Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

I
On top of that, I have been really hungry so I am not sure I am eating enough to fuel the workouts.

Very frustrated!!!

"Increase the protein and fat" was the answer for me! (good proteins, GOOD fats)

Can't remember if you were trying to drop weight or not. I was, and I had to change my goal weight because I just couldn't eat to keep losing when SO close to goal while also running longer. So I'm still above my ultimate goal, but it's worth it to stay healthy and strong.

I am trying to drop weight. And, I stalled for 2 months. I haven't weighed myself this month yet (only do once a month) but I seem to be dropping again. I can't eat much cleaner. No dairy, no gluten. Only fruits and veggies, eggs for breakfast, turkey or chicken for lunch and dinner. If I am way low on calories I might have a cookie once a week but usually not as I feel guilty even after one (whereas I used to eat a 1/2 a box in a day).

I only use olive oil in my cooking, no butter, margarine, etc...

I will try increasing the protien and see what happens. Just so frustrating.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Gonna brag on here for a second. Did a 5k today and came in 8th in my age group (20-29). That will never ever happen again. It was a small race but I'm still super proud. Also came in 47/140!

Thanks guys! Got me super excited for the ToT because my friends and I are at a pace were at for the princess, so I'm hoping that I can drop my pace still to PR this... But know the heat and humidity will probably ruin all those chances :lmao: either way I will still have fun!

Great job on the race. I have convinced myself we will get a cold front for the race. It is going to be in the 60's with no humidity and a slight breeze. :) So everyone will be able to do a PR. Not that it matters, that's what the conditions were like Saturday for my run and I was still dripping sweat and had to ring out my head band mid run.

I may have asked this before but nobody seems to answer me when I ask it for some reason. Where in MA are you from?

Haha I'm hoping you're right! And I'm from the north suburbs! About 11 miles north of boston on the wonderful 93 :)

Come on people. I know Summer is almost here and it's starting to warm up and running will probably drop off, but we are only a little over 4 months away from the ToT. WOW. October seems so far away, it kinda hit me like a ton of bricks when I just realized it was only 4 months away.

See ya, gotta go run!!!

Sorry to crash your party... but my DH and I are considering running the Tower of Terror 10 miler in 2015. Anyone know if any threads have been started for 2015 or any planning groups on facebook. I know that's really far away, but this thread seems to have been started in 2013 so I thought maybe there was one already made. I'm new to running and new to planning for a run disney event so just looking for some people to plan along with me.

Thanks!!!

Anyone taking their kids to the kids race that morning? I'm getting into this running business too late to sign up, but we are planning a trip 10/3 - 10/11.

I thought it might be fun to have my son do the kids activities, since it happens to be going on while we're there. It's definitely something we don't usually have the opportunity to do (he'll be 8, so the 400m dash).

I'd be interested in any input on past experiences!

My DS11 is running the 5k and my DS6 will be doing the kids races. Just be forewarned: you need to allow plenty of time to get to the races. So that may involve an early wake up call

Thanks for the heads up! We're staying at CBR, which happens to be a host resort, so at least we'd have relatively easy access to Disney transportation... even if it's not always the quickest.

The biggest problem I see is packet pick-up, since our flight is currently scheduled for later on Friday. We won't arrive in time to get to the Expo Friday night, and there wouldn't be time Saturday to get it before the race. Would have to move up our flight, which would mean pulling him from school Friday.

So I guess I need to figure out if it's worth the reorganization and missed school in order to have him participate.

I apologize in advance. I will post this to various threads I am sub'd to. So if you see this more than once... :flower3:

Anyway, who doesn't love a deal? So while it does not work for me I thought it might for some. There is a seriously deal on a couple of the brooks pure line here

The two shoes (flow and cadence) are both from the "2" line. The pure flows are just $39.95. Shipping I think is free. The Cadence is just $10 more. I did wear the 1's and now the 3's (2's didn't work - gave me blisters) Makes me wonder though if for $40 I shouldn't try to make them work.

Hope it works for someone. :goodvibes

We have done the kids races. 2 years ago we were not able to get to packet pickup before the kids race. The expo doesn't open before the kids races started (and the line was really long at open), but we could pick up their bib numbers outside at the race start.

It did feel a little unorganized that day and it was very chaotic for us to juggle the two kids start lines, start times, and me wanting to take pictures of them both running. For example - first they told us younger kids would go first, then older ones ended up going first. My DH stayed with our then 2 year old and my then 6 year old was watched by another parent at his starting line while I went up ahead to take pictures. (I stayed with him until it was just minutes before the race). When the race was over we went thru the expo and got our packets - the downside was that there were not shirts left in the right sizes - both my kids ended up in ones that fit them for about a month only :)

This year, my kids are signed up again - DS8 is running the mile and DD4 is in her age group. I don't have a great strategy yet for how to get them started and photographed yet but hoping that we will figure it out such that I can see my oldest finish the mile race! He is so excited but will certainly be exhausted when he crosses the finish line as I expect him to sprint from all of the excitement instead of 'run'! *Because he will have a time tagged race we will have to do packet pick up before hand so we are swinging thru on Friday this year to get their packets..

I think that if you can do it without rearranging your trip it would be worth it - call rundisney to ask!

Thank you! I was told at PT I needed more stable shoes so I bought a pair of the Cadence. Hopefully they work! :thumbsup2

So I'm a single mom, and it'll just be me & DS... Is it even feasible for me to manage it on my own, or is it almost a necessity to have multiple adults to not lose track of kids entirely?

For me, I am pretty trusting of my kids and I am not freaked out separating from them. I would not hesitate to leave my 6 year old at the starting line for his race and walk to the finish line 5 minutes before it started. I would have left him even if the other mom (that I met in line) wasnt going to keep an eye on him. If you don't want to leave him at the start line, then stay with him and you will just run/walk behind him with other parents and meet up with him at the finish.

I it's important to establish a meeting place for after the race (pick it out when you get there together) and make sure he knows how to call your cell phone incase you get separated.

I would be totally fine with be kid - but I think you need the kid/parent ratio to be 1:1, 1 adult : 2 kids would be a wreck....

I don't trust many people with my kids but I would trust a volunteer at a runDisney race to keep an eye on my kid while I went to the finish line. But then again, I have 4 kids so if I lose one I still have plenty left over. :thumbsup2 Kidding of course!

In all seriousness though. My wife hasn't wanted to take the kids to Disney because she thinks it is too much work. But, the kids want to go badly. So, I have been thinking when the divorce is final I will take them. It is a concern going to WDW with 4 kids by myself. But, if you set up a plan in case you are separated for some reason, and don't panic if it actually happens, everything will work out fine.
