Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

Booking our Oct. trip tomorrow so I have to make the decision on if I want to go to definitely run the race or go later in the month. So, my question is for anyone who has had family attend the after-party, did they enjoy it? Was it worth the $55? It would be my DH and two DD 8 and 11. I am torn. My oldest's favorite ride is Tower of Terror but my DH and younger DD don't ride any thrill rides at all.

I ran TOT while my sister took my older kids to the party. they had a great time. DS rode RNR several times. the kids did Star Tours a few times. DD and I did TOT. they did TSMM without me and with me. we stayed until a little after 3 am. DS could've stayed until 4, but I was DONE!!

that trip was a shorter one and the party was our only HS time. for us, it was worth it.

I've done three runDisney events and this one is my favorite. even though the course is mostly on Osceola Parkway, they had a lot of entertainment (much better than the highway stretches of the 10k and the WDW 1/2).

I wish they would've had more characters at the party. but we were happy to meet Shan Yu, Cruella, Darth and the Evil Queen. we saw Frollo walking to break and I never did figure out where he was meeting. Gaston was also out, but we'd already met him at MK (he is hilarious and definitely worth meeting!). the Tremaines were greeting in rotation with the Evil Queen. they were also dancing near the DJ--hilarious.

How quick did this sell out? I want to go. But won't find out if I can get off for a few weeks more. Early march will it still be avail?

If your 11yr old will be 12 by then why don't they run TOT with you? Although the 1mile is for age 13yrs and younger it is mostly much younger kids from what we've seen. The 5km is fun to do as a family, but hard to actually "run" in do to crowds.

Unfortunately she is physically unable to do a race like this. She is a cancer survivor and as such has physical limitations. Also, we can't fly in to FL till Sat morning so the 5k and kids runs are out this time for us.

It was a good suggestion though and I know if she could do it physically she would love it!

Hi everyone! :wave2: I'm new to running and decided TOT is going to be my first race (well, maybe a few smaller local ones before hand lol). I started running last September, but took a few weeks off after the holidays. I'm ready to start back up again.

I'll be running the 10 mile alone, but my DD will be 14 and I'm pretty sure she wants to do the 5k with me.

I have a question for everyone. Other than running, what does everyone else do to get in shape for the race? My oldest DD goes to the gym, and suggested I go with her, but I'm not sure what to do there. I would love to hear some suggestions.

Pretty much anything that is cardio, or something to increase endurance. I guess strength training, too, but I wouldn't even begin to know what specific exercises would be beneficial to a runner.

I don't belong to a gym, but I do strength training workouts at home. I love DVDs by Jari Love. The only equipment you need are some handweights (start with a set of 3 lb, 5 lb, and 8 lb) and a step--though she also shows modified versions without the step if you don't have one.

If you don't want to use DVDs, I would suggest doing squats and lunges. One variation on lunges that I really like is to put one leg up on a bench or chair http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQUMw4JgMN0 (this is not my video, I just found it by googling)

ToT is actually on my birthday this year. I am thinking of "asking" for a trip down to do it as my (huge!!) present. I've done princess solo before and don't have any issue going by myself. But I wonder if a night race and the party after would be all that great for a solo runner. I mean, how many times can I ride RnRC by myself?

That being said, some alone time on my birthday sounds fabulous ;)

Don't worry, there will be plenty of other "solo runners" there. I'm sure we'll set a meet-up time when it gets closer to race time. :)

TOT is on my birthday too! I always go to WDW for my birthday (usually solo) but my friends might be coming down to run the race with me!

cool! birthday buddy!!!

i am thinking of asking some girlfriends to come with me. it could be fun! but then again i'm starting to really like the idea of going solo... :)

I booked our family vacation and were staying at POP during the TOT 10-miler. Am I still eligible for room discount by booking through Disney, and also will Disney be offering discount park tickets? We currently have a package. Thank you!

rD does offer slight discounts. we ended up booking directly through WDW last year because their offers were better than rD's.

I'm curious to know if anyone remembers how quick this race fills up. I was surprised that some of the DL races seem to fill within minutes. Do I have to be on the computer when registration opens to get in this one?

i did not register right away last year. however, with the way rD races have been selling lately, who knows what will happen!

this race is a smaller one (last year had 11,000 or so).

Also does anyone know if they had the Disney themed NB shoes at the TOT expo last year. Thought about them at the Marathon weekend expo and now wish I had bought a pair. Thanks!

Jennifer

Those were just introduced at this years marathon weekend.

Does anyone know if DVC members will get early registration privileges for the ToT 10-miler? That was the case for the DL half this year?

I was pretty much a solo runner this year. DH had planned to run with me, but due to work requirements he wasn't able to train for the race. He still came down to Disney with me, but stayed in the room while I ran the race. I had a great time chatting with people in my corral, and rode ToT (my favorite attraction in all of WDW) by myself before heading back to the room. You'll have a great time!

My husband and I plan on running this race this year. It will be our 10 year anniversary so a mile per year married. We recently did a 15K(9.3 miles) and the 10 mile seems like a good distance for us. I never got the miserable feeling of I might not finish. I got that way at mile 11 when we did the Princess half 2012 and although we finished, the last 2 miles were not fun.
