Just in case I can't secure a FP that works with our schedule, I was wondering if we're at the park before 9am open, and skip all the pictures and go straight to TSM, what do you think the wait time would be?

Thanks!

Get there early....8:30 ish. Go directly there as fast as you can, and you should be able to ride it once with maybe up to a 15 minute wait.

The park opens by 8:45 so you'd need to be at the gates by 8:15 to be near the front of the line. If you are near the front of the line and head directly to TSMM, you could be on the ride within 15-20 minutes. If you aren't fast walkers or will have little ones with you, add in more minutes.

I can't remember if there's a line to get in at rope drop or a mad dash for everyone once we're allowed in?

I don't mind skipping the photos and go straight there. We're leaving the park early that day so I can't do a later FP time :( but I want to make sure we can get on that ride.

15 min wait at rope drop sounds reasonable to me! :D

LOL! So if park hours says 9am, they actually let in at 8:45am?

I'm a mad dasher but will need to push my kids through the rush, haha. I'll make every attempt dodging around people. :)

Keep an eye on the wait times in MDE as your date approaches. That'll give you the best sense of how well that strategy will work ie. if at 9:05 it's already a 60 minute wait, then everyone had the same plan. :) But I can't express enough how important it is to keep checking FP availability - everything, I mean everything, we wanted popped up eventually.

In March and Oct visits last years our worst RD time for TSM was 20 mins and we didn't get to DHS super early. We were just inside the first overhang when the park opened.

Yes they do but none of the rides are operating yet.

I was there this morning at 9 am went straight to Toy Story and the wait time was 30 minutes.

I will go Wednesday January 28, must be a "slow" day.

Will I need to get right on TSM also be their as early as 8:15 meaning need to leave Hotel at Sand Lake/I Drive at 7...?

Is Bus 50 stopping at Disney's Hollywood Studios or Epcot or do I need to change to Disney Transportation at the DD Superstop?

If I need to change: Arriving DD Superstop 8:01 will be fine?

Is at that time also a Boat (free?) that goes to Disney's Hollywood Studios or Epcot?

How long to walk from Epcot Resort Entrance to Disney's Hollywood Studios?

For a 9:00 opening be at the tapstiles no later than 8:20. Preferably a little earlier. You want to, no - have to, be as close to the front as you can. The closer you are to the 'front of the pack' the shorter you standby line will be.

In July we arrived at the park at 8:45 on a posted 9:00 opening. I knew we needed to be there earlier, but we blew it. They started letting people through the tapstiles at 8:45. We were through about 10 minutes behind the 'front of the pack', and our wait ended up being 45 minutes.

On Dec 30 we arrived at the park at 7:20 for a posted 8:00 opening. We were 4 people back from the tapstiles. They started letting people in at 7:40. We were at the front of the pack and we walked right on the ride, zero wait, first ride vehicle. As we exited the ride 10 minutes after we entered the posted standby time was 60 minutes.

Moral of the story? BE THERE EARLY. Seriously, 10 minutes behind the leaders can cost you 45 to 60 minutes or more. Yes, some people say you are just trading waits by sitting outside the tapstiles for 30 minutes. However, that 30 minutes up front can literally save you hours. On Dec 30th we went straight to RnR after TSMM. Waited 10 minutes, when we got off 10 minutes later the posted standby was over 60 minutes. Over to ToT where we waited another 10, and the standby time was again over a hour when we got off. So someone just 10 minutes behind us coming through the tapstiles would have had to spend over 3 hours in standby lines to ride TSMM, RnR and ToT, whereas we only spent 20 minutes. Yes, add the 20 minutes we were there before opening and we waited 40 minutes total, but by being there early we saved two and a half hours of waiting. Then we had FP+ in hand when we went to the MK that night!

Hi

Does it make sense for the time January 26 - February 5 on low crowd days (not weekends) to use Fastpass + for SHOWS?

If I come short before Show start will I get in with it faster as normal Que and get better seats as without Fastpass + ( are their special reserved Areas? )

Look my Schedule for Jan 28:

Question to it: DOES IT MAKE MORE SENSE TO USE FASTPASS + for Voyage of The Little Mermaid or for Beauty and the Beast?

Toy Story does begin operating at 8:45AM when they let you in early. At least this has been the case for us the last few years. I would suggest getting in line no later than 8:15 if not earlier. We were running late one day this past trip and we got in line around 8:30. We were way back from the tapstiles. It took us over 10 minutes to get through the line. By the time we got to TSMM the standby line was 45 minutes.

Week before Thanksgiving we got to DHS around 8:30-8:35, and the line at the turnstyles was backed up to the ticket windows. Once we get in, we walked very briskly and headed straight for TSMM and waited about 20 minutes - however, we are a party of two, and at the point where you grab your 3D glasses, we were re-routed to the right side of the stairs and got on almost immediately. Probably another 5-7 minute wait if we hadn't been permitted to do this.

We did rope drop at HS last trip. Walked as fast as we could to get to TSM and it was 9:10 when we got there with a 60 minute wait already. There was quite a crowd there already when we arrived at maybe 8:50.

This has been my experience also. TSMM is the only one operating at that time. RNRR will hold the line until 9, but TSMM is running when they open the gates.

I'm going the week before you, and we always go at the same time of year.

Using Fastpass+ for the shows at Hollywood Studios this time of year is pretty pointless. Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast have showtimes throughout the day, and I've never had a problem walking in and sitting right down. Get there 15 min. before showtime and you won't need a Fastpass+. Save the Fastpass+ for the rides.

Unless you want special seating for Fantasmic at night... in which case, it's up to you whether you want to Fastpass+ that or not. But again, I go late January all the time and most shows aren't packed very early, and most rides have less than a 20 min. wait (exceptions in Hollywood Studios being Toy Story Mania and Rock 'N' Rollercoaster, which can be up to an hour at the busiest time of day).

Our trips overlap a bit! Have a great time! :yay:

We were there this morning. Arrived to the lines at 8:20 with about 25 people ahead of us in line. Then they opened more tap styles and we were 1st. They let us in at 8:55. I am not a fast walker. We stopped at the kiosk next to TSM to get our fast passes. Got an 9:45 for TSM, Then rode with almost no wait, then rode again with 20 minute wait, then used the fastpass. I guess we were lucky.

9 pm can often be better than 9 am. During our latest visit, we hit Midway Mania just as the early edition of Fantasmic was starting. The posted wait was 75 minutes but the actual wait was 15 or less. We were able to ride 4 times in about an hour and still had plenty of time to attend the next Fantasmic show.

We felt that It was a pretty efficient use of an hour.

We were in the middle to front of line and mad dashed it over to TSM. The wait was about 15 minutes by the time we got there. We just waited in line because 15 minutes is a lot more reasonable then 60 minutes!
