Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

HI,
Anybody know where I can find a buddy for this one? This is my first 5K, I'm turning 45, Lost a 100 pounds and plan on briskly walking. Trying hard not to talk myself out of this, I know I can do this, right! (?) Looking to encourage others as well as myself. I know I will be last, last but the main thing is I want to finish. Any advice.:cheer2:

So weird, I am a way faster runner than my DW and she's in B. Somehow I ended up in H. Oh well, just need to run faster then.

Nothing gets a thread going like the assignment of bib#'s I guess. Things have taken off.

I got my MagicBand today, anyone else?

Some people have reported they recieved an email from runDisney stating they are aware of the bib number and corral issues and we won't know our correct corrals until packet pick up.

Now I understand being upset if you aren't in the corral you are suppose to be in but does it really make that much difference? I consistantly run a 13 min mile but never had a race to submit since when I run at Disney I start for characters. I finally got a POT to match that but if I was in the last corral I wouldn't make a fit over it. I know I'm still capable of running 13 min miles and just make sure I'm at the front of the pack to make sure I have less people to bob and weave through.

This is Disney not Boston.

Welcome to the boards sab . I also am run/walking the 5k in addition to the 10 miler...kinda the unofficial double dare for this event i guess. So if you'd like a buddy to run/walk with I'm all for it.

Just curious , anyone else going for both medals?

Not for this one. An early 5k with a late race never works well for me.

Anyone planning on using a grocery delivery service while at the resort? I'm thinking of maybe using one to get some water , fruits, and kind bars for the room. What else should I get ? I'm kind of in a fog right now with nervous energy so would appreciate any suggestions.

I'm doing both as well the 5k with my wife and daughter then the 10miler by myself. I had to do the unofficial glass slipper because I missed registration I guess I just like the punishment.

I totally agree with you. I'm far from fast and the only reason I worry about proof of time is so I can start sooner be done sooner. My first few events I purposely started almost dead last just to get a feel for what goes on during these things.

I am also doing both 5k and 10miler, I guess when I registered I was thinking the 5k is a good warmup for the 10miler. Hopefully that stays true.

So weird, I am a way faster runner than my DW and she's in B. Somehow I ended up in H. Oh well, just need to run faster then.

Same thing happened to me. I submitted a faster race time than my wife and she's in coral B and I'm in coral C. She will just start in coral C with me, but it is odd this is happening.

I know it's not the end of the world, but it's just odd.

And yes, we got our magic bands in yesterday too! :cool1:

I have a question , I've always wore compression running tights on long runs here in los angeles. They help me immensely and keep fatigue and soreness under control. Would the humidity in florida make the benefit of my compression gear a hindrance since it seems I will be sweating like crazy. Hopefully some one has some thoughts on the matter.....We are almost there boys and girls! Keep calm and run on !
I ran ToT last year and wore my tall compression socks, as well as a dri-fit shirt under a cotton t-shirt (for my costume). It was a toasty, muggy night but I was fine. The only clothing item I would think twice about would be my Mickey ears...a wool cap? What was I thinking???

I'm not doing the 5K, but YES - you absolutely can do it!!! :cool1:

Now I understand being upset if you aren't in the corral you are suppose to be in but does it really make that much difference?
It can, yes. Because if you run a 8:00/mile pace and start with several thousand folks running/walking a 15:00-16:00/mile pace, you will spend a huge amount of time in frustration. And if you're not a particularly nice person, you may also endanger others by trying to run your pace anyway. I am not speedy enough to have had such a problem, but even at my 12-13mm pace, I've occasionally been stuck behind huge crowds of slower folks and can attest that it gets real old, real fast.

I'm a go with the flow kinda gal when it comes to Disney racing, but rD screwed up badly this time: many many more people than the norm were placed in inappropriate corrals. They do need to take steps to correct it for all of our comfort and safety. :thumbsup2

Quick question: Has anyone else tried to follow the links in the runDisney final race instructions email sent out yesterday? The igiftbag link doesn't load anything for me, just an error with the Tower of Terror logo and the New Balance virtual queue directed me to the Disneyland half marathon page. I am just wondering if I happen to the be the only one having issues or if someone else on here has encountered the same. Thanks!!

I guess I'm just super go with the flow. I also am a NYC runner so we are use to the bob and weave thanks to street running. Just last night I laughed on my run because the 8 street crossing I have to make and all the bobing and weaving let me factor in being stuck behind crowds and perfect my weaving though people. Still haven't perfect the junping over stuff yet though haha.

As someone else pointed out, it can make a difference. For me it's not the end of the world, but I'd like to start sooner so I don't have to bob and weave so much, but also because finishing even 15 min earlier means more time at the villains party - I don't know how late I'll be able to stay up!

It's interesting that Disney apparently seems to be aware of this? It's the first I've heard of it. I'll be interested to see if things actually change or not.

I understand Disney changing it if you submitted POT fire say corral D and you ended up in J but I've heard people complained to Disney over a corral or 2. Yes if you are suppose to be in A and did everything right but ended up in J you should email them but if you thought you would be in D but ended up in E is that really a big deal?

No, it probably isn't a big deal. It could be more of a pride thing, or a "I've worked hard to improve my time and don't get the benefits of that", even if the benefit doesn't really make a difference in the long run (good pun, right?! :thumbsup2). For me I'm in corral I, but I should've been in E or F. It's a difference of 3-4 corrals, so not the end of the world, but I would've liked the extra time so I'm not falling asleep by the end, lol.

For me, it looks like they got my ToT corral placement right based on the proof of time I submitted. But I seem to be the exception!

On the TeamRunDisney facebook page, someone posted a screenshot of an email reply from Disney regarding the screwy corral placements. Here is what runDisney said: "Thank you for contacting us. We had been aware prior to the waiver release that there had been an issue in the bib assignment process with a handful of bibs. It has been corrected. All three of you will have the correct assignment reflected on your bib based on the proof of time you had provided. We apologize for the confusion in communication, and we look forward to seeing you soon."

Anyway, I don't know if this "correction" applies to just this particular individual's group, or everyone. I'd say if you have a legitimate concern about your corral placement, contact runDisney and see what they say! I don't know any more about it ... I'm just relaying what I saw on facebook.

Regardless I am excited for the race weekend! :cheer2: I'm totally not ready for the running part yet (I'm behind on my training for this AND for the goofy... yikes) but I have every other aspect of my Disney trip planned! :sunny:
