Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

We're still on the fence about TOT and W&D this year....so excited for all of you who have registered though! Question....I've been looking at the maps and I guess DHS doesn't have any park hotels. It was so nice to walk home from W&D to BWV when we were ready and not have to wait on transportation. Do you guys have any suggestions for walkable hotels from DHS? Or will/can the water taxis take us to the Epcot resorts? Or should we just drive?...although I realize the hassle there with road closures, etc. Yep, we're all about convenience! Thanks in advance! Colleen I know, I know I need a siggy....

I think that the Epcot hotels are also walkable to DHS but it's a little bit of a further walk. I could be wrong but I thought that was the case.

You could walk back to BWV pretty easily. In fact since the villas are on that side, it probably is not much farther to DHS than it is to Epcot (I could be wrong) My plan was to walk back to BWV (doubt I will be able to get BWV for race weekend) The only thing is BWV is not a host resort so getting to the expo will require walking to BCV (which is) or driving.

I have walked betweeen DHS and Epcot more times than I have taken a bus between or a boat. It is much quicker. I am not certain how much further DHS is from BWV than Epcot is... but it is not bad.

Wait- what? I thought Boardwalk was a host resort? Why do I have that wrong? I actually have this as one of my contenders as accommodations because I read that on the RunDisney page- I thought....

I read the following were hosts:
All Stars
Pop
Caribbean
French Quarter
Riverside
Wilderness
Boardwalk
Beach Club
Saratoga
Key West

Could someone please share what the resorts are pretty please? I must have looked in the wrong place...

Omg!!! I am so excited to be wrong! I guess the last time I looked the resorts had not been updated and I assumed it would be same as last year. Thanks for making me take a second look :)

I figured I looked on the wrong page! It would totally be something I would do.... Book a resort and get there.... And then stand around wondering where my race bus was! Hahahahaha!!

Question. So I had already booked CSR for our trip before I decided to register for the run. I'm wondering how difficult transportation will be from the resort to the race and back. Should I consider POR-Riverside? I do like the idea of the possibility of a pull down bed... I was waiting to see if Disney is going to renew the military discount, but I could see what the discount is from the race. This will be our first trip.

That's my plan too. My only worry is that I don't know the quality of the photos my phone takes at night. Does anyone know if there are lights by the character stops or have examples of photos taken with their phones?

I really really recommend bringing a digital or disposable camera instead of using your phone. The cast members try to keep the lines moving really quickly, so that runners don't waste too much time in line, and there have been several times when the cast member accidentally hits a wrong button on the screen, and spends time finding the camera app, etc. It's a lot smoother for everyone when you use a regular camera. (Plus, iPhones are notorious for having poor quality cameras.)

Or travel with a buddy, and either trade memory cards if both cameras use the same one, or just trade cameras for the night. If anyone's down for that and doesn't mind runjogwalking at my pace, I'd be happy to do that. :)

There will be no transportation from a non host resort to race weekend events. So you would need to take a taxi

Boardwalk,Y&B Club and the Swan and Dolphin are all located between Epcot and DHS,a bit closer to Epcot but definitely walkable to DHS.The day of TOT last year I spent the day at Epcot and walked over to DHS for TOT through the Boardwalk.I've done that walk from DHS to Epcot more times than I can remember but that was one of the coolest ones seeing all the runners heading over and hearing the DJ at the DHS parking lot.

And it would be like me to not realize that BWV had been added and walk over to BCV to catch a bus. :lmao:

And this would be why I spend too much time on dis.... if I get others to help me figure out what I need to be doing.

Thanks for making me look again at what resorts were hosts!!! :thumbsup2

All of these are good points, but I just want to mention my own experience at the PHM this past weekend. I carried a camera, but through poor planning, found my memory card full less than half way through the race (dumb, I know...) so thankfully I had my iphone and used that for the rest. I had it open to the camera app in every line and didn't have a single problem with the cast member taking the photos....in fact I was really pleased, because unlike with the camera, they took 2 or 3 at every stop (I'm assuming it was easier to just tap the screen 3 times than hit a camera button and wait) so I could pick the best one each time!

However, I didn't start using the phone til it was mostly light out, so I am a little concerned about the quality of pics in the dark at ToT. The character spots are well lit for safety, but still not great for photos.

I submitted my proof of time during registration, but I am now realizing that I forgot to include the year of my race (2013). Is there a way to find out of my proof of time was accepted? Or should I resubmit it? I just did the 5K this past weekend and didn't find out my corral until packet pickup - for a longer race would I find out corral placement earlier?

It can't hurt to resubmit it- I would.. just to be safe. Especially since they don't let you change corrals at the race anymore like they have in the past.

For the longer races you find out corral placement about 30 days prior.

I was actaully wondering if the 5K was just random placement since it's not timed & no proof was required. Anyone know that? I'm doing both the 10 miler & the 5K-

Since you submitted your proof of time when you registered, I'm not sure if you would get a confirmation.

However, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to re-submit. I submitted an updated proof of time on February 13th and got a confirmation email from both Active and runDisney on the 18th.

As far as finding out your corral placement in advance for longer races, I am not sure, but I also would be curious about that. :)

So for anyone else who booked a package already, can you see your tickets in MDE? I was told today (called to add dining to my package) that the tickets in the rundisney package will not be able to have any prebooked fastpass+ because they will not show up in MDE, you'll get them when you check in.

Can anyone see their discounted tickets in MDE?

This could have changed- so keep that in mind... (and probably has)

But back when I did Wine & Dine I was able to connect my RunDisney tickets to MDE & book fastpasses. However, at that time, RunDisney sent hard tickets and I could enter the code on the back into MDE. Not sure if they are still doing that?

I'm with Tinker above, I got paper tix for W&D and had to type the numbers into MDE. Part of the "discount" I guess....manual labor?!?! ha!

Thanks for all the input on resort proximities! Now to decide on a race......

The CM seemed to indicate that it would be paper tickets but that I wouldn't get them until check in. I'm thinking I will need to call back and verify this. I dont mind doing the work, I just really would like to be able to make advanced fp reservations.

I received mine via mail well in advanced of being able to make FP ressies.
I was checking everyday to see if I could...and finally gave up and waited a couple more weeks. I wanna say its something like a week or a month before you could make them. I guess a week makes more sense....
