Does anyone have any suggestions about Trade Assistant?
I get at least 4 trades every day, most from the same person. And most of the trades are really not fair in value. I know the person making the trade does not know what is being offered, but it gets so frustrating reading all that mail.
I am just finally getting myself clear of the mail from these boards. I blocked the e-mail from the webmaster but after I had posted on many topics.
Is there a way to block trade assistant? I have gotten to the point now that I don't reply to trade offers because there are so many and they are so unfair. Peggie

You know, Peggie, I think it is very limiting when you don't even know where your requests go!
I think that if we could at least read a screen name that we could recognize, then it would be easier to "click off" a request.

The matches often turn out to be uneven. That is surely the reason why so many are ignored. Weren't they working on improving those areas? I am sure it will be an awesome tool when completed!

I can see how a person looking for a trade could send a request endlessly, hoping it goes to someone different sometime.

So, here's my two cents: Allow potential traders' names to be read, allow the chance to click off names and/or rejected offers, and match LEs with LEs, racks with racks, CMs with CMs and so forth.

Finally, anyone able and available, offer support and assistance to those volunteering on improving these areas.

As of April 1, 2001 A new checkbox on the trades/wants management screen allows you to specify whether or not you want to receive Trade Requests from the Trade Assistant. This provides a means to permanently or temporarily stop those pesky Trade Request e-mails while still maintaining a set of trades and wants.

I still do like to get the offers anyway, In June sometime our Lord of the Picsies, Britt will revamp Pinpics and he is taking suggestions. I have asked that the TA offer the traders board user name, so I may peruse their haves and come up with a more equitable trade, now that I know they have something I want.

that many will disagree with but they are mine none the else. Here is goes.
I love and hate trade assistant. I love it because it helps me find people who supposedly have the pins I want. Cool I think, they want what I have, I want what they have. Then, two things usually happen: 1. I get no responses to my emails or 2. I find that I have made an unfair offer. Okay, to the first, I try resending every now and then to see if maybe they didn't get the message or something. That appears to make me one of the pesky repeat mailers. Of course, I am also one of those bad people who appears to make unfair offers. Gee, you see I am still new at this and think most offers are fair, I have one you wanted and I want to trade. I do try to think as fair as possible, but this is after all one of my main sources of trading. I am not likely to find someone to trade with at a meet and quite frankly I believe that if I were to offer some of those same trades in person, people would be more willing to trade.
I think part of the trade assistant problem is not knowing the other person. So, like I said I love/hate trade assistant. A simple no thanks goes a long way or do use the check that says you don't want to be listed. Works for me.

I am also someone who loves & hates TA. But will not click it off. I do like the idea of sending boards names with the request. I do go searching email addresses to find lists alot of times. Having names would make that easier.

Duckfan - don't feel bad about making lopsided offers, I still do myself. I never get offened if I am the reciepient and have never been chided for being the sender. Usually I get a polite second email revamping the offer.

I have made some great trades with TA and hope to keep on making more.

Most of you know how by now how discouraged I was with trade assistance. I too thought wow....I have a pin they want....They have a pin I want....Sounds good. However, I sent over 25 trade assistant requests and no responses. (sorry if I was one of those that sent you all a bunch of responses) I have decided it is easier to post trade wants here and just use pinpics for references.

I really like the trading assistant. Sure I get one sided trade offers and have even requested some on there but so what. My delete button on my email works and if I don't want the request I just respond with a no thank you and delete it and it is gone. If I get a bunch from the same person I respond once and then delete the others. I have made so many trades thru the system that I think overall it is great. Trading on this board is nice but you have to admitt that pinpics has a larger audience and therefore more chances of you making a trade.
If you want to make the system work better use it better. When you have a pin to trade and trade options show up only click off ones you feel are fair. If you feel rack for rack and LE for LE go that way. Older for older whatever you feel is fair.
Still some will not agree with that but adding the names of everyone who has the pin you want will take it even longer for you to make a trade. Then you will have to research all of their pinpics lists and make them offers that may still be just as unfair as the others. Honestly, would you offer a different pin just because you knew a person from a chat board. I would hope not. A fair trade is a fair trade. Both traders are happy = a fair trade.
I am just tired of people knocking the trade assistant. I think it works great and sure it is not perfect but neither are any of us. And what we feel is a fair trade someone else may not. But if you offer a pin trade to several people, even the same exact trade one may accept it and the other will not. It is all depending on who has what and who wants what
This hobby is supposed to be fun. Lets have fun. Try to make trades and when they don't work out so be it. Another trade will happen or you may not get a pin you want and life will still go on.

There are good things and bad things about the Trade Assistant. Good = I have made so many trades from it that I would not have made otherwise because it puts me in touch with people who are not on the DIS or DizPins or wherever. Bad = getting uneven requests. But you know what, there is a delete option on all e-mail programs and sites for a reason. For deleting e-mail. So use it. If the trade is obviously uneven, you don't have to reply. No one is making you. So delete it. The other person more than likely knew it was uneven, or was just being careless. If you didn't get a reply from a trade request you sent out, then maybe it was uneven and the person didn't feel like replying to it since it was uneven. I do not reply to a request to trade a common for a low LE. I do not reply to a request for a brand new common for something really old and sought after. Sorry but I don't have the time for petty stuff like that.

All in all I love the trade assistant, I think it's wonderful, but there is good and bad in everything and I can think of a million things worse than getting a few e-mails every day to delete. If you don't like the trade assistant then check the box to exclude yourself, and trade with folks you know. That should solve everything.

I just want to say that I like the way trade assistant works and don't want the pinpics people to get rid of it by any means. I think it works great myself. Love DIZ and Pinpics too, they are great assets.

I look forward to the upcoming improvements in PinPics. But, for now, I will continue to use the system as is.

In the beginning, I was discourteous and did not respond to all requests. I'm sure I sent out many inequitable requests. Now, I take care to choose my trade requests carefully and meticulously answer all my incoming requests, even if the answer may be "no."

I have followed Dom's suggestion several times, and instead of saying "no" outright, tried to find a workable trade.

While the number of responses per inquiries is low, and the number of successful trades even lower than that, I still think it's better than nothing. Trading on the DIS board is fun, but with pinpics it broadens the potential audience.

And, most important, each successful trade has planted the seed of a new pintrading friendship. And that, is what it's all about! :D

Peoplemover-I respectfully disagree with your comment about uneven trade offers. I am very new to serious pin trading and I am not aware of what might be fair for trading. And If I would make an unfair offer I would love for someone to tell me so I can learn more about it. I know the rack for rack and LE for LE. But some pins mean more to some people then others. I know That I have actually trade a LE for a rack pin that I couldn't get (from Disneyland). For us newbies I wish there was an easier way to use the Trade assist. Not getting a response and thinking....Wow they just deleted me....well the ego gets alittle hurt:p
I love these boards because they do help. And pinpics is great (Thanks for all the work that goes into it) But if anyone does hear from me for an offer......I hope you will let me know if it is an unfair offer!!!:)

I like it. I am sure that I am also one of those people who makes unfair requests. However, since I cannot match up the pins I have with the pins I want, I have to use what the trade request matches. I look at the list sometimes and think "no way" will someone trade a Mickey for President for my Disney Store pin, but that is what will show up on the list. I do try to avoid what I feel is really uneven trades if at all possible.

I receive many requests in a given day and I always try to at least respond with a no thanks but thanks for asking. Also, if I see the same request for the same person I will try to contact them to see what we can work out. This has worked out well for me and hopefully for the other person.

As of late I have tried to only acquire one or two pins at a time. For every pin that I have for trade, I will only check the one pin that I am after and hopefully the other person will see that I have many pins that I would be willing to trade and hopefully understand that I would trade multiples. I do wish there would be a box we could check that would say "willing to trade multiples".

I do apologize to anyone if I have sent unfair request, but then again, I don't know who gets what request. Some also have not updated their list even after they receive requests for a pin they no longer have so they continue getting the request.

I don't understand if anyone gets angry with unfair requests. I think we all know that we don't have a lot of control over the matches. There is a delete button on your e-mail and it works really well if you use it. The trade assistant is only a tool to help us make trades, it is not perfect, but then again, what is. I have to at least give credit for someone trying to make a trade, even though it may be unfair. At least they try and the worst thing that will happen is that the other person will say no. This is after all a hobby that we are supposed to have fun with.

Finally, I have made many offers for common pins and have offered LE in trade and still have been turned down. So it does go both ways. Some of the pins from DCA are open stock but for some reason, I can't seem to make a trade even though I offer LE or hard to find pins. Go figure.

I will continue to use the trade assistant. I applaud all the people who work on it, it is a tough job and I really appreciate the effort and time that it takes to maintain it.
