Tractor trailer parked in front of neighbors house - is it legal?

I would get a petition with your neighbors and take that to the city council and get something on the books about parking commercial vechiles on the streets in your development. I would also get something down about leaving other vechiles there for more then 24 hours. You don't want to battle this forever.

Lecach - I hope this means that the truck is gone for good, but it sound like the trucking company is not guaranteeing anything. If it returns, I would keep on contacting the trucking company. I would not leave it to just one neighbor either. It would send a stronger message to the company that the neighborhood does not want a truck parked here. I would also contact your councilman about developing an ordinance preventing commercial vehicles from parking in resident streets overnight. Our town has this type of ordinance and we never have this problem. Good luck. Jay

does your subdivision have a homeowners association- the first day we moved in the assoc. president came by and dropped off the "rules and restrictions" packet- I am sure there is a clause about not parking RVs, boats or trailers/rigs in your driveway or in front of the house - maybe that could help if your sub has those types of rules?

I emailed the lady at the development office to see if she could help. While our neighborhood is still under construction the HOA is just run by some company - there are no meetings and no resident officers or anything like that.

I also emailed the trucking company - maybe I will get further with an email than a phone call. Plus now its a weekday so the bosses will probably get the info whereas on the weekend it probably wasnt the people in charge that we talked to.

I also tried calling the city but I got nowhere with them. The neighbor next door is a lawyer so I guess I will just leave it up to him to deal with it. I think they did say something early on to the builder but they probably wrongly assumed - like we did - that once people lived there it would stop. If we do see the truck moved we all talked about parking our cars where he has been parking ;) . But we cant do that all the time. I also thought about figuring out where he lives (we know what his SUV looks like so we can find his house easily) and parking in front of his house. But that would just stir up more ugliness.

All you need is the drivers name. And then www.anywho.com and look him up!

I was going to suggest the same thing.

:teeth: There's always the media to turn to. I'm sure the trucking company wouldn't want any bad publicity. Wouldn't it be a blocking a driver's view when leaving the closest driveway? Then it would be a matter for the police since it would be a road hazard.

From what I have seen and heard from the lawyer neighbor I dont think they will let this drop. Our lawyer neighbor was a thorn in the side of the builder and everyone in the development offices. So I think something will happen and I wont have to deal with it personally :thumbsup2 .

I know this is OT but this paragraph caught my attention. This neighbor sounds like he's going to be a lot of help in the current situation and I'd be glad for that but I would not want him as my neighbor. Too often people like this thrive on conflict and create problems where they don't exist. Hard not to be their target eventually when you live next door.

You're right about this - we are a little worried about how they'll be as neighbors. The wife is great - very friendly and easy to talk to. The husband - not so much. For example - I went to Lowes Saturday night and since they were working on their house (they are re-doing the floors themselves) I went over and asked if they needed anything (it's at least 20 miles roundtrip). The wife checked with her DH and then told me they really needed some Duct tape and could I check and see how much jigsaws were. I found a jigsaw for $20 so I called my DH and he went over and asked if they wanted me to get it. They said that would be great. When I got home the wife was gone. I rang the doorbell and handed them the tape and saw. The DH hardly said thank you - and his friend that was helping just looked at me :confused3 . I didnt do it for the thanks - but I did do them a favor. The DH didnt even ask how much they owed me. The wife came over the next day and asked and wrote me a check.

The truck hasnt been back since Monday morning. But I bet he'll reappear this weekend. I will talk to the neighbors and see how they want to handle it. We'll help in whatever way we can - but I think I will let the neighbors take the lead.

Oh and CajunDixie re: media......my DH is a newspaper reporter :teeth: . So we always have that to rely on.

This would not be allowed in my neighborhood now as the HOA would take care of it quick. They would have it towed at the owners expense.

Our HOA states if you have a vehicle with a business logo you have to park your vehicle in your garage. It cannot be left out overnight and absolutely no parking of any vehicle of any kind in the street overnight. Some residents have the magnet signs they just stick on when they leave in the morning.

Warning :offtopic: : :teeth:

Hi neighbor. :wave2: I haven't seen you on here in a while. I just wanted to let you know that not only do most of our HOA not allow commercial vehicles, but it is also illegal to park any vehicle on the street in most of the county. This law applies to daytime, as well as overnight. They usually only enforce it at night & if it becomes a habitual problem. I used to work for the Sheriff's dept. & the fines go up with each ticket, & can get outrageous.

I am not sure if this was said but why doesnt someone just park where the truck was parking so he cant park there?

:wave2: back at ya! How are you doing? What are your summer plans?

I had no idea this was county wide. I thought it was an HOA rule for us. Things we learn on the Dis.
