Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

Btw, another tip for those who are going to the Disney Villains Bash immediately after the race: be sure to bring a change of clothes with you, some baby wipes and deodorant. The first year I did the ToT I didn't bring a change of clothes and with the Florida heat you sweat a lot. After the race my wife and I were waiting to go on rides and to my horror I discovered that the awful smell that was surrounding me constantly was ME! :faint:

Last year I brought a change of clothes and boy was I thankful that I did. You may have go use the changing tent - which if it's like in years past - will be right next to the Gertie the Dinosaur. As a warning - the tents are not air conditioned at all and feel like a sauna inside them - but well worth the time to get changed out of your sweaty running clothes and then get ready to enjoy the evening of fun.

Another add to the bring extra clothes. I use a runners bath (there are different brands but they are like wet ones) and just leave everything with my boyfriend.

With a dragon theme I wonder if the dragon from Festival of Fantasy will be on course. :)

That's probably more likely than what came to my mind later yesterday, when I remembered the flying dragon tests they had a couple years ago! But can you imagine?

If there is a flying dragon on this course I'm going to regret not doing it sooooo much this year. :)

The flying dragon has only flown once for New Fantasyland opening. I know she was sent back to Imagineering's California base the day after the event. I'm not sure if they would be able to have her on the course as she is like a single engine plane not a drone unless of course she's gotten a few updates in the past two years.

I was so sad I missed her flight because the show director and technical director for Magic Kingdom were my mentors for Entertainment show production that year so they kept dropping hints to us about NFL.

Flying out in the morning, I am trying to find out if I can bring my STICK massager on the flight. I plan to just have carry on, Never flown before and am not up to speed on the specific rules concerning things like this. Thanks all and see you all saturday

Getting super excited, have to get through one work day and we fly out tonight!! This time tomm will be getting ready for breakfast and expo!! Can't wait!!

This may have been asked before, but...

are there port-a-potties along the race course somewhere?
I'm finding I can only go about 4-5 miles before I need to take care of business - no matter how I hydrate.

Just need to be sure I have the bladder under control.

Yes, they're scattered all along the course, but I can vouch for some being placed right around the 5 mile mark the past 2 years! There are also real restrooms available in WWOS - I forget which building they're in, but they're just to the left of the course somewhere in there.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think rD's inclement weather email is about as clear as mud! (pun intended) So, here's the deal from a Floridian's perspective...

We've had a shocking amount of rain the past few weeks. Just a ton of it day after day after day. The storm sewers are full. The ground is saturated. There isn't anywhere for more rain to go. What that means for the 5K runners is most likely very wet, possibly muddy, fields. For 10 milers, it means medians and other grassy areas along the highway full of standing water, and possibly some standing water in the shoulders, too. The gravel road into WWOS is questionable: if it has enough gravel, or if WDW dumps some more on it, it might be fine. If there isn't enough gravel, it, too, may be wet and mucky.

Even if it does't rain at all Sat., the conditions on the fields and in grassy areas isn't going to improve much; the ground is just too wet to dry that quickly. Just be prepared for wet shoes and be careful!

Just to add to this...

I drive down Osceola Pkwy several times a week.
It's very wet in the grassy areas. There's ponds in some places. So if you're one that relies on the grass to get around ppl, you may be in for a shock.

I live about 8 miles from Disney, and two days ago, we got 5 inches in a 24 hour period. My rain gauge actually spilled over - since it only holds 5 inches.

So. Very. Wet.

Stay safe out there. :)
And V.. thanks for the port-a-potty info.

Recommendation: If you can make it another 5-10 minutes after getting your bag, go and find just about any restroom in Hollywood Studios. Air conditioned and can change in privacy.

Is it time for my annual imploring to STAY OUT OF THE GRASS!!!? ;)

100% agree with this! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thx a mint for the posts on merchandise, and weather and course conditions! :thumbsup2 I'll be sure to stay off the sides - might not have known as it'd be harder to see the water/pooling in the dark. And I will be sure to apply extra body glide as my feet tend to blister with wet socks/shoes, so course info was much appreciated!

I'm heading off in the wee hours tmrw, heading to DHS to catch Lou's meet up, then FP+ for TSM and Frozen sing a long. Watching Fantasmic! then booting it over to Epcot for hopefully one last whirl on Maelstrom.

Saturday will be expo, DTD, race & bash!
Sunday DTD & MNSSHP
staying til Thur evening so will have lots of time to enjoy many firsts on this trip!

I'll be a skeleton in Corral D with purple nails and a rhinestone Mickey head headband - I'm really not the villian type...LOL! If you spot me, pls say hi!

Been wonderful reading about everyone's training and plans on this thread - everyone so sharing and giving. Good luck with the ToT 10 Miler all!

cheers,
:)

That is true too. Might do that and try changing at the bathrooms by Star Tours.

Anyone doing breakfast at Kona Saturday? We're coming in earlier than expected tomorrow so planning on doing the expo tomorrow afternoon instead on Saturday morning. Opinions? I thought I saw that this was the breakfast spot of choice for some runners. We have been before, just not before a race!

If there is anything you absolutely wanted to but do the expo tomorrow.
