work or they don't. She's not the only one I've talked to that has gone thru this, not saying they are still having troubles but they can NOT update them. The original ones used to be sent signals at some stores like when mine freaked out in AK. They changed his batteries for me (because I didn't know that was why he freaked) and then put his nose in a box that told him he was in the AK told me to go to one of Tough to be Bug entrance and the signal there should get him to talk and it did. But from what I've been told over and over from CMs is the new HCOE can not do this and that it's even possible the ability to do this for the older ones might be gone as they might have removed the boxes.

Just a note. Disney is out of the pin that interacts with Pal Mickey and lights up. I tried to get one a week ago and was told there are no more and they would not be getting any more.
