Townhouse pool heat in Sept/early October?

We are looking at renting a townhouse for the first time (usually stay on property or rent a condo) and one of the available options is to add on pool heat. This is the same week that we always go, so I KNOW that it will be hot/humid enough for the pool, but I am not sure when pool heat is really needed. Thoughts? Thanks!

Pool heat is recommended October-March. Since you are borderline I would ask if you can make the decision once you arrive and feel the temp of the water. If it was a hot September with a South facing pool you may not need it at all, if its North facing you probably will. Plus if there is a resort pool that will be heated.

Keep in mind that if you decide after you arrive, and the heat is needed, it takes 24 or 48 hours for the pool water to get up to temperature. YMMV depending on whether prior renter had the heat on, size of pool, quality of heater, etc...

It'll probably depend on how the pool's exposure. Truly. If it doesn't get any afternoon sun, then I'd pay to heat it. If it does, I'd wait and see what the weather is during your stay.

Unless September this year is really weird weatherwise you will not need heat. The water won't cool down because our evenings remain in the mid to upper 70's. You'll probably want ice cubes.:rotfl:

We rented in Windsor Hills in weeks bordering September and October 2012. While it was hot and very humid outside the pool temp was too cool to enjoy for very long without heat.

I like my pools warm. We were there last July and I wished I would have had the heat! For some reason it rained every single day we were there and so I am sure that contributed to the cold pool. In fact, one day it rained so hard the pool overflowed!

I agree. I'm actually okay with the pool temp being cool, especially if it's hot and humid outside. However, by that time of year the sun is lower in the horizon and the pool temps may not be what you want without some help -- this will be especially true if you are swimming in the shade or after the sun goes down.

I wouldn't need it at that time of year. If you like to walk into warm water then get it. If you see the pool as a place to cool off then you likely won't need it.
