The nominations for the Academy Awards is out.

Disney/Pixar's "Toy Story 3" has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Animated Film and Best Screenplay.

Discuss. :goodvibes

So excited to see it in best picture! I mean, let's be real, it's not going to win best picture but I will fall down dead if it doesn't win best animated picture. Probably won't win best screenplay either.

What a good morning for Pixar!

Personally, I think its got a good shot to win best picture. The storyline was amazing. With all of the remakes going on in Hollywood these days it seems like creativity is lost. After I saw Toy Story 3 I thought to myself how come we can't see more creativity out of Hollywood like this film?

It just seemed to me whoever thought of the storyline, plot, and ending to Toy Story 3 was an absolute genius. IDK...Maybe I'm giving Pixar and their creative minds too much credit, or maybe I'm just bias. :)

Hmm....I'm gonna be a Debbie Downer here and say that this is Pixar's pity nomination for overlooking (IMHO) more worthy films such as Toy Story, Wall-E and Up.

I enjoyed TS3 but I believe story-wise and wit-wise, it wasn't up to Best Picture material. Toy Story, Wall-E and Up were.

But again, IMHO.

I do hope that Jeff Bridges wins another Oscar. He's been one of the hardest working actors in show business for years and it's neat to see him finally get some recognition. Although I'm pulling for James Franco too, just cuz I think he's hot. :rotfl:

Meh. The Toy Story series as a whole has never been my favorite - good, but not amazing - and the third is no different. If TS3 were not the 3rd in a beloved series I seriously doubt it would get nearly as much love from fans or critics. People got sentimental over it and allowed that to cloud their judgement. While it was enjoyable to watch it was not the best thing Pixar has ever put out and both How to Train Your Dragon and Tangled were both better animated films in 2010, both of which I would personally feel are more deserving of awards than TS3.

TS3 is like the old, dead athelete that gets inducted into a hall of fame for their sport because people have inflated their impact over the years since they stopped playing/died and are now giving them more credit than they may truly deserve.

I'm not a TS3 hater by any means, I'm just trying to keep things in perspective and not allow the last five minutes of the movie to cloud my judgement about the other hour and a half before it.

I loved TS3 and agree that the storyline was amazing. I think Pixar's creativity is off the charts, but to be fair, they are animated movies, they can be alot more creative because they can pretty much do anything as opposed to "live" movies. Pixar blows every studio out of the water in terms or originality...even Disney, but I still don't see TS3 winning Best Picture. I think it's awesome and well deserved that it is nominated though.

I'm so surprised to see anyone so down on TS3! Wow! It was my favorite movie of the year. Yeah, I love the TS movies in general, but I've seen the movie multiple times and it effected me the same way (tears) every time. I can't say that about many other movies.

I saw How to Train Your Dragon and Tangled and greatly enjoyed both movies, but I thought TS3 was much better than both. And I've seen several of the other best picture nominees and TS3 is still my favorite.

Definitely don't think it got a nomination because it's impact has been inflated. Not at all. (Honestly, I think The Social Network was over hyped. Good movie, but I didn't see what was so "amazing" about it. Black Swan was better, and Inception was much better than both of those.)

All just my opinion!

I am glad to hear that !!!! I really liked the movie....it wasn't the tear jerker that I had heard it was...the ending was moving...but life goes on.

Toy Story 3 is nominated for Best Picture and Best Animated Picture. I sure hope that the votes don't get split and it ends up losing in both categories. Personally, I don't think it stands a chance in the Best Picture category. I suspect Disney will put all its efforts in campaigning to get the votes for the Best Animated Picture category.

The short that played before Toy Story 3, Day & Night, was nominated for Best Short Film (Animated).

What happened to Tangled? I'm surprised it wasn't nominated in the Best Animated Picture category, but then Academy members would've split their votes between Toy Story 3 and Tangled resulting in one of the non-Disney films winning.

i LOVED TS3!!!!
we all did...
i would love to see it win everything it's up for....i thought it was absolutely brilliant!!!
i actually liked it better than 1 and 2!!!

Best picture? Probably not. But definitely better than the Black Swan:)

you didn't like the black swan? i haven't seen it, but it got such rave reviews.....not that rave reviews mean anything...so many times i love movies the critics hate and vice versa..

I am really pleased it got nominated. :) I loved the film. :)

Swan was one of the worst movies I have ever seen...and I'm 65 years old.
Mindless sex, a plot (I guess it had a plot) I still haven't figured out, several characters with no real purpose in the film. I'm not even sure if she died at the end, was dreaming, or what??

If you like ballet films, the Turning Point was SO much better.

If I remember correctly, UP was nominated in both categories last year as well, so I don't think this was a "pity" nomination as you put it.:confused3

another good ballet film is Mao's Last Dancer....i enjoyed that one...

i'm not a natalie portman fan, so i guess i'll pass on swan...it sounds too depressing anyway...i like uplifting movies, not sad ones..

I'm just glad that it got the best Oscar nomination that it deserved. Anyone who has seen it and says it did not deserve the best picture nomination is crazy.
