I've followed other posts and cannnot quite work out which is the best :confused3

We will look at 2 phones since OH and I can use them mainly to keep in touch when we seperate with thrillseekers versus IASW fan. :thumbsup2

OH also likes to keep in touch with her family with a couple of calls to home and an abundance of texts :rolleyes1

Which option is best for us :)

I can't really help you yet Reid,as i have not used my Net10 LG300G phones, but will give you the lowdown when we return :thumbsup2 ,if that helps you.

Kerry-TheFetherstons,got our Net10 phones for us when she went last year(as we wasn't planning on visiting Walmart). They were $29.99 each and came with 300minutes free worth $30.
10cents a minute to call each other
5cents to text
15cents to call the uk
We need the phones for the exact same reason you do.x.

ETA these are the ones we have Reid http://www.net10.com/phone_details.jsp?model=PCNTLG300GP_EN

Michelle thanks this sounds just the job :thumbsup2

Edited - an additional question. Would family need to code top dial/txt a Net 10 phone?
Or if we texted first would that give them the number :)

Do you have to buy one over there or can you have them shipped to the UK? I normally just buy a $20 phone card for the trip, but these phones look like they work out a lot cheaper; I'd never heard of them before.

these phones look like a good deal compared to phoning UK with UK provider whilst there...

Oh i am not sure on that one :confused3 ,i assume if you text they will get the number that way-same as a mobile over here.x.

We got ours in Walmart(well someone got them for me).I don't think Walmart will ship here+if they did you would'nt really be getting a good deal.x.

This
is the best info I can find Reid. So your family would dial 00 1 and then the number of your Net10 phone.

Hi Reid, we were looking into this as well for our next trip. We decided to go for the tracphones because calling home to the UK is the same price as calling localy in the US, as far as i'm aware net 10 is more expensive, but it depends on what you want to use your phones for i suppose. Because you are just a few miles away from us we would have gladly loaned you ours, we are already going to lend another couple of friends the phones when they go to the US, depending on when you are going? This way the phones will stay in use and save having to reconnect :thumbsup2

Let me know if you want a loan of the phones, it's no problem, when are you going?:goodvibes

if I remember correctly Net10 will not allow you to send texts abroad, so you can only call the UK for $0.15/minute but not send texts.
We like them though, easy to use and cheap. No complaint so far

My parents have a Net10 phone and they are always texting me when they're in Florida and I'm suck in the UK (usually when I'm having a boring day at work and they're having lunch in downtown disney - unfair :sad1: )

They have a deal where they buy 1000mins once a year and get cheap calls to the UK (they have to dial a number for Net10 international and then dial the UK number). A text costs them something like 1 min of airtime to send or receive a text. They got it in Walmart - I think the card was something like $75.

"NET10 service does not allow international text messages. Attempting to send international messages could result in service deactivation."

We have just purchased two brand new Tracfones from a seller (professional) on Ebay.com and the total cost, including a sime and 2 mins of airtime each, and postage for both was £22. We can register them online before we go.

You will have to register them over in the USA as the phone do not work over here. The phones need to be switched on to receive the activation code.

Tracfones do have a website which may answer questions anybody has.

We bought tracfones last July and they are so handy and cheap. They also allow you a bit of flexibility especially in shopping malls where the family may want to split up.
