I have booked a town car for my journey which will be split into 3 parts. I have been told I pay the driver for all 3 journeys when he drops me off at my 1st hotel. Can you tell me if this is normal. Also what % I should tip and do I tip the 1st driver for all 3 journeys or do I tip each driver at the end of each journey.

I never tip for the entire trip at the beginning! If you are splitting it into 3 parts, then you should tip for each leg. I would just figure out what 20% of the total is, and then split that into 3 equal parts..then tip one third on each leg.

I wouldn't divide the tip into thirds. The first driver will be waiting for you at the airport. Will be killing 45 minutes if you take advantage of a "free" grocery stop. I'd give him at least an extra $5, either on top of the 20% total or round down the tip given to the other 2 drivers.

That's what I do. Only tip for what you've actually received. Who knows if you'll even get the same driver for each leg of the trip? Many times we've had the same driver, but a couple of times it was someone different. And if we'd paid for the whole thing to the first driver, we'd have to pay this new one too!
