Can you take a Trackfone in your carryon bag or purse? I would hate to pack this in a checked bag.

Remember that foiled terrorist plot back in AUgust, the one in London that involved potentially using liquids and gels as explosives? All right then ....

The only "new" restrictions that came down in the aftermath of that news was a ban on certain types and amounts of LIQUIDS AND GELS inside aircraft cabins.

There were never any "new" restrictions placed on electronics on U.S. domestic flights. NEVER. So bring the TracFone, bring a gramaphone if you want, as long as it doesn't contain a liquid or gel you're OK.

And of course, check out the TSA website for any details. If you can wade through the dry language, it's actually pretty funny in places. Breast implants and gel inserts for bras are OK, but snow globes aren't -- go figure. :confused3

Hmmm, exploding breast implants!!! How did the terrorist miss that one??? :rotfl:

I brought my Tracfone last April in my carryon.
I also brought a small cooler full of sandwiches, ice packs and Grand Marnier.
I'm going to miss my Grand Marnier come April '07.
Good Luck All,
Joe

All joking aside ... no more ice packs on airplanes anymore -- strictly verboten. They're almost always filled with some type of gel.

Don't worry, just put them in your bra.. then they are allowed. ...

(The inmates are running the asylum here!)

A Grand Marnier Bra. That's something to think about.

A Tracfone is just like any other phone as far as the airlines are concerned. OK to take, but must remain turned off from the time the cabin door is closed until you land at your destination.

Hi ya'll

Can you "text message" the kid back home while in flight? :confused3 or does that still have to wait? Absolutely no cell phones on in the air? can I ask why? :confused3 we haven't flown since Nov 2000, and I can't remember what we did back then, all was safe then (or we thought anyway huh)?

just a worry wart mom here, just concerned about the teenager @ home by himself. No, he's 18 years old & a Sr. in high school but he's one of those kids that wants to know he's an arm's length away from mom or dad & can reach out & touch you but doesn't hang with the parents except when they are paying for supper. :thumbsup2 hahahaha

thanks

All cell phones and two-way pagers must remain off during the flight, so no text messaging. That's always been the case even before 9/11. The official reason is that there are concerns that wireless communication devices will interfere with the aircraft electronic systems, which would be bad, although I have heard from those who say there's no evidence that there is any risk. One alternate theory is that the airlines didn't want to cut into the revenues that they were making from their own in-flight phone services, but many of those are gone now anyway.

Regardless, no cells, Blackberries, text messaging, WiFi, EVDO, two way pagers, etc. are allowed to be in use or on during the flight.

My new phone has a "flight" mode which allows me to use all of the features like my calender, contact list, games, etc without using the wireless function. I haven't used it on a plane yet but given that a lot of new phones are just mini computers you see a lot of people using them in flight. They just are not "calling" anyone.

Tyguy, be prepared for them to give you a hard time, especially if they've never heard of this feature. Flight attendants can be very insistent! We used to use a miniDV player to show the kids cartoons, and very often were made to turn it off, even though it wasn't listed in the In Flight magazine as a prohibited device. Now, they have DVD players on all flights, but they'll tell you that they're packaged in special "shielding." Trust me, it got ugly when I had to fly alone from Bilbao, Spain to Ontario, CA...The route was Bilbao to Madrid, Madrid to London, London to Miami, Miami to Dallas and finally, Dallas to Ontario. Oh yeah, that was with my two young DS's! Anyway, I'm rambling, but the flight attendants sometimes would prohibit the player, since it was new, and they weren't familiar with it. Good luck though. :sunny:

Call it whichever you like, but when you serve the Grand Marnier to the man with the baton you'd better call him Maestro.

We could go back and forth like this forever, but I have to stop. I'm leaving for Tuscany soon, but don't try to follow me because there are no rentals left there. You can't get a thing.

And then there is the theory that if we let folks talk on thier cell phones they would and at some point there would be an RIOT where the other passengers beat the offender to death.... (Think about it, do you REALLY want to listen to your seatmate discuss thier business deal and/or love life etc. on the plane where you CANNOT get away from them!) The FAA has considered allowing cell phone use. I have written them expressing my concern over the potential for disruptions on the flight....

Are you trying to tell me in all of Tuscany there is nothing? No rentals?
