Does anyone know anything about this car? With the high price of gasoline, my DS is thinking about buying the Prius. I wondered if anyone has any comments on it. Thanks.

I've really been wanting one. Unfortunately it was too expensive and too hard to get when I needed a new car last year. There is a waiting list for about 1 year to get one.

My DH has had one for three years now and loves it!

There is no longer a waiting list either...all dealers should have stock on hand.

After seeing my husband's Prius, there are now three more in our family. My brother, my sister-in-law and my niece all have the new ones.

I say go for it!!

you also get a tax break owning a hybrid I think it is $1500 this year. We are getting one and my father in law owns one. He will also be getting the new hybrid suv I think lexus when it comes out in June. It is really cool and gets very good gas mileage. You also can drive in HOV lanes ( live in Northern VA) sometimes better to be in HOV lanes because of traffic they are usually going because they're restrictions on those lanes..

A coworker has had two now - bought first one when they first came out - and loves them. Based on his review, we are looking to buy a Toyota Highlander hybrid when they come out later this year.

We're considering getting a hybrid -- don't know if it'll be a Toyota or something else. I've heard that you have to pay sticker price -- no negotiations. Can anyone deny or confirm that? How about safety ratings? Thanks. This is a topic we're just starting to investigate.

In the beginning, there has been such a demand that dealers didn't have to negotiate. In fact, around here people were paying above sticker when the Prius first came out. I expect that might happen when the SUV hybrids come out too, but hopefully after the initial surge of purchases, that will calm down.

My Boyfriend just purchased one, and we LOVE it. It's great on Gas Milage (500+ miles on the first tank of Gas) and it's totally geeked out... and of course he's a huge Tech fan, so.. *grin* He's VERY happy about his prius.. now I want one.

Thanks for the info, Pooh.

I'm interested in the SUVs (I drive a baby-SUV now, and the size is perfect for us), but I don't think I want the very first model anyway. My parents bought one of the very first Dodge Caravan minivans (I'm thinking it must've been '82, '83, '84 because I was still in high school), and it was a major lemon. The transmission would slip into reverse at a stoplight, the air conditioning essentially never worked (and we live in the deep South), and the engine was just plain no good. It was so bad that they wouldn't allow us kids to drive it; they were afraid that being inexperienced drivers we wouldn't be able to handle it -- especially that transmission slipping part. I heard decent things about later models, but because of that I don't want to buy the first-year anything. I want them to "work out the kinks" on someone else's car!

I don't think the SUV hybrids will be quite so bad since the vehicle models already exist, they are just putting hybrid engines in. I assume Toyota knows how to build the hybrid engines by now with the success of the Prius. ;)

I have the Ford Escape Hybrid and absolutely love it. I haven't had any problems with it at all so far and am getting great gas mileage. We paid just under sticker, which we were pretty happy with, considering the fact that dealerships around here (Northern VA) are charging a $5000 "location adjustment" on top of the price of the truck. As far as availability, every dealership that we contacted had at least one, if not two or three, on the lot, so they are available.

The company I work for has 2 of them in their fleet. They are small and I dont see where they get the mileage they claim but they are good on gas.
The Ford Escape is bigger if you are planning on driving the family around.
