ToWL-why can't room key be enough

I think it's a pain to leave your room and go down to first floor to get escorted just to go back to top floor to a lounge that was half empty anyway even week after Xmas!

I think part of it is Disney wanting to keep tabs on how many members use the lounge vs. how much revenue the bar brings in up there.

I agree, we just got back and weren't sure if we would need to show the room key or blue dvc card and went back to the room to get the card to show them at the lobby to get escorted to go back upstairs. Even the kids said there should be a system that the keys either allow or not allow access like club level entrance to the floor from the elevator and into the lounge, just as they do at other hotels where you have to insert your key into elevator to gain access and then at the lounge.
