Just wanted to echo her positive thoughts on Celebrity Cruises! I listened to that show at the beginning of the year when browsing for a March cruise and decided to follow her guidance and try out a 7-Night Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Celebrity Reflection (this is their most recent ship, which debuted in 2012). We absolutely loved it and actually found it more enjoyable than even a Disney Cruise (mind you, we only have adults in our party). I'll add that this was only our second cruise with our first being last year on the Disney Dream.
Service, dining, and amenities were all just as excellent as she said, and because we were on a newer ship, it seemed that some of the issues with space and outdated areas were not problems on this ship. It was very modern and upscale, and the crew seemed to reflect that. I was honestly surprised by how attentive they were. Their attention to detail seemed far more subtle than on DCL but just as strong, if not stronger, if that makes any sense. Nothing but extraordinary things to say about the service on this ship.
Also surprising was entertainment. My guess is that they put their best entertainers on longer cruises with more sea days or something, because our experiences with entertainment were really good. While the production shows were not up to Disney caliber, the entertainers themselves were very, very talented. We even saw two comedians perform onboard and both were funny, especially the first who was just absolutely hilarious.
In a larger sense, I completely understand now what Tracey meant when she said everyone the ship really was having fun. I can't put my finger on it either, but it was a different kind of fun than on Disney but not a booze cruise/party vibe either. Everyone was just very friendly. People would randomly say hi in the elevators, they would start up conversation with other passengers, they seemed to participate in all of the activities, and the like. People were just hanging out at the bars talking (there were bars everywhere on this ship, but as someone who doesn't drink, I never felt left out), couples were dancing in the atrium, so there was just a fun vibe. While most of the parties were all adults (though not as old as I expected), we did see a number of families with kids ranging from kids to toddlers to teens). It's hard to explain.
I also thought it was a really good deal, especially considering we're in peak spring break season. For three people, our fare was about $3,700 for a concierge class verandah stateroom. In hindsight, I would have saved a few hundred bucks and opted for a standard verandah (concierge really just gave you a complimentary in-room snack each day and a bottle of champaign; the more traditional concierge amenities require an "AquaClass" stateroom; this was like concierge lite). This fare also included a $300 onboard credit and the "classic" beverage package for all of us. And this was booked just over two months before the cruise. On Disney, a Western Caribbean 7-Night cruise for this week was about $6,700 for a standard verandah for three people.
Overall, I cannot echo Tracey's sentiment enough. Especially if you have older kids or no kids, Celebrity is a lovely option for a slightly more upscale yet just as relaxing cruise. Curious if anyone has had experiences on other Celebrity ships? Also, if anyone has any questions, I'm happy to answer what I can.
