or so this guy thinks so. Great theory if it's true: http://moviepilot.com/posts/2014/02...ry-even-more-epic&subscribe_to=1247874#!xd1sO

I so hope it is true. I really want it to be. :rotfl2:

I remember wondering why the hat was different years ago when I first saw the movie, but I never though any more about it by the time the next one came out. I wouldn't put it past Pixar's creative department to do something so incredibly epic. Pure genius if it is true!

Andy wears a 'Girl's Hat' taunts are coming.

I didn't read this, but my son told me about it and we were discussing it earlier. (Disney household discussions! :rotfl2: )

He said the upshot is Andy's mom is Emily, the girl who left Jessie. I said she would be too young. It seems more likely to be Andy's grandmother. She would have been a child in the 50's. Andy would be roughly the same age my boys and I would be about the same age as his mom. My mom played cowboys in the 50's. I didn't. So I don't see how his mom could have. Anyway, that was my thought.

This would be very cool if true but I remember in Toy Story 3 Jessie says something like "It’s Emily all over again!" when Andy is having his clear out before he goes to College - I would have thought Jessie would have know Andy's mom was Emily.

I agree that it could be Andy's grandma or maybe a female relative from his dad's family!!

I love these details Pixar put into their films - like Boo possibly being one of the kids at Sunnyside.

If I had to guess, I would think that it would have been more likely that Emily was Andy's grandmother, but even then, I don't know if the timelines add up quite seamlessly when looked at closer.

Toy Story 1 came out in 1995. As far as I/we know, that story was meant to be set in "present day" or a year or two behind. If you look closely at the beginning of Toy Story 2, the game controller Rex used was literally a Super Nintendo controller that came out in 1991. If so, I think it would be safe to say that Andy's mom would have been about 30, give or take a couple years. If we believe the story is set in 1995, we can assume Andy's Mom was born around 1965. If we go back and look at Toy Story 2 during the tear-inducing "When Somebody Loved Me" sequence as told by Jessie, it looked like Emily became a pre-teen/teenager sometime in the mid 50's since she is seen wearing iconic Saddle Shoes when talking on the phone after Jessie falls under the bed. Add 3-5 years, and then it transitions to the early/early-mid 60's and Jessie being given away sometime before she leaves for college (this is an assumption on my part, but logically would make sense). If we assume Emily gets married and has a baby (Andy's Mom) sometime right out of college 4-ish years later, we are looking at mid-late 60's. If so, then that timeline adds up for the approximate age Andy's Mom has to be in the year 1995.

Of course, if the movie is actually set sometime much earlier -- which I doubt just looking at the world the movie is set in the first two movies -- it makes it possible that Andy's Mom COULD be Emily. With the addition of the cowboy hat Andy wears, it would make it seem possible for sure, but just analyzing it closer, to me it would make much more sense for Emily to Andy's grandmother.

Unless Andy's mom has ovaries of steel and the best plastic surgeon on the planet. :rotfl:

Mind....blown........
Agreed- such a cool premise!!!

Interesting- BUT- using ME as the example and the story set in 1995- Emily certainly could be Andy's Mom!
In 1995 I had an 8 yr old and a 5 yr old. They were still playing with Super Nintendo- in fact we just acquired that in 1995- our first game system.
I was born in 1955. As a teenager- saddle shoes had made a comeback! I wore them in high school. I had a princess phone in my room. In the 50's- I doubt you'd find very many (if any) teenagers with phones in their rooms.

I love the whole idea. It makes the stories even sweeter! :goodvibes

It is absolutely possible. My mother had me when she was 37 and she was born in 1953 herself! :)

Just by going on what they presented in the movies, I'd assume Emily would have had to of been born in the late 1940's, which is really stretching things with how young Andy's mom looks in Toy Story 1 vs. how young she still looks with an extra ten years tacked on in Toy Story 3.

It'd be super sweet if it was indeed true, but Jessie not realizing his mom was Emily throws another kink in the theory. You could probably also thrown in the fact that Emily would have had to of had Woody too, and if so, why did they not recognize or remember each other? Why would Andy's mom throw out Jessie, but keep Woody when Jessie was her favorite?

I'm thinking wayyyyy too much in to this and I need to stop. haha. :scared1:

I love the analyses of the DISers! And it would not surprise me that Pixar would have an underlying tie-in like this. Kinda gives me chills and makes me want saddle shoes ;)

I read this article the other day and thought it was really awesome, but I couldn't get over the fact that Jessie and Andy's mom didn't recognize each other.

Then I found this thread and I can stop losing sleep over it! Haha :faint:

I think it would explain why Jessie doesn't recognize Andy's mom as Emily (and vice versa). And why Andy's mom doesn't question Jessie's sudden existence in her home. Woody is "an old family toy" according to Andy's mom in TS2, so he probably belonged to Emily's brother - Andy's mom's uncle. She probably saw the dolls in family photos etc.

I just love seeing how the Pixar world is all interconnected!
