heading to WDW for the Christmas vacation. So the other night DH & I are lying in bed talking nd he mentions going to WDW for Christmas. Unfortunately the flights are either astronomical or sold out so it appears if we go we're driving.

I just called and Pop Century is available (I won't even try for a DVC resort) we have our AP's so what is stopping me?????

It's the ride, we swore we wouldn't do that again. How bad are the masses during that time and is it worth the 24 hour grueling ride there & back.

Help???

Where are you riding from? 24 hours EACH way? That week is THE largest crowds, historically, but, it's the World, right?? If you are able to check in 12/19 or earlier, rates are value (lowest) vs holiday (highest). Have you thoroughly check airlines, Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, etc?

Dan,

I was trying to stay home for Christmas so as not to make everything chaotic. So I figured it we left on the 25th around 5:00 and between the 2 of us drive right through (although we've never done this before) . Yes it is 24 hrs. We've done it twice each time saying we wouldn't again.

WE are creatures of habit Dan if we can't fly SW out of Manchester we figure it's a sign!!!! It's the only airline we've flown for the last 3 years. Odd ducks I know. I think I'll check their schedule again.

Looks to me like it may be a washout. Oh well!

Thanks,
Lisa

Ill give you a vote of confidence here! Since 9/01 we have driven to WDW from MA 3 times. We do it straight through, 24 hours and have found its really not bad at all. Before that first drive I thought driving was crazy, but I didnt want to fly right after 9/11 so we gave driving a shot. We are going to fly on our next 2 trips and Im already thinking I might miss driving. Its so much less stressful. We go 10:00am-10:00am. DH does most of the driving except for early morning, when he sleeps and I take over.
As for the crowds, thats another thing I never wanted to do. I remember saying between the possibility of cold weather and the crazy crowds, I would never go to WDW for Christmas. Well, guess where Im spending this Christmas? LOL! The way I look at it, we go enough(APs this year) so I dont feel pressured to do everything. My main objective is to do the holiday stuff and get the Disney magic for the holidays(and my birthday).
I say go for it! See you there! ;)

We've driven 16-17 hours each way all three times we've gone in December. Each time, we've said "Next time, we're flying."

Guess who is driving to WDW this December?

I've been checking air fare since this summer. It has done nothing but go up. It would add more than $1000 to our trip, so we are driving. :D

We'll be leaving pretty soon after you get there, so I know the crowds will be building -- but, I'll be in Disney World, so I can handle it. :bounce:

Have you considered taking a bus?

Isn't the driving at that time of year pretty risky? We also live about 24 hours drive time from WDW, and have never done it.
Unless you have a lot of time(couple of weeks), I don't think it would be worth it. But I'm one who doesn't care to spend more than a couple of hours in the car. Good luck, and have a good trip.:earsboy:
