Tower of Terror first timer...?'s

This past August I tried ToT for the first time. It. Was. AWESOME!!! I don't usually like thrill rides, but I was on a solo trip and tried to do rides my family won't ride. I was nervous at first, but I'm glad I did FP+ for it otherwise I may have skipped it. I am so glad I didn't. I thought it was just a straight drop down, but it went up and down several times - and every time it went back up, I couldn't stop laughing! I don't know why. I was laughing and screaming the entire time. Loved it and highly recommend you give it a try!

I'll be the lone dissenter. I hate this ride. I'm not scared of heights or anything. I actually love the outside rides that go up and drop you, but I hate ToT. It is physically painful to me. I think it's because the strap just goes across your waist instead of over your shoulders. Every time it drops and drags you down, which it does since it technically "falls" faster than gravity, the belt just hurts my stomach. I remember being almost in tears when I rode this because it hurt so bad. I don't know maybe I just break easy or something because I've never heard anyone else say it hurt them, but it definitely hurts me. It's just my luck that all 3 kids think this ride is the only one worth doing at HS. They rode it 13 times in row. 13 trips up and then down the service elevator for me before I was finally able to convince them to go do something else. I think it's their favorite Disney ride of all the parks.

~I love ToT, but it's a love-hate relationship. :rotfl: I hate the drops, but once it's over I'm so happy and want to go again -- on our next vacation, that is.

~Anyway, ToT doesn't drop all the way down, it stops midway and your picture will be taken after the first drop but not until the elevator climbs back to the top and begins to drop again. My hair is always in the air, so it has to be when the elevator starts to descend. Have fun. :cool1:

The same is true for Space Mountain. Got to ride it with the lights on as part of a YES class. It is simply a mad mouse ride, and is actually pretty slow. Lame.

But it didn't ruin the ride for me.
I figured that was the case for space mountain. I'm just going to pretend I didn't hear that and continue to enjoy space mountain with the lights off! :cool1:
Thanks everyone!
Funny thing is, years ago, maybe when I was 15 I rode one of these drop rides, only it was outside, like Dr Dooms Fear Fall and I think that is worse but for some reason I decided not to ride ToT.....lol, my mother did and enjoyed it but would never go on Dr Dooms. I think I'm definitely going to give it a try.
It seems one thing is the same on the ride......that they always open the door and then you drop first? after that things can change between rides.
This past trip I went on Dr. Dooms and ToT. I really didn't care for the huge jerk at the beginning of Dr. Dooms. I'm 22 years old yet it somehow managed to mess up my back and it was aching for the next couple of days. Tower of Terror just has a great theme behind it and I have never felt awkward jolts that could mess with me. It has a small transition (if that makes sense) before taking off that sort of makes the jolt easier on you.

I too have a love-hate relationship with this ride.

We rode it in 2010 for the first time ever. My DS was 7. his legs were flying all over. It was great. He is 10 now and he laughs and says he will not ride it again. But, secretly I think he will. This time we will take DD8 on it for the first time. Parents of the year... right here!

The worst part for me was rising up. I didn't like the "pressure" feeling on/in my head. Not sure which one, but I didn't like that feeling.

We watch the Tower of Terror movie all the time. My kids are excited to look for Sally.

I can't find the movie! We watched it years ago but can't find it now. Is it on DVD?

It is on DVD, and I saw it at Walmart around Halloween, but they do have it for sale in the ToT gift shop. We had to buy it because the kids loved it so much. They really enjoyed watching the movie. It made the ride mean more to them. They got really excited to go back another day and find all the same little things that are in the movie.

You may be able to find it around Halloween time. I got ours at Target, where they have the halloween set up in the back of the store. I want to say it was on an end cap.

Yes they open the doors before you drop. I am deathly afraid of heights, but wanted to try TOT. I hate roller coasters and feeling out of control. I couldn't even tell when we went up the tower. I rode it for the first time in August. Now granted I immediately closed my eyes when they opened the doors, it wasn't that bad because we didn't make full drops I felt like Tigger bouncing up and down. The 2nd time I rode it that same week I still closed my eyes it was a little scarier as we did at least 2 full drops that was a little crazy, but really it became my favorite ride. I say give it a try once!
