Ok - so dd and I have APs and go a couple of times a month to DL & DCA. DD loves TSM but we both hate the long line.

After talking to a CM we found out about the single rider line. Which I think is a great thing. The CM encouraged us to use this line to cut our wait time down. DD is 7 and I am not sure I feel comfortable with this. THe CM said that at 7 years old kids can use the single rider line.

The way it works is that when there is an odd numbered party the CMs pull one person from the single rider line to go in that car. You never know who you are going to ride with or how long you are going to wait.

I felt uncomfortable doing this with dd becuase it is just her and I. At some point she would be alone. The CM said she could go first and the just wait for me on the opposite platform.

I guess this would be a good option if we were going with other people so at least one adult/older kid could go first and wait for her on the other side.

Anyway - I guess my question is am I being too over protective? What age is a good age (I guess this would depend on each individual childs level of maturity)? WHat would you do in this situation?

In the end we just waited in the regular line. Neither one of us felt comfortable with her being by herself.

I will say this once we are comfortable with this we will make use of it!!

I don't blame you at all! I think 7 is a bit too young to be by oneself on either end of the ride, plus to be put in a car with complete strangers.

We did the single-rider line two weeks ago. The line moved along quickly at first but then had about a 10-minute wait until the next single got to go. That wait separated two teenage girls who were together, so the one had to wait at the end for her friend. Personally I would feel too uncomfortable leaving my 7 year old child waiting by themselves on either end. I believe it's worth a few extra minutes wait to be able to go together and have peace of mind.

I agree 7 is too young. Besides, at that age I would want to experience it with them anyway. :)

Why feel uncomfortable over it. Seven is too young and the stress is not something you should contend with while in the parks. Just take an extra 20 or so minutes and ride it with her, it is more fun with someone to compete with anyways!

We did single rider for TSMM and loved it!! We actually got it right so my 2 girls and I were on one car and DBF was on the next one. We got lucky but it was GREAT! My girls are 8 and 12, we just told them to wait on the platform if they went before us. It's really not that big a deal, the CM's on the platform will let your child wait near the fence/gate and watch for you.

The fact that you felt compelled to ask the question to me means that she is too young. If you are questioning the situation at all, don't do it. It is common sense. Be the great mom that you are first before being practical to save time.;)

It is a great ride, isn't it?

I am glad that we waited in the regular line. I would never do anything that would make my dd uncomfortable. Unfortuantely the wait was 60 minutes not 20! LOL!!

I just wanted to see how other people would handle this. Like I said this would be great for older kids or if we had an other adult/older kid with us.

I would never let my 7 year old wait by themselves. I just don't feel comfortable with the idea to many things could happen. Besides, I would miss having them on the ride with me and experiencing it with them. Sorry the wait was sooo long for you! Hope you had a good time when you finally got to ride.

I'm torn between a yes and a no on this one and here's why...

1) Pro - Most Disney rides are not physically set up with the platform on the other side, so TSMM is very unusual in that it is extremely secure/well contained. There is always a CM on that side and you can see and communicate with people on that platform VERY easily from the SR line (in case you get stuck waiting.) . I've waited there with my 1 yr old and there is plenty of room for you to stand where you are not in the path of exiting riders heading up the stairs. Once you are on the ride, it's only a little over 2 minutes that they would be by themselves. Now that they have moved the cans to return the glasses to the top of the stairs, there is less mingling and confusion on the platform, too. People exit very quickly, leading to a cleaner line of sight.

2) Pro and Con - A 7 yr old is old enough to stand where told. They do it in school all the time. But, all kids are different. Maturity of the child should dictate how much rope/freedom you give a child. Kids who don't like being in strange places without their parents will never blow off the extra stress of being alone to wait.

Bottom line, go with your gut.

It may be a non-issue, because someone on another thread said there is no longer a single rider line at TSM. Too bad if that's true, because it worked well for our party of 3 adults and 3 children last trip.

Single rider line does still exist at TSM.

It was there as of two days ago!! It might not be advertised but it is there.

We hardly ever go to DL. When we do, I want to experience it with our whole family. This year because we went with another family good friends and the fact they[the kids] were 21. We let them wander off. 2 rode everything, 1 waited. I would not have wanted my Dd to have wait alone. But because she loves every ride at DL she was not alone. Which made me feel better. After they left, we went as a family again. To make our family memories

Oh, yippee! I was wondering why they would get rid of it! My son also rode Everest several times in 30 minutes using the single rider line and we all did single rider for Test Track. What a time saver!

Oops, the other thread was talking about TSM at WDW, not DL. I was wondering why this thread was a different color than the ones I usually frequent, LOL

I realise that the problem was because the PP who didn't think that there was a single rider line was thinking of WDW not DL, but when I was there for the Half Marathon weekend, the single rider line didn't open until the afternoon (at least on Saturday which is only day we tried in the morning). It was open (and very useful) that afternoon.
