We really like this ride at WDW but only once have we rode it without a FP (FP on this one in WDW is the way to go) . I wondered if it was as popular at DLR since there is no FP and has the new movie/increased crowds due to WOC made the ride busier? I know the ride closes early in the evening for WOC and wondered what your strategy was for riding this. Do they have a single riders line?

It is very popular. There is no FP or single rider line. We get a snack and enjoy each others' company while waiting in line.

It's the only ride we stood in longer than 30 minutes. It was usually no shorter than 45-50 when we were there last month.

We were there in June and it took us 3 days to get there "first"...its stupid. Everyone one RUNS ok Walks to get on the ride...so the first day we went to DL first and then we were on the bugs life side waiting for the park to open, so the distance between bugs life down to the pier with a stroller....maybe 5 min right...well it was a 45 min line when we got there...

The next time we went we waited for the park to open right by the new ariel ride, across from the bridge, this allowed us to be the first group let in the park an we only had to wait 15 min.

Then next day it was closed when park opened but opened 20 min later so we got to go again. So 7 day trip rode it twice.

They said they wont put in FP for this ride not enough room?

But it stupid to have that many people RUNNING for the ride right when the park opens -

Love the ride, not worth the wait in disney lines with 2 year old and 3.5 year old.

Ok just a rant ;)

I'd like to hear more strategies as well. Sounds like first thing in the morning is not the best if you have to wait 45 minutes. That's what the wait is normally like midday! So why not just wait until later in the day when you are in the area, get a snack, and hop in line.

I don't know why people are telling you not to ride first thing in the morning. I've rode this loads of times and always first thing in the morning. The most I've ever waited is 15 min. Usually it's a walk on. We line up at the gates to DCA about 30 min before park opening, they usually let you in at this time and the area heading toward PP will be roped off but Soarin' is open so we ride that first (always have just walked on) and then when we're done with that it's just a short wait at ropedrop then we walk (I do NOT run or even walk fast) with 3 year old in his stoller, park the stoller, get him out and still casually walk in the line for the ride and STILL don't wait more then the aforementioned 15 min max. The only way I could see long lines first thing is on a busy holiday or summer weekend. My advice is get there before rope drop and walk on over and ride. No worries.

It's on our schedule to try one morning, so I will report back in late July!

I think that the WoC fastpass distribution has increased the number of people waiting at rope drop for TSMM. We saw a number of other guests with those fastpasses when we got to the rope drop area at about 9:40 after entering at the VGC. Unfortunately, the ride was not yet open after we "walked with purpose" that morning. Still the wait that morning about 20 mintues later (after riding Maliboomer) was shorter than later in the day when we rode for a second time. -- Suzanne

My boys and I were there a week ago and rode TSMM for the first time. We went straight there at park opening, but we were with some friends who don't share my sense of urgency, so we kind of meandered over. The cast member told us it would be about 45 minutes, but it really worked out to be 60. During the rest of our visit the line never looked any shorter. Too bad they can't figure out fastpass, because it is such a cool ride.

We rode it right after the 2nd WOC showing and waited 20 minutes. We watched WOC from the back by the Funwheel and sprinted over when WOC finished.

Oh maybe I got this wrong - I thought I had read that the ride closed at 8pm for the WOC preparations - I had assumed it wouldn't re-open. Others have posted that there may be/will probably be a third showing of WOC at 11.15pm when we are there - I wondered if the ride re-opens after or between showings?

The ride was up and running during the second WOC showing and it seemed to still be open when the 3rd showing started up too. This was a Grad Night at DL so maybe DCA had more rides open late to make up for DL closing early.:confused3
We never saw TSMM with a line less than 50 minutes except for during the 2nd WOC show. They really need to put a FP machine in for that attraction. With no FP for TOT and no FP for GRR until mid-afternoon it was hard to plan for DCA if you like using FPs to get the most out of your day.
TOT had 10 to 15 minute lines during the morning though so if want to ride that try for the morning hours.

I don't understand why this needs to be closed for WOC, I can understand maybe lowering the lights on the outside, but since the ride is in doors how would it effect WOC?

When we were there 2 weeks ago it wasn't closed during WOC.

The thinking is they don't want lights on behind the show (for TSMM it would be the lights in the queu). I think any lights behind it would be distracting.

Somegirl: you may be right that they kept it open due to DL being closed early that night.

I have ridden TSM many times. I would love for this ride to have a FP. I liked having the FP at DHS, and it makes for a good day. I am wondering if all of us would make it a point to write a comment about the need for a FP machine for TSM. You can submit a comment sheet at Guest Relations. If there is a bigger "voice" for this, Disney just may make some plans for one in the future, especially with the renovations at DCA.
