My son, who will be almost 5 when we head to DisneyWorld in January, is tall enough to ride the Tower of Terror, but should he? He loves rides and so far has not been scared of anything he's ever ridden. He will ride anything he's tall enough for and I know when he sees this ride he will want to do it. Do you think this ride would be too much for him though? This summer he went on a 3 story drop ride and loved it, but I know ToT is much higher. Neither my husband or I have ever been on it, so we don't know what it's really like.

I don't care to ride it, but that's another story!! (I will because it would make my husband sick to ride, but I'm not a fan of drops.)

Should I tell him he's not tall enough or let him try it?

I took my then 2 and 4 year olds on it a couple of years ago and they didn't mind the drop at all but the dark parts freaked them out a little.:confused3 They both say they can't wait to ride it again in December. I say if he is a daredevil, he'll like it.

One of you should... THEN decide for your child.

It is designed and themed to be make guests feel "scared."

I agree with Robo, you should try it first before you attempt it with your little one. My DD was 4 when she went on it the first time and loves it. She giggled the whole way out. I was about to toss my cookies and she was giggling.

My DD was 4 the first time and really liked it, but I agree with the others that you should ride it first to see what you think.

Is there a height requirement for this ride? I can't find one.

I believe it's 40"

We took DS this year at almost 4. He LOVED the drop. He hated the part where the lightening strikes the hotel :) He kept saying "I hate that shhhhhshhshsh" part

Yes, one of you should check it out first. You don't drop top to bottom, there are multiple stops and direction changes, with spooky stuff at different "floors" to see. He certainly shouldn't ride it alone, so one or both of you will have to bite the bullet, anyway.

I normally don't do that type of ride, but TOT isn't bad. My two oldest DGDs have riden TOT as soon as they reached the height requirement. They both love rides...especially the younger one. She'd scream bloody murder if she didn't meet the ride requirements.

One of us would definitely ride it with him (but neither of us wants to)!

We've only done TOT at DCA, and they are similar (with some differences).

That's exactly the reaction that my then 4 year old had. He's now over 5 and still won't go on, because he doesn't like the effects that happen. I don't know if it's the same at WDW, but in the DCA version the lightening effect makes the mirror image of everyone in the elevator turn blue then disappear, and he still, somehow, thinks we disappeared.

The ups and downs were just fine. But the disappearing and the shhhhhssshhhsshsh part were not OK with him. At 4.

Make the deal, then... One of you check it out first, the other ride with him if it's judged okay, and he wants to go after whoever goes first tells him what to expect. Fair's fair!

My five year old and three year old sons went last week. It scared both of them.

But... by the end of the week both were willing to try again. We suggested it several times but didn't pressure them to do it. The little one kept his eyes open the second time. Both are very brave.

BTW, the five year old said "I love the up and down part, but the other parts were scary" meaning the Twilight Zone movie and the hallway stuff.

No offense, but this isn't entirely true. The computer program ToT uses makes the rides completely random, its different every time. Ive been on it with mult short drops, as well as mult long drops from top to bottom. There's no way to tell.

TOT is my all time fav ride and I'm looking forward to sharing it with my DS, because I'm pretty sure he will be tall enough by our trip. What I have been doing to prepare him for the scary parts, is to let him watch it on youtube. There are some great clips out there. So maybe check that out too.

Yup.

That's what I mean by it being "designed to be scary."

The drops are only a part of the experience of this complex and popular attraction.

If he wants to heck yeah. My DD 5 loved it still loves it at 17! Last time I went a little girl no more than 4 was next to me with her slightly older sister (Dad was behind with another child) and they did fine.

I would just all go on together rather than use all the time it would take to do it 2 times. I think it is really neat when everyone gets to go on a ride that no one has ever gone on before, you all could enjoy the anticipation of the unknown.

No offense taken at all, thanks for the correction. The twice I rode it were pretty much the same, multiple short drops rather than any big ones.
