Towel Usage?

Trying to figure out why not getting fresh towels every day at DVC is a problem for people - maybe we're just slobs?

So thought I'd post a poll to see how people use their towels at home and at DVC.

What we tend to do is use the same towel at home for a while (maybe a week to a week an a half) then replace them.

When we're at DVC, we tend shower in the evening, then hang the towels up to dry. If they're still damp in the morning, we'll put them into the dryer as we leave for the parks so we'll have dry towels for our evening shower.

We all use fresh towels everyday here!! That is 5 towels per day!! A habit I got from my parents..........

I really don't mind using a towel 2 times while at OKW but I usually throw them in the wash before we head out for the day!!!

Jill:

Thank you for posting this poll! I was tempted to do the same thing myself!

I love the results so far! It really seems that most people don't mind not getting fresh towels every day.

The way I look at it, is that if I had rented a vacation house at the beach or something like that, not only would I not have daily housekeeping and clean towels, but I likely would have had to bring all my own linens! We may have had to give up daily towel service with DVC (as opposed to a "regular" Disney resort), but I really think we come out with SO much more!!!

Don't forget you always have the option to get full housekeeping or new towels, you just have to pay for it. I look at it this way-when you are staying in a regular WDW resort, the cost of maid service is built into your room rate, you don't have a choice. At DVC, you have the choice to pay extra or save the money.

Not only do we not use fresh towels every day while at home, but when we are on vacation if we have the option to hang up our towels to dry rather than getting new towels every day, we opt to hang our towels to dry. This uses less soap, water and energy and is the more "environmentally friendly" choice.

I must admit, I asked a few of my friends if they wash towels every day after reading that thread thinking that I must be this dirty pig and never knew it, but no one else I know washes towels every day either.

I have stayed at hotels where they have a little card in the bathroom about water conservation, it says if you want new towels, place them on the floor, but if not simply hang them up.

It seems to me to be VERY wasteful to wash a towel daily that you just used to dry your clean body:D

We never reuse our towels. Just a family habit.

Been to DVC twice, DW and I at BWV for a short stay in a studio then a larger crew 11 in a 2 bd and studio at BCV. Everyone used new towels, washed every day and if needed we borrowed from the pool area. We just returned the borrowed towels when we went back to the pool area.
This was not a problem, towels, trash etc.

Everyone new and understood about the Towel and Trash Policy so when we needed towels or there was a bag of trash even the kids would take them out on their way.

I don't mind throwing our towels in the wash while on vacation. It really something very simple to do.

As for trash and towel, I could do away with it all together. We have a 2 year old who is just recently out of diapers. Our garbage is ALWAYS emptied on a daily basis. Towels are washed on an as needed basis. For us, it's almost a hassel to have the trash and towel because it seems like they want to do it when we're in the room. How many others agree??

Except for staying in a studio, I don't mind washing the towels & taking out my trash. At OKW we almost always have a room where the trash room is betwen us & our car. It is no big deal to open the trash room door & throw in the trash. Having a washer & dryer in the unit is a plus.

Your good pat-rick, we do the same (borrow from the pool area) but leave them in the unit at the end of our stay as mousekeeping must know they are pool towels.

I use 1 towel for my hair 1 for my body and each time I shower I'll use the one I had used previously on my hair for my body taking a fresh towel for my hair.

Well my problem is it's a sanitary thing for me. I have a very hard problem reusing towels. I know my body is clean but still - it's not THAT clean!!!! Especially at a certain time of the month. So when we bought into DVC I had a very hard time with this. And we ALWAYS stay in a studio and probably always will. YOU DON'T HAVE WASHER AND DRYERS IN THE STUDIO!!! Also, we don't usually have time to do laundry nor do we plan on it (well dh doesn't plan on it). If I do laundry I have to skip something to get it done.

To me it's just gross...for others it's not and that's fine. DH uses the same towel the whole week. And I don't wash towels everyday at home - I have enough to last the whole week. He also has not paid for extra towels but I like the idea about getting them from the pool area - I'll have to remember that I guess.

That would fall under the category of more than I needed to know, or think about at least :earseek: :).

I must be a slob too, JillU-DVC - and proud of it. :D Life's too short to stuff a mushroom, and it's too short to wash towels everyday.

As another poster also mentioned, we're doing a little bit for the environment by not washing towels everyday.

Thank goodness, I'm not the only person who lets towels dry and uses them again! From previos threads I was begining to think I had filthy habits or something!:jester: :jester:

So does this mean people are taking clean pool towels because they don't want to pay for extra towels from mousekeeping?

We usually have a studio so the washing machine convenience is not there. I carry clothes pins with us and hang our towels up to dry on the line in the tub. Since there are just 2 of us that brings us to T&T day with 2 days on each since there are 4/studio.

On our recent trip to Vero Beach we had a 2 BR with 6 people, we washed our towels every other day. They were washed early in the morning and put in the dryer before we headed out for the day. However, my DW called housekeeping and they brought us extra towels to start out with. At home our towels are changed twice a week.

Yup. That's exactly what happens. And it could mean that at some point in the future DVC will have to go to a towel check-out system at the pools. :(

(Although a cabana boy here or there might not be a bad addition...;) )

You take a shower, your clean. Right?? You use a towel to wipe a clean body, so in thought all you did is wipe clean water. Does that mean that the towel is still clean?

I have no problem not getting a clean towels ever day. And from what I see in the poll, neither do the rest.

We have stayed in OKW villas and I have no problem whatsoever with washing towels in our unit. Part of our next visit will be in a studio at OKW. (Previously I have stayed in a studio at OKW, but not through DVC.) To be perfectly honest, I am NOT thrilled at the thought of only having, in essence, a one-day supply of towels. So we are supposed to go spend the time to wash and dry a load of towels EACH DAY?! That is just goofy. I expect we will bring at least one other set of towels, so we won't have to spend a couple of hours at the laundry area to wash part of a load

It would make more sense to have at least enough bath towels provided to get through two days. I can envision literally washing four towels only on some days. Think about the cost of detergent, electricity and water to run a load in the wash to just get four more towels. Talk about wasteful.
