I have a couple questions about TOT at MGM. :Pinkbounc
1) If you've been to DCA, how similar is the one in MGM to that? I was there about a month ago. :sunny:
2) Is there a Twilight Zone episode with the storyline or something? I saw something a DVD of some kind, in the TOT gift shop in DCA, but didn't look further than the price tag. :confused3 I would like to buy the show/episode/movie or whatever if I can.
3) How high does TOT go up and drop (max-as I know its randomly programmed)?
Thanks! :wave2:

Okay DisGirl, here's the lowdown on ToT

1. DCA is slightly different. It doesn't mess around with the moving forward (slightly winding) that WDW does. Also, there cool special effect where the riders turn into ghost and then disappear isn't at WDW.
2. I think you might be talking about the Tower of Terror movie starring Steven Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst. It's losely based on the ride.
3. I think the tower at MGM is just under 200'. The ride is a little short of that. Max. drops? The most I've noticed is 5.

Does this help?

The MGM version is considered superior to it's DCA counterpart.
The DVD you saw was probably the movie which I believe was on the Disney Channel. It stars Kirsten Dunst and is alright if you don't expect much from it going in.. As far as the drop, I believe it's 13 stories but I could be wrong if somebody wants to correct me.

The one in MGM Studios has a much more interesting "first part" of the ride (there is an "extra room" where the elevator LEAVES the SHAFT!)

The rides are randomly programmed. Drops change from ride-to-ride.
And there are always SEVERAL drops per ride.

The "Tower of Terror" movie (on the DVD is a made-for-TV "film" starring Steve Guttenburg that was made to promote the opening of the ride in WDW.

It ran on ABC Wonderful World of Disney and/or the Disney Channel.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0131620/
Its not very good, regardless.

There is no "real" Twilight Zone episode that relates to the Disney rides.
The Rod Serling intro is "doctored" to fit the ride.

:wave2: Thanks for all the great info!
I did see that movie for sale on Amazon but thought it looked a bit cheesy. :happytv:
That is too bad about the cool effect in the mirror not being there for MGM, I really enjoyed waving to my "ghost" before we dropped.

So, still wondering...how high is the actual drop, I know the building is 199' so that it doesn't have a light for planes (has to have at 200') but I swear the drop in DCA is not as far as it appears from the outside of the building. Is this the same at MGM?
Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Since the drops are varied with the programming, there is no clear answer.

The 'vators don't go "all the way up" and then drop "all the way down" anyway.

If I told you one drop was 110 feet and another was 80 feet, would you know the difference... in the dark... and at various drop speeds... (and lots of "wiggles and shakes" of the 'vators) with each ride?

Its just a VERY FUN ride with lots of visual, audio, motion and wind effects... some of which you will experience, and some you won't in various successive rides.

i would like to point out that authentic twilight zone artfacts from the classic episodes are scattered inside the libraries as well at the end of the elevator shafts just before you get off the ride.
