I've heard that the Tower of Terror is now "scarier"...is this true? My daughter went on it when she was 8 - three years ago - and loved it. Now that we have moved back to FL and are going to Disney again (yea!!!) her little sister, who is now 8, wants to ride it as well. I've heard that with the random drops and strobe lights that it's much more intense...anyone else's take on this?

BUMP! I rode in 98 and have been too scared to get back on for this exact reason! :scared1:

it's only "scarier" because you can ride it several times and never get the same drop sequence. Different drop heights, different timing, etc. It's Awesome!

They changed the programming on Tower of Terror a few years ago so there are now four sequences. The computer decides which one of the four you will get when you ride. I did not ride it before the changes because I was a big CHICKEN. Now it is my favorite ride in the world (not just WDW). We rode it 24 times last month (with my 15 yr old DS). I will let others with more knowlege give you better info about how it compares to the previous ride.

Never rode it until this year, but loved it. I rode with my ds12 and neither of us thought it was all too scary. Can't give you a comparison though....

I think it depends on the child really.

My son loved it at 9 years old but my daughter at 7 came off and cryed none stop for an hour, the thought of it set her off again. My son wants to go back on in November my daughter well i will take her some where else.

I must admit i like fast and scarey rides but this one made me come off feeling abit worse for wear, if you know what i mean.

My DD8 hated it because of the near total darkness on the drops. Personally i think the ride is a bit tamer because of the selt belts instead of lap bar, but the unknown number of drops does add a certain element of suprise. Of course when we rode it in June with my duaghter and mom hating it, we got the 6 drop sequence. That many drops with an 8 yr old digging her nails into 1 arm and a terified mom digging her nails in the other makes any ride terrifying

Our 6 DD loved it - rode it 3 times and wanted to ride it more on our last trip. She rode every "scary" ride at least twice and was fine. But it probably does depend on your child and you know the limits. We explained every ride to the kids and told them what to expect. They were fine!

Good luck!!!

Our DD then 8, rode it in 2004 and loved it, then immmediately said she would never do it again (once the adrenaline subsided, I think!). So for our last trip, she said, nope, never goin' back.

In June we went back, and DD now 9 suddenly decided she didn't want to miss it. We rode at night (added to the drama!) and we got the sequence with the six drops (felt like more!). Just when we thought it was over WHOOOSH! We went up and down again. She LOVED it.

One important detail though -- I explained to DD that you aren't actually dropping, but being pulled down faster than gravity. So she realized that the ride vehicle really is like a VERY FAST elevator rather than a drop that they can't control. That helped ease her mind. She had a great time!

My 8 year old rode it last week, and she came off laughing...me and my 13 year old son took the chicken exit. :rotfl2:
