Tower of Terror possible Marvel Makeover?

I understand what you are saying, but the difference is the Star Wars overlay to space mountain and adding jack sparrow to PotC made sense thematically. Turning ToT into a marvel ride would require more than an overlay to pull off thematically, it would require an entire redo of everything but the ride system.....exterior, interior queue, ride visuals and music, etc. if they didn't go all out like this, it would be like adding Edward scissorhands Johnny depp to PotC.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that to many people, their favorite rides at Disney are sacred to them and any kind of change, whether small or big, is going to get a reaction. I personally love the tower of terror as is and would be sad to see it changed. But that's what Disney does. It's an ever changing park.

There really are no words. And I am not just saying this because I didn't enjoy GOTG but because....bye. Honestly, this is so wrong. Not to mention it's already its own branded attraction with exclusive merchandise. Has it's own cult following. Not to mention it is one of the absolute best themed attractions on property.

Not to mention, is there not a NEW movie currently in the works based on the Tower of Terror? Now, lets say they wanted to end the CBS contract and remove Twilight Zone? Or the new movie was extremely popular? Then I can see a tweaked overlay based on that. However the overall theme and core of the attraction would stay in tact. All the merchandise for ToT, including the first movie itself and the attractions placement in some other parks, are all missing the Twilight Zone but still keep to the core. Guardians of the Galaxy though? Are they REALLY trying to hurt us?(and themselves?). Shameful.

Even though many of us were upset over Maelstrom, lets be honest, it was not under the same umbrella nor as popular. Most "regular" visitors probably skipped over it so Frozen I hate to say it, probably to some made sense. But this? A universally loved iconic themed attraction? Which also happens to be one of the most popular on property and across the world in the different parks? NO, I refuse to believe this for either DL or WDW. If this were to ever be, I hope everyone would work together to contest it and now allow this to happen. There would definitely be more of an outcry for this over Maelstrom.

I agree with what others have said - while my DD was like "what's this twilight zone business?" - she clearly did not care when I explained it to her - because it's an old tv show did not change the appeal of the ride. She loves that ride now and didn't always. I know my DH would not really care - he just likes the drops. And honestly the story can get old - what I think would be neat is if they changed it - that there was a rotation of scenes that you saw as part of the ride - as let's be honest it's not a long ride - it seems like before you know it you are being pulled back in to exit.

If they had different clips that would make it more like a box of chocolates kind of ride.

Still I also agree with another PP - it's not if they change it, it's how they change it - if they do a good job then that makes all the difference in the world.

I just hope it's not down for refurbishment next time we are there if they are doing such a change.

Of course this is only a rumor so not sure if it's freak out worthy just yet.

It does seem very strange. On the one hand I do think DCA's TOT is lacking something and I've long thought it needed some enhancements, but this is just weird. I'm not familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy so I don't know how a thematic change would alter the ride.

I love Guardians of the Galaxy, but I would HATE if they rethemed TOT.

Totally agree!

Another great thing about ToT is when the bell hops stay in character. So cool! It would really suck for it to be re-themed.

And as a previous poster said about POTC, the addition of Sparrow, Barbosa, etc. make sense because, well, Disney based the movies on the attraction!

"The storyline would be based on a visit to the Collector’s mansion from the movie."

That doesn't make much sense to me. From memory, the Collector lived in more of a space-age / science fiction warehouse of some kind. As opposed to a fancy hotel / mansion with many trappings of old human / Earth luxuries.

While the line for the ride could be interesting if you're moving past all sorts of exhibits from the Marvel universe, including the Infinity Gems, Thor's hammer, Howard the Duck, etc. I'm not quite sure how it works with the Collector. Even the ride mechanics would be odd - why would we see a view of Earth's sky?

I'm hoping this is just a crazy rumour that won't actually happen. I think the thing that would irk me if this was true is the amount of money that would be spent to change the ride. This money could be put towards something else like a brand new ride. There is nothing wrong with TOT, it's still popular, it's not "falling a part" or outdated. Seems like a waste of money to me! I like guardians of the galaxy, and marvel, so why not bring it into the parks with new attractions fans can get excited about.

Another marvel ride would fit in well at Universal Studios or Magic Mountain but not so much at Disney. It would cheapen the park in my opinion.
HTT is a great ride with fantastic theming throughout.

Just playing along with "what if", at first I felt very against the idea of a complete overhaul of the ToT, as it's one of my favorite rides. The theming is amazing and the Cast Members are among the most entertaining in the parks. But then as I thought about it, I realized that I'm a fan because it's an excellent ride...and not because it involves The Twilight Zone, meaning I never fell in love with it *because* it was The Twilight Zone themed.

I would miss the Hollywood Tower Hotel because it's been a favorite destination for many years, but I have seen Disney work spectacular magic and if they did it again, I could have a lot of great new memories with a totally revamped tower. And I don't even know what Guardians of the Galaxy are..is...they...whatever. Just give me a great experience!

That sounds awful. I like Marvel, but I'm satisfied with what IOA has to offer at Universal Orlando. I really like TOT the way it is!

Universal can't make Marvel rides in CA as Disney owns Marvel. And Six Flags has DC comic characters not Marvel.

I would hate to see this happen. ToT is my absolute favorite ride (especially the one at DHS...I'm an east coaster). The theming is so detailed from beginning to end, including the cast members who invite you into the library and the ones who load you into your elevator.

Regardless of who owns the rights I don't think it's appropriate for Disney. Disney's best attractions are the ones Disney created all on there own.

Okay let me just say for those who haven't seen Guardians you are missing out! Love that movie and you should check it out ASAP! That being said I don't see how that theme would fit for this ride... But if they are planning on revamping that entire area of the park into a Marvel themed land then obviously they would also have to re-theme the ride. I wonder where exactly they would be planning on this land though since if I remember correctly there isn't much of anything in that area let alone any room...

I see the point of them wanting to add more Marvel in as it's very popular and would probably be a cash cow for them just like Star Wars

Well the Twilight Zone isn't owned by Disney. Nor was Indiana Jones when IJA opened.

Disney created Pirates and Space Mountain and they are the best rides at disneyland. Disney should put its mind and money to work on creating great things as opposed to buying other people's ideas.

I definitely don't think Space Mtn is one of the best 2 rides at Disneyland. I bet people would rank IJA above it. And lots of people think Hyperspace Mtn is a huge improvement over the original.

I love Space Mountain and prefer the original to Hyperspace, but I don't particularly care which one it is as it's less 'themed' outside of it being a space adventure. I mean, you could redo it any number of ways that would tie in to that. My fear with ToT is that the theme of Old Hollywood would go away. That's my favorite part of it!! I would hope that they could do Marvel stuff around it and leave ToT as is as part of Buena Vista Street, Hyperion and Old Hollywood.
