I have this gizmo called a pacback, I got it from onestepahead... it straps to any size carseat and turns the carseat into a backpack. I've carried my daughter's roundabout and later her frontier (super heavy!!) through the airport with one (many times... she's flown 35 times or so...) and it works wonders! Makes it so much easier to have your hands free, and is quick to remove to use the seat on the plane. The only restriction on the plane when you use your car seat is no exit aisles, and kiddo gets the window... which works for us.

I can see why your cares thing didn't work for you... its not the same as a car seat. Kids know to stay in those, and the cares thing is a novelty!

Buy a cosco scenera, or other inexpensive seat, leave it in the manufacturers packaging (made to handle shipping) and check it. No taking the seat on the plane, no hauling it through an airport to make your next flight and you have a seat you know is acceptable for use at your destination.

The Scenera is great for travel. Whether she does what you suggest, or what the poster below suggests, it's perfect. It's lightweight and not a hassle to travel with. In fact, we brought the Scenera when my daughter was 3, specifically for a trip to Disneyland!
