Tracking device for car?

No one bad, we're just hesitant to let our kids out with most people. For example, if our oldest DD was catching a ride home from a school function with a friends parents then we could track that they're on their way. Especially if they're running a bit later than expected. Or if the girls are attending a scouting function that's running later than the anticipated arrival time. Kids don't always answer their phones or call to check in.
If I was your child's friend's parent and I found out you were tracking ME, there would be hell to pay.

A phone is a reasonable way to know when your child is on their way. They text you when they are leaving. They text you if they are running late. Or you can text the parent to see what is going on.

No need to spy on adults taking your child home. If you can't trust your child's friend's parents then I would suggest you go pick your child up from the school function.

Well, since I see this thread is still here....
I will add one more thing.
I find no validity to those who consider this unsolicited parenting advice.
Because, not only was this very much solicited... I also do not consider this to be an opinion regarding usual differences in parenting.
I don't feel that my viewpoints on 'secretly tracking' another human being to be just parenting advice, but to be basic human advice.

Sorry but I can not see that this is something any decent human being should do.

It is an interesting world we live in today. Cameras everywhere. A few months ago there was talk about people being able to access/hack ANY camera we have in our homes. At the time, there was a picture of Mark Zuckerberg with his Apple laptop that had black tape over the camera! THAT was a pretty strong statement right there!

We also have GPS and tracking ability that's pretty widespread. (We even use it in the hospital on equipment.) So yeah, if I have someone in my car, I guess I should expect that if someone has the ability to track THEM, then *I* might be tracked as well. In that situation, I don't think of it as I'm being tracked; I'd understand that someone was tracking someone in my car, especially if it's a young child. Not sure why this is so offensive to anyone - it's simply the world we live in today.

And further, it's somewhat beside the point, but I'm likely not going anywhere with that person in my car that anyone would have a problem with. Unless someone's not allowed to have ice cream or something and we head over to that wayward part of town that has the best ice cream, lol. I mean, why would I have to worry about being tracked by another parent if nothing nefarious is going on? Are we coming to the day and age where we don't want to drive anyone in our cars because we're being tracked and we're worried about what someone may derive from it? (Personally, I don't think so, but you never know with some people.)

Just thinking our loud about the implications of this...

I’ve tracked my kids a zillion times in other parent’s cars, to figure out when they’d be home. I assume other parents track their kids when they were with me. I don’t have a way to track their speed, but I don’t need to know that. All of my kids have had tons of carpools (several a day), and go away with friends a lot. I wouldn’t allow them to go with people I didn’t trust. My kids have gone out of the country with others.

There's been talk about that for YEARS. I don't believe it. Until I see someone get into MY PC and access my camera, I'm not going to worry one bit about it.

I cover my camera but more to protect me from myself than outsiders. If I’m in a work meeting I want to have to take several steps to video conference.

It has been around for years, but only recently has it seemed to be a real concern. I don't actually give it a lot of thought, either, but the potential for hacking is there.

Sam, first, this hacking can and does happen.
A few years ago, there was a high school kid who had signed out one of his high-school campus computers, and there was video of him IN HIS BEDROOM.
The school denied any responsibility, even though it was somebody at the school who had tracked and linked into the computer.

When that happened... that was the day I got out the black tape.
Actually, it was my son who, at the time, actually physically went and found the black tape and put it on there!

Also, it seems quite obvious that I posted because this thread was 'still active and on the front page' here. You can try to argue semantics about what I meant (which had absolutely NOTHING to do with the mods becoming involved... why would they???? If that makes your day, go for it!!!

link or it didn't happen. Was it live video? Or did he somehow set it up to record and left the video on the PC?

Oh, don't take everything so seriously.
