We have booked to use Sunray transportation next week, but I have no idea how much to tip the driver.:confused3

As i am not used to tipping at home, I want to make sure that I tip the driver appropriately.

Do you tip per bag/ per person.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks:upsidedow

On Town Cars, it's generally 20% of the round trip fee. Just in case you get a different driver for the return trip, I would tip half when dropped off, then half when you get picked up.

Thanks clkelley,

We actually have 3 transfers booked with them.
airport-universal-disney-airport for a total of $120.

Would $10-$12 for each leg be reasonable??

Thanks for your help!:cheer2:

Quite reasonable IMHO. If you've got a lot of luggage or any of the bags are heavy, I'd tend towards the higher of the two.

A lot should depend on what type service the driver provides you with. You don't have to tip them a dime if they act like like Dumbo and drive you to a resort and than put their hand out for extra money. A tip is not automatic. It is earned and there are some drivers that don't earn 5%. Tip them 20% and they will act the same way for the next passenger. Keep tipping 20% and there will be more ill acting drivers hanging around.

I've used Sunray & tipped $20 or 30 for the 1st leg & either $30 or 40 for the second leg I can't remeber exact. I'm pretty sure it was the higher amount and totaled a $70 tip but they earned it with out a doubt.

Sunray is one of the good transportation companies operating out of Orlando International Airport. They provide what I call service to their passengers. There are several others, but many of the old standards try to survive on the past and cannot produce the service that is needed to survive in the DME era.

And Edd, just how many of these drivers have you had drive you?

I've used six limo/car services in the Central Florida area over the past 15 years with at least 50 trips taken, and have had at least 30 different drivers, and I can honestly say that only once was I not thrilled with the service or safety that was provided.

I'd say that's a pretty good track record, and I'm not sure why you consistently imply that service is often poor with the various car service companies. In my experience, that's far from the truth.

Good if you feel that way. I am stating that there are drivers that do not give the service that deserves a 20% gratuity. There are quite a few of them out there. A 20% tip is exemplary service and that is not present in every ride as the Disboard past reviews have mentioned in the past. I know many drivers I don't consider first class drivers worth a 20% gratuity.

30 drivers may not be that many as there are approximately 375 VFH companies listed on the MCO web site. That probably equates to about 1000 drivers for those companies. Drivers also come and go real fast.

Do you consider a driver asking you to call him and he will meet you on the ground floor of the airport. How many of your drivers have been late to meet you upstairs? How many of your drivers were late when they picked you up at the resort? Do you consider speeding and poor driving a part of the service when you and you family are in the vehicle? Fitting 4 or 5 people in a vehicle and piling luggage on top of them is not good practice. Yelling about taking to much time at the grocery store is uncalled for. Dress and cleanliness is another factor. Does your driver have the right seats for your children and are they clean and up-to-date? Does or did your driver smoke in the vehicle you are riding in? Are you riding in a clean vehicle or is there sand and debris, in excess, on the floor and crumbs in the seat? All these are factors in determination of service. Very few companies live up to those standards.

Original Poster: We use Sunray exclusively. They are always wonderful. We always tip at least 20% and divide that amount in half, giving half to the driver who takes us from the airport to the resort and reserving half for the other leg of the trip, just in case it's a different driver (it never has been).

Thanks everyone for your input.
I will tip 20% if we are happy with the service, if there are any issues I will tip less,
I believe Sunray is a good company and there fore we should not have any issues.:thumbsup2

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Then you must know only the bad ones. Maybe those are the ones you've got driving for your service?

It's a decent sampling. And you still haven't answered my question. How many of them have you actually ever had drive you? My information is first hand. Yours is as usual hearsay, and based on my having firsthand information that some of your prior posts based on hearsay were inaccurate, I tend to discredit much of what you say.

Do you consider a driver asking you to call him and he will meet you on the ground floor of the airport.

Never happened to me.

How many of your drivers have been late to meet you upstairs?

Only one time was a driver late, that was the one I mentioned. "Late" was about five minutes, and while unacceptable, it was not enough to make a difference or cause us to miss a flight, etc.

How many of your drivers were late when they picked you up at the resort?

Never.

Do you consider speeding and poor driving a part of the service when you and you family are in the vehicle?

Never had a driver drive more than a couple mph over the speed limit--which I don't consider "speeding."

Fitting 4 or 5 people in a vehicle and piling luggage on top of them is not good practice.

Never happened to us.

Yelling about taking to much time at the grocery store is uncalled for.

We've always been told to take our time.

Dress and cleanliness is another factor.

Our drivers have always been clean and well groomed and wearing either dress slacks with a shirt and tie, or chinos with a golf shirt bearing the companies logo. Either is appropriate IMHO.

Does your driver have the right seats for your children and are they clean and up-to-date?

We only needed a car seat once, and it looked brand new.

Does or did your driver smoke in the vehicle you are riding in?

Not only have we never had a driver smoke in the vehicle while we were in it, but we've never gotten into a vehicle that smelled like it had been smoked in. (And I have a very sensitive nose.)

Are you riding in a clean vehicle or is there sand and debris, in excess, on the floor and crumbs in the seat?

Again, only that one time and with the one late driver.

All these are factors in determination of service. Very few companies live up to those standards.

Like I said, you must be hanging with the wrong crowd, because in my experience I've only had any of these things happen in under 2% of the car service/limo rides I've taken. I could tell you a horror story about a car service in Winnipeg, and I reported them to the TLC. I'd do the same if I had a problem with a service in Orlando,

Sunray has a very good reputation and they are first class. You won't be disappointed.
