Tower of Terror: How bad??

i will literally ride anything, love thrill rides but i dont like TOT :scared1:. ive ridden it more than once to see if it was just the 1st time "shock" of it but its really not i just dont like the drop. however the FANTASTIC job that disney does with the theming, the acting with the CM's before and the story during the ride up until the actual drop keeps me going back for more. call me crazy but i ride it just so i can see all that then when it comes to the drop i scream my heart out n crush whichever poor persons hand is next to me (im that person that people laugh at when getting off the ride .) id ride it once, youll never know until you try :thumbsup2

I'm in the 40 something crowd. I do most coasters in themeparks, but don't do those drop rides where you're just sitting on a bench looking down.

In 2008, DS (then 10), wanted me to ride TOT, but I chickened out. In 2009, he and I did a trip by ourselves and I promised him I'd ride it once. We went early (right after the TSM mele), so I could get it overwith. Afterward, I was like "I can't believe I was afraid of that", it was so much fun, I wanted to ride again, but the line had grown.

I am very claustrophobic, but it felt rather open, so that wasn't an issue, until this December, when I went with BFF. She wanted to ride it at night. It was pretty dark and I felt very closed in and was having alot of anxiety during the ride. I just screamed alot until it was over.

Honestly, just give it a try once, when there's not a long wait to get yourself all worked up.

I tried it about 3 years ago. I am a huge ride chicken! I hated it. I am glad I tried it, but I just couldn't handle that 'free fall' feeling. I wish I could go back on it, cause I don't really remember the pre-show, I was so scared. Oh and I took a klonopin beforehand too.

BUT! You should try it at least once. You might like it!

Lisa,
I was on the Illuminations Cruise with you on Dec. 12 with my elderly mom and we were talking about this exact thing! I'm 53 and could never get up the nerve to ride ToT. The other passengers convinced me that it wasn't that bad...guess what? It really wasn't. Rock and Roller Coaster is much more intense and I love that. ToT was fun. The drops I experienced didn't seem to be much more than 5 stories or so (honestly I couldn't say for sure). I was doing my usual "should I?" and my 83 year old mother said "just go face your fears and do it". Shamed into it by a woman in her 80s. I texted my two teen-aged boys as soon as I got off and my 18 year old in college texted back immediately and wanted to know how it was.
As someone else who wanted to but never could bring herself to ride it...do it! It's not as scary as you are imagining.

ToT is perhaps my favorite ride in the World. By comparison, I have ridden Power Tower at Cedar Point many times, and it is quite scary by comparison even though they are similar heights (240' for PT, ~190' for Tot). For me, the falling part is quite fun, it's the going up and hanging ther epart that is scary and on ToT you are inside during those parts. Plus, on ToT you are in a big "elevator car" on a bench instead of on a bike seat! :)

Kevin: Cedar Point's Power Tower and Tower of Terror are my very two favorite drop rides (Cedar Point for the great view and how big the drop is -- the little drops at other amusement parks pale in comparison) and Tower of Terror for its outstanding theming. I think Tot and One Man's Dream are my two favorite attractions in all of Disney.

Whether to try Tot or not: Do you like the drop feeling? If you haven't tried a drop ride before, do you like a first big smooth hill that drops on a coaster? If you enjoy that sensation, it would propably be worth it to try Tot. If you're thinking, "No that drop sensation is not my favorite." skip this ride. There are so many other fun things to do at the parks.

I love these (I'm 50). My brother loves these. (He's 48). My mom loves these (She's 74.). My husband avoids these. (He's 56.) My dad avoids these. (He's 74.) My son likes all the coasters and the drop sensation on these, so tried the drop rides. He personally, though, isn't all that fond of the drop rides, but loves to do the coasters over and over (especially the fast ones at Cedar Point). (He's 15.)

I'm a 61 year old female. I will not do many roller coasters, including RnRC but I love ToT. I laugh all the way thru the drops.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

How many times do you drop? I have watched from the ground and it seems like the windows open 2 or 3 times in rapid sucession.

The number of drops vary, but not by much, usually 2-4 drops per ride.

And if anyone has reservations, the drops are over before you know it. It's a fun ride!

Wow now I have to ride on my 27th b-day this b-day I will be on the dream
