Can you walk through the ride but not get on the elevators??

I heard you could but I wanted to know if anyone has bowed out?

I am the biggest chicken on earth, and I have gone all the way through the line at ToT and never, ever ridden. There is a separate elevator that will take you to a waiting area. You can meet up with your party there after they ride. DS told me that once because he really wanted me to walk through to see the hotel, and I didn't believe him. I thought he was tricking me into riding the thing like he did with Splash Mountain. I asked a CM who assured me that I didn't have to ride.

Hi Shoppie,

You can get in the line for the tower of terror and you do get to see some cool stuff a long the way to the ride. Once you get up to the boarding area and you decide that you do not want to go on it, there is what they call the chicken line( at least thats what I call it). Just let a cast member know that you do not want to ride the ride and they will show you where to go to get out.

On my first trip to Disney World in 2000, my dad made me go on it( he made a deal with me, that if I went on it he would buy me one of those Mickey Mouse T-shirts that says- I SURVIED! So I went on it and screamed my head off, I was so scared to be on it. The 2nd time that I went on it was in 2003 and it was some what better. It when have been a lot better if the ride did not get stuck! We all had to wait for some one to come let us out and then take a regular elevator back down. Then once we go back down you could get right back on the ride again if you wanted too(and we did). I don't mean to scare anyone, all of Disney's rides are very safe( and thats what the cast member told us while he was get us out of the ride).

I went on ToT last week. There was a group of teens ahead of me (Pop Warner I assume) and this one kid just did not want to go on. His friends kept encouraging him to do it but when he got to the front of the line he chickened out and the cm escorted him to the "regular" elevator. The regular elevator is in the center of the boiler room, on the same side as the ride elevators.

Don't chicken out! Please ride the TOT. You will love it. Disney would never put you on a ride that would hurt you.:teeth:

I have low back and leg problems and I am a little concerned about the falling and stopping parts of the ride - does it hurt??

I personally don't find TOT to be jarring. It's actually pretty smooth. I for one HATE this ride. However, I usually go on it every trip, and I get off swearing it's the last time each time!! I do find it to be really smooth though.

I have a very weak stomach, and I have never had a problem on TOT. It's really not that bad. It's hard to explain but the large size of the elevator your in, coupled with the fact that you are basically in a cage (you can't fall out the window, unless you REALLY tried...) with a lap bar makes the whole thing go alot smoother than you'd think.

Remember a lot at Disney is illusion. You feel like you are in a lot more danger than you are in.

I know people with bad backs who have gone on and not had a problem either.

But in the end, it's up to you. It's such a neat ride though, I'd feel bad for anyone who doesn't get to experience it all.

Hi,
Did anyone else notice how they slightly changed the story of TOT? I went on it earlier this month after having been gone 6 years. It used to say something about the 13 floor mysteriously disappear so the elevator went from floor 11 to 12 to 14. Maybe my memory is incorrect, but didn't that used to occur???

I don't know about the ride story line, but I think the story line of the movie went something like that.

We just got back from WDW on Tuesday, and did ToT twice. They did change the story line, and also the ride itself. Every ride is different; they've randomized the fall sequences so you never know how many times you'll be taken up and dropped. We were dropped about 5 times on each ride, but both were different. Also, each elevator has a different story. They've also gotten rid of the lap bar and replaced it with individual seatbelts. I loved the ride before, but now I think it's absolutely fantastic.

Are you sitting during this ride? I guess I assumed you rode standing. After an unpleasent ride in our city hall's elevator, I guess I am a bit nervous...

Yes, you are sitting. There's four rows, I believe, with about 8 people in each row. I love this ride, and my 6 year old can't wait to get to MGM each trip, as this is her most favorite ride. She squeals when she sees the billboard for it!

Ok, been to WDW 2times and have chickened out each time. My DS(10) really wants to ride this. I hate even riding in an elevator at the mall, hotel, etc.........could I do this? Anyone else like me that has done it? At least when we go next, I can let him ride it as I duck out at the last minute.:faint:

Have you ever done like the parachute drops (Great Gasp, I think) at Six Flags? It's a similar feel, except you're in the "elevator" instead of out in the open. And, you're dropped several times, instead of just the one. But, if you don't like normal elevators, I'm not sure how you would feel about it. My dad is scared of heights but doesn't mind this ride since he can't see how high up he is.

Yes, I have done parachute drops. I just keep my eyes closed. I guess I lived through those, so......here I go.

Well, I'm one of those "fraidy cats," who was always scared to ride Tower of Terror, but this time, I made my mind up before we went that I was going on ToT no matter what. And . . .

I loved it!

The first time we went, they had "technical difficulties" while we were waiting in line, but they gave us fast passes that were good for the rest of the day.

Have you ever driven on a country road and gotten a funny/tickling sorta feeling in the pit of your stomach when your car went over a hill? Well, that's the feeling I got on the very first drop. After that, I didn't feel much of anything at all, and I can't wait to go again. I don't know what in the world I was frightened of. Even my five-year-old grandson, who was nervous all the way through the line, ended up laughing and having a great time.

Try it once. I think you'll like it, too.

Pat
